I'm going to be in Florida next week, to Orlando on Tuesday then driving for an hour to Melbourne on the east coast. A Pink Floyd tribue band called The Machine will be playing there on the same day, so if I'm up to it I may go along. Did I ever mention I'm going to see Joe Bonamassa in Melbourne?

More Beethoven this Friday (after all it's a 'Beethoven year'): Two sonatas - Kreutzer and Spring - performed by piano and cello.
Edit - it were actually three sonatas, else it would've been a bit short. Brilliant renditions too !

Roll over and tell Tchaikovsky the news I don't mind a bit of old Ludvig v. I've got Symphonies 1 to 9 (Daniel Barenboim & Staatskapelle Berlin) which looks like a 2000 recording. Could be older though and just when the recording was released. Is it an anniversary this year of some sort? Must send him a card But, no; no gigs on the horizon.

Gig report Joe Bonnamassa 16 Feb 2020 Melbourne, Florida.
He ROCKS! 130 minutes and no chatter between songs (FR take note).
More to follow later in the week. Probably Tuesday when I get back to Blighty.

Probably Tuesday when I get back to Blighty. 130 mins. is great ! Quo are down to maybe 75mins., especially since they didn't play an encore last year. I don't mind FR's banter either, rather the opposite, and it's merely 2-3 times per gig anyway.

Gig report Joe Bonnamassa 16 Feb 2020 Melbourne, Florida.
I went to see my brother who lives there and when choosing the date, a number of factors such as air fare and accomodation prices were considered. Just before booking, I took a look to see who'd be on anywhere in the vicinity and WOW! Joe Bonamassa is playing two miles from where I'm staying AND in the week I'm going to be there! Given that venues such as Miami (south) and Tampa (west) are three hours away, Gainsville (Tom Petty's hometown) over two hours north, that was quite a result! (Get the ticket first, worry about the Royal Assent later!)
JB played 130 minutes including encore. He stopped only twice to speak to us mere mortals: once at the penultimate song of the set to introduce the band and the second time was during the encore to introduce the final song of the evening, written by Will Jennings ("Tears in Heaven", "My Heart Will Go On"...). I was quite pleased as it meant we could get more songs in.
He also changed his guitar after every song and each one was different as far as I could tell.
Set list: Intro: Theme from On Her Majesty's Secret Service 1. Tiger in Your Tank 2. Evil Mama 3. Just Cos You Can Don't Mean You Should 4. King Bee Shakedown 5. If Heartaches Were Nickles 6. Don't You Lie to Me 7. Blues of Desperation 8. Conversation With Alice 9. Sloe Gin 10. Well, Well 11. I Can't Quit You, Babe 12. Little Girl 13. Just Got Paid
Encore 14. Woke Up Dreaming 15. Mountain Time
Forthcoming gigs: 23 Apr - Francis Rossi @ Stevenage Gordon Craig Theatre 9 Jun - Queen and Adam Lambert @ Wembley Arena

To be honest, Ian Crichton and Steve Hackett both don't use a lot of different guitars at their gigs, and I think both could wipe the floor with Joe B. But glad you enjoyed it. I guess I'm not so much against him as against the people who think blues starts and ends with him - I know better, I've been listening to blues before Joe released his first album...

At the moment I have Saxon at Hammersmith Odeon on the 28th of this month, it is a rescheduled show from last year that I am hoping won't be cancelled again due to people drinking too much corona.

Ground zero I was half thinking of going to see Rhino's Revenge at the Half Moon in Putney in August but better just let that lie for now. Everything is a bit up in the air really.
