Tracklisting for Back to Back and In The Army Now deluxe editions look, to me, a bit more interesting than for previous albums. For a start no pretty much unlistenable live gig bootleg to pad them out. Few songs on Back to Back that I haven’t heard before, suspect they are the Rossi / Frost tracks from their shelved album. Suspect I won’t be bowled over by them, but will be nice to hear and officially own. I wonder if the version of Going Down Town Tonight will feature the guitar solo or not, my previous version of BTB just repeats the album track. I believe later versions of that CD fixed this, but I wouldn’t put it passed them to make the same mistake again. The track that sticks out for me on the Army bonus CD is, Rock & Roll Floorboards, I’ve not come across that before – a Rick solo album tune? UK amazon doesn’t have a tracklist, but the Spanish version does. Rock & Roll Floorboards is a Rick tune, but not solo - it was the b-side of the cancelled "Naughty Girl" single. Obviously bootlegged before, but this is its first CD release! Same goes for a few of the remixes.
Back to Back should have had more tracks. I don't know what happened there. It's an acceptable compromise, but not ideal. ITAN is closer to my original suggestions, apart from the missing live version of "Save Me" (but then they played that only a handful of times) and the title track (which we have in numerous later versions, so no big loss).
1. The Wanderer 2. Going Down Town Tonight (single rerecording) 3. I Wonder Why (Quo version) 4. Ol' Rag Blues (extended) 5. A Mess Of Blues (extended) 6. Cadillac Ranch 7. Ol' Rag Blues (Lancaster vocals) 8. Modern Romance (I Want To Fall In Love Again) (Rossi/Frost - 12") 9. I Wonder Why (Rossi/Frost - 12") 10. The House (Bernie Frost single) 11. What Do You Want To Hear Today? (Bernie Frost single) 12. Modern Romance (I Want To Fall In Love Again) (Rossi/Frost - 7") 13. I Wonder Why (Rossi/Frost - 7") 14. Jealousy (Rossi/Frost - 7") 15. Where Are You Now (Rossi/Frost - 7") 16. That's Alright (Rossi/Frost - 7")
1. In The Army Now (remix) 2. Lonely 3. Keep Me Guessing 4. Don't Give It Up 5. Heartburn 6. Late Last Night 7. Long Legged Girls 8. Rock N Roll Floorboards 9. Naughty Girl (extended) 10. Dreamin' (wet mix) 11. In The Army Now (military mix) 12. Medley: Cake Mix 13. Overdose (live) 14. Dreamin' (live) 15. Blues Jam (live) 16. La Grange / Rain (live)

That bonus CD from BTB does sound interesting indeed - far better than the original album in any case . Reading the titles The House and What Do You Want To Hear Today? I wondered why I had never even heard the names before, but them being BF songs might explain it. I assume at least Francis plays/sings on them or else why would they be stuck on a Quo album ? Some of those are already on the Rockers Rollin box set though - I need to campare .. Not that keen on the Army bonus tracks ..

The House is a Bernie Frost solo track that was recorded in the 70's and released as a single. Most of Quo played on it. Unless they re-recorded it, I'm not sure why its included here. What Do You Want To Hear Today? was the B-side. All of the other tracks, specially the Rossi/Frost songs, are fairly well known. Overdose live is a real bonus. I've never ever heard that. It had been dropped by the time I saw them in 1986. Rock 'n' Roll Floorboards has a riff similar to Keep Me Guessing at the start. Its not bad. My main worry is Quo's cover of La Grange segging into Rain. When on earth did they do that live? First I've heard of that. I do remember them doing a blues jam but I didn't think it was that long ago. Maybe a different one and just a rehearsal type thing. All in all, very interesting and as Dark says, it's good to see the back of unlistenable live bootlegs that have been given next to no modern day clean up. There was also a rumour/speculation that deluxe editions of 1+9+8+2 and Ain't Complaining were being released as well. There's even an image of the cover of the 1+9+8+2 CD kicking about online. Incidentally, when you click on those links in the first post, they automatically take you to the UK Amazon site

But of course I may be wrong here

From all the tracks listed above, I only know 6 of them. That's how it will stay.

La Grange is not the ZZ top son, is the guitar riff of Better times, played as part of a Jam in the 1987 tour. It was on youtube. I could not find it, but I found this, which is similar to the Jam that I am talking about (althoug the better times riff is not played) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahqq2zMDN10

That's what I vaguely remember; a blues jam leading into Bye Bye Johnny although I didn't see the band in '87. There isn't even a hint of La Grange. Just have to wait and see what we get. Maybe playing around with the riff to La Grange led to Better Times being written. There is a similarity at the start. Who knows? All speculation till the day.

The riff was played at this gig: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwxxijqctzE (some interesting facts, Rick playing the piano, Let's dance in the medley, batman...) But the video o the whole gig in which the jam before BBJ was played, is not anymore in youtube. I seem to rebember that it was like 20 seconds of the starting riff of better times and then they moved on to a new song.

Quoincidence, are these Brixton Fair Deal Studios tracks some of those that have been kicking around as part of the "tour rehearsal" bootleg? The live material on the Ain't Complaining CD is already available as part of the Live At The BBC box. But thanks for confirming that these two are also being released.

And the Live Wembley gig was on the BBC Boxset but missing Rossi's talking in-between some tracks which is present on this release.

I still can't find anything 'official' about these deluxe editions.
They're due out next month but all there seems to be out there are references to the live releases. I can understand these taking priority. It's actually quite unusual pencilling in the deluxe CD's for the same release date as the new live albums.
Just have to see what pitches up and when.

This is a bunch of the Alt Mixes combined...
The Stand Up & Fight Remix can be heard at the beginning and then when the track starts, that's Take 4 with the Harmonised Guitar sections
other mixes can be heard such as the instrumental take and backing vocals only... these Alt Mixes were found back in the early 2000's when the Rockers Rollin' Boxset was being put together

This is the one with the " there's nothing left; there's nothing right" samples in it from the Ain't Complaining track. Someone doodling in the studio I presume. As they tended to do in the 80's. I wonder why The Fighter was given the elbow. It seems to have been THE main song at the time. Then suddenly it wasn't.

Once they heard Ain't Complaining, it would have been easy for them to see which was the more commercial track out of the two.

The missing tracks such as;- The Wanderer (Sharon The Nag Mix) Milton Keynes Medley (Live!) Jealousy (Single) Naughty Girl (Single)
I will share them once the deluxe editions have come out so if you buy the albums digitally or rip them at all, you can add them straight to the folder

Then it became available, along with several of the tracks turning up on these deluxe editions, on the vinyl album box set. Naughty Girl came with the last singles box set. Although it's almost indistinguishable from Dreamin'. I don't know why but a live version of Overdose excites me the most!

I did suspect they would avoid the live album(s) release date.
I don't suppose it makes a massive difference but to those of us grabbing the lot, it saves forking out a small fortune in one the month.

My draft also included a live version of Save Me, but there were problems with that. It's a song Quo played even less than Overdose.
