What's going to happen with it ? Will it be passed on to one of his kids or maybe end up in a museum .. ? As far as I'm aware nothing has ever been mentioned what's going to happen to the instrument once Rick isn't around to play it any more. Would you consider it a sacrilege if it was played by another musician or would it be OK if RPJ say would play it on stage ? Should it be buried with its master or does it deserve a life of its own is what it's about.
We don't have a say in this, naturally, but we probably know what we prefer.
I know I wouldn't mind if it's passed on to another musician within the Parfitt family - rather the opposite. It's silly and I'm aware it would sound different played by a different person, but it would definitely give me goosebumps seeing and hearing it again ..

I suppose it would be nice if it was on show as an exhibit in some museum somewhere but which one?
Hard Rock Cafes always have artists instruments on show and they regularly change their displays by exchanging them with other cafes from around the world but I doubt if the family would want to take the chance with trusting others with it. Only guessing though.
Perhaps it's of more interest to us and it would have little significance with the general public at large? To them, it's probably just a white guitar.
It will be of course be of great sentimental value to the Parfitt family and I'd imagine it will have been left to them.

I would like A badge or a patch of Ricks white telecaster to go with the other Quo patches on my Levi jacket.

Actually with Francis not using the green one any longer they should exhibit the two together - if it's going to be the museum option.
After all those two guitars have been classed as among the 10 most famous by Fender themselves.

As for Rick's guitar, there was one of his in the Edinburgh Hard Rock Café a few years back; behind the bar. But it disappeared and a staff member said it was now in Ontario or Montreal. Can't remember which. I think it was the old sort of dark sunburst thing he used to play during Forty Five Hundred Times way back in the 70's. It certainly wasn't a Telecaster. I remember Rory Gallagher's old battered Strat being on display in Harrods when Rick was there. Rick's Tele should stay with the family; its an heirloom and should be there for all to see in whosever house it ends up in. But it could maybe be put on display (a la Rory) on the odd occasion. It is very iconic now.

Total sacrilege if anyone else played it as far as I'm concerned, it should forever remain silent. The guitar should remain in the family, and perhaps, if the family wish, exhibited at various venues from time to time I know that's a flight case but that looks too much like his guitar in an open coffin to me.
Not keen on that pic although I know it was posted with good intentions.

I think I know what Ricks take on this would be, guitars are made to be played, not hung on walls and admired.

I know it's to much to ask, but as it was aledged that Rick was going to attend the Quo convention at Mindhead in October, I would like to see Rick's white telecaster at the venue and maybe for a small charge to be given to a chosen charity fans could have a picture taken with the great man's guitar.

I think I know what Ricks take on this would be, guitars are made to be played, not hung on walls and admired. Not this one, it was more than just a guitar, and the thought of anybody else playing it disgusts me It's a weird thing though to some musicians a guitar is just "A tool" used to do their job. Like I use screwdrivers, pliers and hammers to do mine. My Grandad was the village blacksmith and he had a favorite hammer that he used. I now own that hammer and still use it for what it was designed for. I expect the Tele to go to one of Rick's sons. If they want to play it then that would not be a problem to me. (though it would not be for the faint hearted with those strings he has on it).

Us guitarists do get attached to certain guitars we own, but the magic isn't in the guitar its in our fingers and the way we play. Rick proved the point admirably, playing everything from SG's through to a Yamaha AX series but what ever he played you could still tell it's Rick.
So it begs the question of why did he keep playing that 60's tele and his late 50's esquire so much? Simple really he got them how he wanted them, rock solid, always stayed in tune always delivered the goods and felt comfortable. Lets not make the mistake of transferring some kind of magical powers on what is essentially 3 planks of wood and some strings with a couple of pickups bunged on it. The magic was in the hands, mind and heart of the man who used it and if someone gifted me that guitar, I'd re string it with .10's adjust the neck and action and do as its previous owner did, hammer the f*** out of it.

Sorry, but in this case yer comparison is total and utter bollox, NOBODY should be allowed to play that guitar, EVER, for anyone to do so would be total and utter sacrilege to me and I would despise them to the ends of the earth Not even one of Rick's sons. Which is the most likely place his two most famous guitars will go too.

Of course, as my signature says, all imvho I can see it remaining in the family for the future, however should in the future they have any debts. Then the guitars could sadly be sold to pay these off.

I also heard that the green Tele's truss rod was knackered. Normally that would be a simple case of replacing the neck, but if the body has gone soft too then it's probably better to move on to a new guitar.

I don't care what anyone says, rossi could have got an exact "new" replica built of his green tele, but he chose to choose an anti quo guitar.....I suggest on purpose.

So, you agree or don't agree, or just being childish? Not a good day today for this sort of behaviour. Let it be. What I think of his choice in guitars is irrelevant, because it's his choice. I personally wouldn't want one of those, but clearly he liked it enough to make it his main stage guitar. Why whine and complain about other people's tastes?
