The Manchester United Singles, 'Come On You Reds' and 'We're Gonna Do It Again' have been removed from the final Deluxe Release of Thirsty Work. Last track on Disc 2 is now the Live Version of Restless from the Royal Albert Hall, 30th March 1994 gig Which is strangely enough credited as Wembley Arena on the packaging. I'd actually like that Royal Albert Hall gig to be included in full on Live Alive Quo, as it has both One Man Band and Rock Til You Drop. Either that or Timra 1996, which was heard and approved by the band. It's really irritating that is credited as Wembley Arena because lord knows how many times I wrote dates // venues etc in every e-mail I sent to Universal. It's correctly listed on promotional copies, but not on the actual digipak release... Not Universals fault I know, but the guy that did the artwork.

phonoline Recently come to find out that there are a few bits from a February 1991 session at Bray Studios that still exist along with another unreleased track. Would've actually been great additions for Disc 2 which is very bare bones, but it's too late now Argh! Which is strangely enough credited as Wembley Arena on the packaging. Steve told me that there was so much back and forth, things like that happened. I just wish I'd seen the artwork right before it went into printing, as I think I would've caught all those mistakes (e.g. Anniversary Waltz part X) ....Oh, I forgot to plug my new blog, which covers all three deluxes from my perspective! jesters-jetsetters.blogspot.comEnjoy!

Just read those... thank you for the mentions I've actually spent the past 2 weeks hunting down the Channel 4 RTYD docs and I'm receiving copies at some point to review. I'm hoping to get either or both of them released at some point in a release I'm planning. Will drop you a message once my proposal / excel doc is done. Cheers

With this, there's plenty known unreleased stuff for a special "rarities" release.

frozenhero I'd actually love to know why Address Book [Abracadigance, 10th April 1990] performance was removed... if it was due to licensing then they could have quickly had it sorted, as I emailed itv recently about something and mentioned it. They were more than happy to let them use it, could have even used a proper master source for it, but I said that it was too late with the release due this Friday. sqcollector quite a bit from '83 onwards of unreleased material.

Actually, I don't know why it was removed! The test disc still had it. But it wasn't the biggest loss. It sort of spoiled the flow of the disc IMO. I think the underlying problem with this, as well as RTYD, was my tracklists being accepted/cleared before sorting out all the kinks, and before there was the chance to search for unreleased material (of which I obviously didn't have any knowledge). I should've gotten you on board much earlier, I guess, so we could've worked on the tracklists together and improved them before submitting them (at least it worked in the case of RTYD disc 3).

Actually, the new posts in this thread have reminded me of the release of these deluxe editions. It had sort of escaped my mind for a bit

I think that there are certain post 1985 songs which were played live when the album came out which are strong enough to have been brought back into the set on rotation. Songs like The Power of Rock, One Man Band, Gotta Get Up and Go and a few others. Instead of leaving CUOY, TO and BOTE in for over 15 years, they could have rotated 10 newer songs just like they do with some of the older songs such as Softer Ride, HYB and DWMT. I was disappointed when OMB was dropped, but then I wouldn't have wanted it to stay in the set for 25 years either!

I think Timra was a Swedish gig and, although I'm not 100% sure, it may have included one of the very few live versions of Come Rock With Me/Rockin' On. But someone else can confirm if I'm wrong.
Yeah, the Rock 'til You Drop tour (as opposed to the event) had a cracking set list with at least 5 songs from the album in it.

Timra Isstadion, 9th November 1996 [Can't Stop Tour] - Radio Broadcast Apparently a copy was sent to the band at the time and they loved it.

These CD's arrived on Friday. Quite a bit late. So much so, I thought they weren't going to arrive at all. Delivered by a young man with a rasping cough and no gloves or any protective gear whatsoever I don't think he's seen the news I'd have wiped the Thirsty Work album but I think that one is sanitised enough. Arf arf…. I theng you

I had a quick listen to Thirsty Work and Rock 'til You Drop and will hit Perfect Remedy at some point. Not with a hammer, of course, although back in 1989....

That's me had a listen to all 3 CD's. Selected tracks that is. Rock 'til You Drop is familiar enough to me already. I thought I'd do a re-appraisal of Thirsty Work and listen to it more or less in full. I thought to myself, my tastes have changed - increased if I'm honest - since 1994, so let's give it another fair crack of the whip. Goin' Nowhere is a track I've always liked and it sounds terrific on this CD. Very clear to this untrained ear. The first single follows and it's OK I suppose but after that I'm afraid it's a steep downward curve. Like falling off a cliff downward There are highlights here and there; Soft In The Head and Rude Awakening Time stick out like big red boils on an otherwise alabaster derrière but most of it is definitely not for me. And I don't think it was for anyone else in the mid 90's either. Britpop brought back some energy and guitars so Quo went for synths and lukewarm melodies. This album was so out of touch with the world - and, more importantly, Quo fans - that it was on a desert island all on its own. The extra tracks from the singles? None of them were stand-outs then and they still aren't. Apart from Beautiful being close to the most dreadful dirge they ever recorded. Tommy part deux. It is not insignificant that, Restless apart, the live tracks in the set were the three songs I first mentioned. Maybe the band knew themselves. But it was good to hear those songs live. A rare treat. The same with Perfect Remedy. I immersed myself in the NEC version of In My Chair coz I haven't heard it in ages and I always had a soft spot for Blondes Don't Lie. It's got a nice groove but would not have fitted nicely with the rest of this album! I delved into the live stuff on Rock 'til You Drop and it was great to hear Let's Work Together. The first time I'd heard that since September 1991 on the day in question! Heavy Daze and Better Times would have graced any Quo album from any era. I think I've enjoyed listening to these deluxe editions more than any others apart from Rockin' All Over The World (for obvious reasons). It is really good to get some live stuff that isn't the usual fare. Respect to all involved. But we deserve stuff like this. Quo fans are a patient bunch because we've tended to get very little that isn't aimed at the masses.
