If You Can't Stand The Heat was my first major disappointment as a Quo fan. But everything is relative I suppose. I actually really liked a good half dozen tracks on it. It's just I was used to liking everything! I'm still keen on Oh, What A Night! and I've always loved Like A Good Girl. But finding less lively and, frankly, bland songs such as I'm Giving Up My Worrying and Someone Show Me Home - on the A-Side! - was a real shock at the time But to balance that out, I thought Francis's solo version of Someone Show Me Home was really good. And I have no idea why because they're not exactly a million miles apart. Agree with that. I had only been a Quo fan since Rockin All Over the World (still love it) but got all the previous albums and played them to death before the Heat album came out. For me Heat was and still is a patchy album and even though I enjoy listening to it I would say it is never going to be a go to album for me (apart from Accident Prone which I could play 100 times in a row and never be bored of it)

Today's delicacies have started with Dog of Two Head and as a follow up to Ma Kelly's it carried on that road to the Quo we all know. Again why it never sold well I can only assume is down to Pye not pushing it.

Followed up with Ain't Complaining. Now I know this is knocked by loads of Quo fans but I love this album. I just think it's quality.
Thought I'd add after listening to the Deluxe bonus 2nd disc that the remixes of Complaning, Love and Bridges are excellent. Most of the bonus material is very good indeed.

I listened to Ma Kelly’s today when I was driving around for work and I realised I love the album. Yes it’s dated and very raw, but this is part of its charm. I got as far as Is It Really Me/ Gotta Go Home and REALLY enjoyed it.
I’m not sure the tracks like Lakky Lady would get by the PC brigade in today’s climate, but it really shows to me how strong the songwriting was progressing.
I have to say tho that the solos on Is It Really Me are very raw and basic.
To me April Sring and Summer was a standout track, along with Shyfly and Juniors Wailing.
Great Album tho 👍

Ma Kelly I only discovered in late 1973. Got it for my Christmas that year in fact. I'd already devoured Piledriver, Dog and Hello! - in that order - and I saw this in a record shop but didn't really know much about it except I saw an advert for it in one of the music papers and it included In My Chair as one of the tracks. I've since established that was probably an American import. I have to admit, most of the album is too raw and too unpolished for my tastes. It was even back then. But there's no getting away from the fact that I still adore April Spring Summer And Wednesdays and Lakky Lady. The quality of those sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Dog Of Two Head demonstrated a huge improvement in only a year and remains one my favourite albums of all time

WYW, cracking album, favs are Shady Lady, Runaway and Breaking away 👍 Breaking Away still stands out for me. Probably the last time they closed an album with a track that was usually the longest on there, with changes in key and tempo all the way through. I used to look forward to that. It was more often than not the album's highlight and almost the band's signature on a record. Call me old fashioned; OK just call me old But I've always had a liking for songs that last more than your average 3 or 4 minutes. But it was a very 70's thing. And it certainly was for Quo. I had high hopes for Overdose when I first heard it. But it never went anywhere. Pity. Real potential there.

It’s actually good you are doing this as it’s making me re-visit these albums as well.
I’m gonna have to put this on tomorrow as well 🤔

I have has WYW on in the car over the last couple of days and it’s better than I remember.
Shady Lady, Come Rock with Me / Rockin On and Runaway are faves.
On the remaster Bad Company and Rearrange are great too.
I must have played Rearrange 6 times in the last few days, I can’t get it out of my head.
Did Quo ever record a finished version of it, I know Rossi did for his last album? To me the demo version is better than Fran’s and Hanna’s, although I do like that one.

But it's obviously a Francis favourite given he recorded it properly 40 years after it was written. Wish he'd do that with Shifting Sand! I like the intro to the Francis and Hannah version. It's almost Beatles-esque. But the song is very catchy, I'll give you that. As for the Whatever You Want album, it was considered to be a bit of a return to form after Rockin' and Heat. I think I actually preferred Rockin' which borders on the controversial But, as I said before, Breaking Away is a classic. As is Who Asked You. And the title track. It's just that I've heard it that often, it has no impact any more.

ISOTFC- I forgot how much I enjoy this album. Solid throughout, Favourite track, many to choose from but "I don't want to hurt you anymore" by a whisker I also listened to it this week and again thoroughly enjoyed it, although I think it does get a little plodding in the middle with tracks like You’re The One For Me and Figure of Eight. Apart from that there are some very good stuff on there. ISOTFC would easily make it into my top 10 Quo albums. I was expecting you to go onto 1982 next judging by your previous posts. I listened to that yesterday and was very disappointed after the Fourth Chord album. To me that album sounds like a very tired band running out of ideas, which is strange as I loved it at the time as it was one of the first albums I bought from the band. Some people seem to have the idea that most of the material recorded before 86 was spot on and most of the stuff after that was crap, that certainly isn’t how I feel 🙂
