"Patty Parfitt Be careful of Chinese Whispers, there is No PLC no album no tour, R has announced he is doing a Solo Album and maybe using one of Alans songs he has written with him and maybe John will play on it...Nothing more."

Oh come on - it was never a runner. Rick was (and probably still is) very fragile. If he can't do electric with Quo and all the built in expertise and support, he surely can't do it in the "unknown" of PLC. His nerves would be shredded. Give him a break and let him do what he wants to do, when he's ready to do it and when his medical advisers say he can.

However from a possible recording comment from John. It turned into an Album, a Tour, The 3 of them suing Francis for the name. There is not a chance the 3 of them could tour anymore, maybe they could record but we don't know what will happen.

Source, as is in who said that ? I have seen it quoted on another MSG board. I can't find it on FB however a very long post that I was commenting on has been deleted of FB.

FFS! to redress the balance a little, JC stated this week that its possible himself and Alan will record some stuff with Rick, JC would not have made a comment like that if there was no foundation to it That is true and a fact as we have all heard him say that. It's just others have blown this all out of proportion. I said right from the start it may only be on one track for Rick's solo album which again we know he is doing.

I'd assume the make or break thing for Rick would be (health permitting) the size of it and whether there's money to be made from it. I can't see Rick playing clubs or small venues the way JC's Quo does or just a little bigger while Quo fill the hugest arenas at the moment. John will hope something will come of it, because for him it's the other way round - it would be bigger than anything he is able to achieve on his own and the same goes for Alan, who doesn't have any own band project anymore these days. For both having Rick would be a gain, but I doubt it would sound as inviting for Rick himself. On the other hand, considering Rick's songwriting over the last decades, I can imagine for him to be thankful for any contribution he gets from Alan or elsewhere (Bob ?) in that department.
We shall find out next year ..

I tend to agree with the above, but would add that Rick has much more time on his hands now to write material than he has ever had,, end of the day, to have the 3 of them record some material together is good enough for me I assume Wayne Morris is going to play lead guitar and Bob might be involved too.

Given it's well known he doesn't pick up a guitar very often outside gigs, ( as opposed to FR who plays every day) I doubt he has picked one up at all for months now, so I am not expecting much in the writing dept or anything else for that matter.

This PLC album and tour is to me bollocks from start to finish.
Alan and Rick is both unwell and are getting older every day,and I can't see anyone of them fit enough to go on any tour.
To be part of Ricks possible(?) solo album is another business.
As been said Rick is probably very happy with every input he can get in the making of an album.
Good luck to him and hope it really happens.

That's a valid objection actually I haven't thought of before .. I doubt Rick has a drawer full of songs ready for use and he won't have been able to compose using a guitar up till recently. Maybe he has just started with it and hopes due to being motivated that songs will come easily ?

Re recording some of his older songs may be an option but can't really think of any that need to be redone and improved upon. Suppose One for the Money could be rocked up.. :-)

I think, unfortunality, that RP cant sing as good as before. So prob the soloalbum will sound poor. Its better to retired at the top IMO

To keep up the lifestyle he's used to and even more so with yet another expensive divorce looming. That's why I assume he'll take every possibility that offers enough - a book, a solo record, .. - or returning to Quo. That has brought another thought to my mind - is there a possibility at all for him to return ? Not because of him or the guys in the band not wanting, but because of insurance and other legal hindrances. Maybe the way to go is to just plan with him for one festival .. see how it goes .. and only then think about the next. He'd have to make himself matchfit all by himself though and I guess that would for once include practicing at home too.

I was thinking about the possibility of Rick returning to the band last night and came to the conclusion that he probably won't, even though I'd like him to.
I doubt if they'd be able to obtain insurance for him now after the past year or so, think he'll be too much of a risk. Perhaps he'll stay part of the band if there's any recording or promoting to be done but I don't think he'll be back on tour, be it electric or Aquostic.
I'd like to think he'd be able to return for a one off festival appearance, film it, release it, that way it gives him and us, chance to say goodbye and see him play live one last time.

The insurance issue is probably one of the biggest sticking points in him playing live again in any capacity. He had no insurance before this latest heart attack because of his past heart problems. Ever since Michael Jackson pegged it and cost insurers thousands nearly millions. They have tightened up their belts and any artist with dodgy health has their premiums sent through the roof.

Surely having Ritchie or Freddie on stand by to fill in so that the show didn't need to be cancelled would do wouldn't it? Yes they would have to change the set, and they would have to rehearse the stand in up as well as Rick, and people who were expecting one last fling from Rick would be disappointed; but that's your insurance, having a replacement ready.

I think he has been uninsurable for a while now, which is why he has been replaced by Freddie or now Richie, as the underwriters insist there is a ready replacement, as opposed to FR wherea gig can be cancelled if he is not able to play eg Paris 2 weeks ago. Clearly though even with situations like Paris, they probably have to demonstrate there is a genuine problem verified by Doctors which I suspect is why any cancellation is left to very late in the day.
If RP is uninsurable, any talk of a solo tour is more BS.

I hadn't really thought about it like that but I suppose for a one off show in the UK, then that could very well be the solution.
Change the set? Now you're talking

I assumed IAC was talking about with Quo not solo. Surely a RP solo tour without RP is 100pct not a RP solo tour, (as opposed to Quo without him which is open to interpretation).I still maintain he would be uninsurable for a solo on that basis.

I'm convinced that Rick has gone for good Wouldn't you like to see him return for just one more time? A farewell and an opportunity to see him battering out the opening chords of Caroline just one more time?
I would but only if he was up for it and there was no danger of doing any further damage health wise.

Correct, although I'm sure NOBODY would wish to see Rick take any risks at all with his health Re:gigs No, of course not. I think every single Quo fan would (or should) say that is entirely Rick's (and the band's decision) whether or not he plays with them again. His health is the number one priority and is ultimately his decision. He would have plenty of practice and rehearsal before he stepped back onto the stage in front of an audience again though, whether it be solo or with Quo. So he should know if he was up to it or not. I honestly (and sadly) don't think we'll ever see Rick back on stage with CQ. No-one knows exactly what happened and what went on behind the scenes, but I think it's finished.

I'm convinced that Rick has gone for good, even if his health improved enough for him to do more with the band, I honestly believe there is much more to this other than the obvious health issues, hopefully 2017 will reveal all I don't think they will reveal all to be honest....although you never know, if Rick has left for good that does shift the goalposts as to what is acceptable and what isn't. When they were together they definitely kept most things out of the public eye, which I believe is the right thing to do. Although when you want publicity you let something slip and get yourself a big headline!
