Test worked. So this is my song of the day. Really like this one So do I ! I don't much like the JS album, but this is one of Alan's very best When I bought the Back2Back CDs to replace the vinyl I didn't check the content, as I simply assumed if it says JS, it'll contain JS .. all of it. Big Mistake !

I thought it was going to be Tongue Tied at first so I was just going put "nah, thanks anyway" Luckily I read it properly. Good choice You're so predictable, Billy Hold Me is a good one, @inna , but I think Alright is even better. They should've played one of these live instead of Gravy Train ! Maybe that's the reason why Rick didn't much like the album - because he didn't get to perform one of his own songs ? I do like Gravy Train but it maybe wasn't the ideal choice to put in the set. Alright would have worked really well, I agree. And do not get me started on Bad News. Had it been put in the set, it would have become a classic staple. Just would, right?

Another good song from RTYD. Hard to believe they went from this to Thirsty Work.
Think it was a good tour too with quite a varied set.
What do you read into the lyric?

RTYD had some great songs on it and the sound is superb - still one of my favourite Quo albums. One Man Band is a good one smokie I don't think the lyrics have anything to do with the band. I suspect they're about the shambles his private life was in at the time. Rick was always on the lookout for the perfect love, but managed to blow every relationship rather sooner than later and around the time had done just that again. For today I add I know some didn't like it or were surprised it was chosen as a single by the BBC, but I loved how it came thundering in on the radio and it still is among my favourite songs from the album.

snakelady,
My initial thoughts regarding the lyrics were the same as yours.
I just assumed it was about relationships away from the band and Rick's frustrations with them.
Then someone said to me that it was about his relationship with Francis and his annoyance with that.
Doesn't he say in the interview after the Dublin FF concert that he'd love to do more with the FF but Francis doesn't want to. He then says something about "what about what I want".
So, now I'm not sure what One Man Band is about!
Perhaps it isn't about him and Francis as that might have been too confrontational and likely to cause bad blood between them.

Perhaps it isn't about him and Francis as that might have been too confrontational and likely to cause bad blood between them. One Man Band was over two decades before the FF reunion. Just a few years prior to the album he had left Alan and convinced Francis to continue with him (and Rhino, Jeff and Andy). Plus around the time of RTYD they had just found David Walker and were all happy he made the money for them come rolling in again. So there definitely was nothing wrong for Rick with the band at the time. Concerning that recent interview and Rick's moaning about not getting what he wanted (more FF ?) - Nobody forced him to return to the current band. Francis stopped with FF and returned to the then current line-up because it was what he wanted. Rick could've either confronted Francis and tried to get some compromise or he could've left that line-up altogether and staid with PLC Quo full time. He did neither - he went to where more money was made. Although, I don't think it was merely about the money for Rick. We know he was the grass always greener over there type. When with the current band he'd have longed for the wilder FF and when with them be complained about Alan's lack of punctuality a la Francis mark 2. And that interview was right after what must've been an elating gig. A few hours later, he probably saw things differently - or he wouldn't have stayed IMO.

I meant that perhaps Rick felt that he wasn't being listened to by Francis even back in the 90s and he had felt like that for a while, playing second fiddle.
And it was a feeling that was to continue for some time, even up to the FF reunions but it was a clumsy example that I gave.

Aquostic Pictures from BBC1's the One Show. What can I say - POMM is great, like so many others from A1 Wanted to remind me that our acoustic tour was cancelled ? Today would've been the last gig .. really hope Francis is recovering well. And I hope they do play at least one more acoustic gig with the Barcelona set list to film and record it for posterity.

A wee story.
That BBC broadcast on The One Show was seen by a colleague of mine at work. A bloke I'd known for over 30 years. He'd never seen Quo and wasn't a fan. However, he asked me about this acoustic 'project' and I told him. He bought the album on the strength of that one broadcast. And he loved it!
So it just goes to show; we have a pop at these evening light entertainment programmes - well I do - but they obviously can have the desired effect. That album didn't sell thousands through word of mouth alone.

There's a few Aquostic versions that I prefer over the original and this is definitely one of them.
I wouldn't say that my Dad is a convert but he caught some of the Roundhouse via the Red Button and he actually downloaded the whole concert and kept it, and watch it several times before deleting it. It was "really good" and believe me, that's two words that I thought I'd never hear from him when talking about Quo.

Your little stories show that Aquostic is not doomed completely. It needs handling sensibly and it won't work as the sole type of gig, but it does work - in small doses and with the ticket prices not skyrocketing to double the price or beyond even compared to the standard gigs. I for one hope there will be more - same as I hope for an electric album of new material and not necessarily all out rock. I'd prefer diverse in ISOTFC style.

The success of the first Aquostic project seemed to encourage those at the helm to go mad and exploit it till it inevitably ran dry. A bit like they did with the covers albums. But there is probably still some mileage in it. Maybe one-off gigs every so often. Once a year possibly. But probably not another album. As for 'electric', to me, all Quo albums are quite diverse. The only albums that come close to being "all out rock" are probably Heavy Traffic and Quid Pro Quo and even those have their quieter moments.

If there was a thumb down option I'd choose it. I remember standing open mouthed watching this in Cardiff hoping I'd wake up any minute.

It's quite entertaining from afar - but I'd not want to hear it at a Quo gig either. Why didn't they simply play It's Christmas Time when they felt the urgent need to do something seasonal ??

For Quo fans this day will have a double meaning from now on: It is Christmas and we are going to listen to Christmas songs, same as always, but it's the day to remember Rick as well.

I know it is the season of goodwill etc but that's as bad as I remember it. Whosever idea that was, I think it was a bad one.
Nothing against Kim or Roy but I just think that this isn't particularly good.

Probably blanked it Yeah, we can be pretty miserable, us Quo fans. As soon as they hit the 'entertainment' button we scuttle off back down our hobbit holes to that dark place they call the 70's
