Great review ! As a fan I do enjoy reading positive reviews, even if it's just one guy posting his opinion. The first paragraph made me smile .. not sure there's a single Quo tune from 86 on on yt that hasn't been put down by that particular clientele. Isn't it great, the excitement and anticipation building up before release. Interesting his favourite song is not one that's been made public so far. I want my album !

This is mainly for geeks like me, although I keep saying that compression levels tend to influence people's enjoyment of music on a subconscious level (e.g. QPQ often being called 'noisy', which is just as much down to the mix/mastering as the music itself - although I suppose the vinyl does not have this issue). Anyway to the point, I ran the song "Backbone" from the Classic Rock sampler CD through the DR meter and this is what came out: That's really good for a modern rock production, and it confirms what I heard: rocky yet crankable - just like in the old days! The DR is very similar to, say, Andy Pearce's remaster of "Piledriver" from the 2014 deluxe edition, and that's not a bad comparison at all. It's also noteworthy that these magazine samplers tend to get some extra mastering to have everything on a similar level, so it's possible the actual album version is even a bit more dynamic. All of this means we're looking at the least compressed new Quo studio CD since 2002, maybe even since 1996! So whatever complaints there may be about the album (and I already feel it could have done with a bit more reverb), the loudness wars thankfully are not among them. I'm really relieved about that.

It just looks/sounds as if the mastering is finally at a good point. Which I wouldn't say about most of Quo's 2000s output, at least on CD.

Again, seriously tempting. But I listened to 'samples' a couple of weeks back - just the once - and I've refrained ever since. Not sure why. I reckon it's that fine balance between being possibly disappointed with the little I've heard or greatly anticipating the album because it sounds superb. At the moment, I'm leaning towards the former but I also know that these little samples can give you a false picture either way. I guess that makes it a risk even putting them up on the website. Just as many could say "nah, not for me" as "I like the sound of this". Not sure when the album(s) will arrive on the doorstep. Friday would be good. I've never pre-ordered a Quo album before so this is a new experience for me

Just had a quick look at the official site for this. Well, one of them; the TM Stores site. Several 'bundles' are sold out as is the red vinyl album. In fact, any bundle that had the red vinyl in it is sold out. Hopefully my pre-order is safely in someone's 'in' basket ready to be processed Or there will be hell to pay

2 .. why is it so important the vinyl is red ? Black with a spaceship label is what it should be.

It's time to have a quick listen to the samples again. All done I've only listened to the first track this week. And I think it sounds pretty good, although there is a chord change in there that throws me! Anticipation is building. Mind you, so is this cold that I seem to be getting. Bl00dy nuisance

I also have the additional obstacle that I don't own a radio! Although I dare say you can get it through your Sky Q box. What did they play? Rockin' to the disappointment of thousands?

From what I've heard so far (Liberty Lane, Backbone, Cut Me Some Slack, Better Take Care, and now I Wanna Run Away With You) I'm confident that I will like the album more/it will sound more like Status Quo 'should' sound, than Perfect Remedy, Ain't Complaining, Thirsty Work and Bula Quo (which is always my worry). As long as it is in the mix with the other albums since Rock Til You Drop in terms of how much I like it, I can live with that.
I am a little bit anxious that (like Quid Pro Quo) we've already been fed the 'better' songs from the album, and the others will be a slight disappointment. But that's life, and good marketing. In the long run I really like QPQ, even though I'd already heard the better (my favourite) half of the songs before it was released.
Still excited to sit down and discover the other half of the album on Friday though!

I actually stopped playing Backbone and Liberty Lane a couple of weeks ago because I don't want to get bored with them; or, shall we say, over familiar I want to listen to the album all the way through when I get it without skipping the tracks I've already heard too often. We all have our little foibles and ways of dealing with these things Mind you, I've taken that approach since the release of Hello! when, by the day it came out, I'd played Caroline till the vinyl was almost see-through. Ditto with Softer Ride as the B-Side to Paper Plane and had 'cassette taped' Roll Over Lay Down off the radio about a fortnight before. I only had 5 songs to hear for the first time! Worth it though

I'm not too keen on the album, personally... the majority of the songs have no dynamics and just plod along at the same level the whole way through.
There's just no life in the album. I feel like the last time a Quo album had proper energy to it was the Quid Pro Quo album.
Waiting For A Woman is a snooze fest, same goes for Better Take Care. Falling Off The World I'm not keen on.
Another annoying thing that is common throughout the album is repetitiveness. Riffs that are constantly played throughout the songs... One of the main reasons I can't stand the title track.
Liberty Lane, to me, is the best track on the album... followed by Cut Me Some Slack.
IMO, due to the lack of energy on the album, it seems it was done just for the sake of them being able to say "we can still make albums / write songs etc..".
