Softer Ride is an all time fave of mine. Ever since the Paper Plane single. I adore it. I remember they played it live for the first time maybe about 20 years ago (or thereabouts). I never knew it was coming and I nearly did! If I recall correctly , it reappeared in 95 along with a full length Wanderer, Backwater and Come Rock With Me/Rocking On. That’s what the band don’t get anymore...the don’t realise that a few changes enhance the gig going experience for those most loyal following whilst the more casual fan still gets their RAOTW etc It’s a win-win Anyway, I couldn’t believe how loud it was when Jeff’s drums came crashing in. Great stuff

I thought it was going to be Tongue Tied at first so I was just going put "nah, thanks anyway" Luckily I read it properly. Good choice You're so predictable, Billy Hold Me is a good one, @inna, but I think Alright is even better. They should've played one of these live instead of Gravy Train ! Maybe that's the reason why Rick didn't much like the album - because he didn't get to perform one of his own songs ? Hold Me was originally going to be the album’s opening track , according to Pip in FTMO magazine

It must have been gone by the time it got to Glasgow. The only time I've ever seen that live was on a YouTube video from (I think) Russia. But I agree, Cammy. A little tweak here and there, especially earlier in the set before the peasants get their hits would probably please us all. Can I say peasants? Probably not. It's probably peasantist. Or is it populist? Good job I don't have a Twitter account. I'd never get a high profile position

I've been listening to as near as no music over the last weeks, but this has been going round in my head a few times: cammythemortonfan - Interesting, but I dare say BOTE is the better track to open an album. Do you remember why they changed the order ? mortified - It's elitist and that's about as bad as racist (which usually is nationalist).

But - and at the risk of being contentious - is there an element of that in wanting to hear rarer tracks played live rather than the hits? Just musing. A Year. Nice choice by the way

Edit- 95 Glasgow from set list FM- it tallies with my recollection www.setlist.fm/setlist/status-quo/1995/secc-glasgow-scotland-3bd710f4.html

Cheers, Cammy. I have no recollection of that whatsoever! And I never used to drink before a gig in those days! Maybe I should have I normally have a half decent memory for these things but its obviously failed me this time. Having said that, I did miss Glasgow one year in the 90's because of the flu; proper flu that is. The real debilitating version. But I thought it was a couple of years before that. Hmm, it's annoying me now. I should remember that being played. Bvgger. I'll chin sis and see if she remembers although she's normally hopeless and relies on me.

The only reason it stood out for me was that in the early to mid nineties I only did one gig a year , at Glasgow. I hadn’t expected it ( pre internet set list days !!) plus back then they had a habit of shaking things up . Plus....I’ll never forget Jeff’s drumming when it kicked in. Blimey it was LOUD !!!!

I thought I'd missed the Just For The Record tour (the book) but maybe I'm wrong. Not that important. It's just that they played two songs only that once and I've somehow obliterated it from my mind! Was the support act a hypnotist by any chance?

I remember sis telling me they did Forty Five Hundred Times, which they hadn't done for a few years, and was gutted that I'd missed it. I've obviously just forgotten Come Rock With Me/Rockin' On.
Oh well....

It was the first time I’d heard Backwatwr live too. I hadn’t been expecting it with Rick singing

That's three songs in a row I like, great choices. Gotta say I did enjoy Gloria as part of the jam and wouldn't even have minded if it had been included in the FF set. It probably wouldn't really have fitted in though. Frozen Hero is my favourite from QPQ. It's got so much energy and drive, love it- Would be wonderful if it was considered for that brand new Quo set we all hope for for 2019. I love both, the RAOTW and RTYD album, but prefer the original (remixed) version of CGYM.
Haven't added a tune for sometime, so for today it's one of my absolute favourites from Rick:

I Stumbled across this and thought it would be something a bit different. 4
Have never heard it live before, seems like it got a good reaction.

Going for a drink after work tonight and the pub has updated it's jukebox.
Until recently, they didn't have that many Quo tracks but that's changed now.
This is on it and I shall definitely be selecting this one once or twice tonight.

Not sure what was said in the previous discussion....but Come Rock with Me / Rockin' On were played on the 1995 UK Don't Stop Tour (although the album wasn't released until Feb 96).
If you're not sure of the setlist or what year something was, Setlist FM is one place to look them up online....it spoils the debate though!!

Haven't looked into this thread for a while .. This morning I feel like this: One of three songs I'm not wildly enthusiastic about from the album funnily enough. But it is different. That's always to be admired. And Matt's drumming is superb.
