So the new album became available on Amazon Music about 12.20am! I was beginning to think it wasn't going to happen, so I'm well happy. I've listened to the first 10 tracks a few times. Obviously I was already really familiar with Liberty Lane and Backbone, I had been listening to I Wanna Run Away with You for the last few days, and Falling Off the World today after it was played on Radio 2 this morning. I'd also listened to Cut Me Some Slack live and the John David version of Better Take Care. I'm going to leave track 11, Running Out of Time until the morning, and hopefully the deluxe CD will come through the door and then I'll be able to listen to the 2 bonus tracks as well.....I've basically been spreading the new tunes out since LL and CMSS were first played live and put on youtube! First off, I love it! I do think in time there'll be a few dodgy songs that I'll get a bit bored of, but generally I like the sound and the style of the album, and the effort they've made to sound like this (It's a million miles away from Perfect Remedy or Thirsty Work)! It does sound like a different Quo album to me (maybe partly because it's so new and I'm not used to it yet), but in a good way. I'm sure I'll get used to it over the next few weeks when the new tracks blend in with the ones I already knew and it will start to sound like a complete album rather than random tracks that I've heard at different times, some a lot more than others. To me it sounds like there's a lot of 'grooves' on the album....a bit like the Elvis Costello song they covered on the Riffs album. I think in general a lot of the songs are slower in tempo than a lot of the songs on QPQ; I think part of the reason I like the WYW and RTYD albums are because there are more slower tempo songs on them. QPQ on the other hand seems to be more of an up tempo album. Also I don't think the album in general (except LL and BB) sounds too poppy in it's production, in fact it sounds quite bare and striped down in places. I really like the sound of Cut Me Some Slack (which I had only heard live), and Better Take Care (the Quo version). BTC in particular I really think they've done a good job of and I much prefer it to John David's original version. I wouldn't have opened the album with Waiting for a Woman (probably Liberty Lane) but I do like the song, and think it'll be a grower. I really like Leon's song, Falling Off the World, and after only a couple of listens I think Ritchie's song Get Out of my Head will also grow on me. There's none of them that I don't like at the moment....I'll report back next week! I think I need to listen to it some more (and to the other 3 songs) before I can formulate any more opinions and get a true handle on it. But I do think in the long run it might sit somewhere near the top of the post 1985 Quo albums, and better than the weaker Frantic Four/Five albums. Sorry if I've rambled a bit....it's 1.40am and I should be in bed! Will be interesting to hear everyone else's thoughts after a few listens, and then again next week. Happy listening!

Got an e-mail this morning saying that the album will be delivered between 10:00 and 13:00. I can wait that long. Working at the moment anyway. But we're off to the rugby this afternoon for the evening kick off so not sure I'll get to hear it till the weekend. And with this streaming cold, I might not hear it with any clarity anyway He moaned like a man with a cold

Good Morning, thought I'd share my review, although I've just started listening to it on Spotify, while I wait for my red vinyl (it's prettier than black ) WAITING FOR A WOMAN: I like the rhythm, ok it plods but it's quite catchy with a good solo, but I really can't get 'gimme all your loving' out of my head when I'm listening to it. CUT ME SOME SLACK: Ok, we all know this, but I love it, more so listening to the album version. LIBERTY LANE: I'll admit, I wasn't sure when I heard them playing it live (youtube) as to me it felt a little flat, but here it does come alive and it's really grown on me now. I SEE YOU'RE IN SOME TROUBLE: This is the catchy, there is a brief melody of 'stupid cupid' in the verse, but I like the changes in the song, has a quirky freshness to it. BACKING OFF: hmmm, this is probably going to be a hidden gem, I don't have an opinion yet, as it's quite an interesting song. I WANNA AWAY WITH YOU: A bog standard Quo song, but catchy, and could easily be on an early 80's Quo album. BACKBONE: Ok, well, I've had my say on this song before, the main riff all the way through is repetitive but the song was a grower, and the vocals towards the end made it more interesting, plus Leons drumming was a stroke of genius to break the repetitiveness . BETTER TAKE CARE: Well, I heard a little bit of the original by John David and to be honest, I didn't like it. But this version is one of my faves on the album, but does have a 'sweet home Alabama' about it. But thats ok FALLING OFF THE WORLD: And here we have Leon's song, this is quite a good song, I like the break down later in the song. GET OUT OF MY HEAD: And now to Ritchie, I think his studio voice is similar to Francis in my opinion, but it's a great song. RUNNING OUT OF TIME: Hmmmm, not sure yet. I have to say Leons drumming is exceptional, my only complaint are the drums are too low in the mix Overall view from one listen, I think it's a strong album and some fresh ideas in there, especially considering it's the bands overall 33rd studio album. so I'm going to get ready for work and hope the physical album is here when I get home.

That's what I was like when I listened to the very small sample that was available. Same tempo, same feel to it. And the guitars have a slight ZZ Top resonance to them. But, admittedly, that was only after a few bars.

There isn't a track I don't like, listened to the two bonus tracks also. I will have a good listen after work but for now my early favourite is Face the music. Some cracking tunes on there, really, really good album (imo)

Sis has just e-mailed me from her work. She has her own little private office and can listen to music. Says she loves it on first listen. I trust her judgement on it because we tend to like the same Quo stuff. Have done since the days of the James Callaghan government and power cuts Looking forward to my own listening experience

Hi Guys, here is what I posted in the other forum...
Not what I expected, its better. Major point, there are no howlers on this one for me, which is a far more consistent album than I have come to expect over decades of Quo. It's got something quite 'classy' about it too. It's not 'heavy', not in the least, but it's not bad, not bad at all.
I need more time to digest it, obviously, and time will tell for all of us whether it's a 'grower' or a 'fader' (c), but from a couple of middle of the night spins (sober!), I would say that I can understand why its picking up positive reviews by critics, in a way that I couldn't from the samples. Take for example, Waiting for a Woman - whether it's the right track to open the album or not is a different matter, but I have gone from the sampled view of 'bland, mid-paced plodding Quo-by-numbers', to thinking I was wrong, this is as cool as f*ck....it's got a swagger to it that genuinely reminds me of the old days.
There is one track (despite my liking it quite a bit, after an initial 'WTF is this, line dancing?'....to....'oh, yeah, I get it') which is perilously close to a very famous Southern American Rock song, but that I know I am going to enjoy listening to very loud with my windows down in my Mustang (haw haw).
The downside? is that an album of primarily "7s" (out of 10), it doesn't have any 9s...or 10s, for me. The closest track is "Get out of my Head", unquestionably the best piece on the album, and a solid 8.5. We ask a lot from them don't we, to sound like Quo 'should sound' but not to recycle ROLD or do Quo by numbers, to give us something driving/heavy, exciting and fresh sounding - they nail that request with Get Out of my Head. It's a small sweet spot between commercial/lite and heavy/rock Quo, with material in the former frequently disappointing right back to the FF days, but this song nestles in that sweet spot perfectly. I have a strong hunch that non-Quo fans with an ear for rock, would like this one.
So, as I say, time will tell, but I am already looking forward to putting it on again in a minute and significantly, I had an instinctive feeling from my 'musical gut', that I really hope they do another album, to build on this. And I really really didn't expect to feel that!

Actually, very well put We're a demanding lot. Not really sure why. Is it because Quo were SO good in the past - bordering on genius in rock terms in my opinion - that they have a huge expectation to live up to? Among Quo fans at any rate. Whatever the reason, they've delivered consistently over the decades. Or most of us wouldn't be here dissecting every little note and nuance.

The whole package arrived about half eleven. The t-shirt is a bit, eh, square. As these things tend to be. And wrapped up like a cotton wool ball in the box like Rick's The vinyl albums are not individually marked so I have no idea which is which until I unseal them. Not that it matters. I just want to make sure I have all three. The two singles are already in the personal Quo singles boxes that adorn the bookshelf Oh, yeah; almost forgot. The music. Not a clue. No time to listen to it. Laytaaahhh

Just heard it all, a really strong album that's very well recorded. Slight problem as the dog stole my box set from the table when we were all out and chewed the box up. Luckily the CD cases and T shirt were ok. PS. Like the dedication to Rick on the back sleeve.

Listening for the ...( I lost the count) on Spotify while waiting my CD to come ( Not sure how long will it take to Spain-some days I guess)
Better than expected after hearing the samples..
Unlike many others I loved Waiting for a Woman since the beggining, and I believe it is a good opener in the vein of Goin Nowhere ( Not that I am a big fan of thirsty works)..makes me clapp and do my head down..
Cut me some slack..love it, reminds me a lot to Solid Gold..
Liberty Lane much better in the context of the album and a grower..I found it a bit dull at the beggining... The rest specially Backing off, I quite like it as well, with the exception of Better take care ( Never been a fan of the David songs, found them quite average and soulness if it make sense)...
In fact after the first litenings I think the first half of the album is much better than the second half like happened with Heavy traffic ( Do not think BB will be better than HT though)
2 considerations.
Having bought the CD with the bonus tracks and having listened to both in the other forum.
Crazy is horrible imo..and probably the only one to Skip at least at the beggining. In the vein of Burning bridge that I never liked and all around my hat which surprisingly I Like. Face the music, quite a good song, the intro reminds me a bit to Thin Lizzy.. should have been in the album instead of Running, but I guess Ritchie having 2 songs it is difficult.
7,5/ 10 for me, a 11 songs with Face the music instead of Running..would make a 8/10
A new Quo album in 2019 I would have never imagine.

Excellent album. I think Waiting is a cool starter. It's got a great groove. Slack and Liberty were already etched in the brain. The backing vocals on Trouble sound so much like Rick. I love Backing Off. Wasn't keen on I Wanna Runaway on first listen but much better second time around. Backbone is a great title track. Falling off shows drummers can write a good song. Get Out is brilliant...more please Richie. Running is a cool ending.
Overall a proper solid Quo album. 8 out of 10. One great thing is Rossi giving us decent solos which have been missed over the years. Also there are loads of snippets from other Quo songs here there and everywhere just to get into your head.
Oh forgot love Better Take Care.

Now then ...after three times on Spotify. 1.Waiting for a woman. Really good,bluesy/moody feel. Unusual and very nice guitar work,a strong opener 7/10. 2.Cut me some slack. Fantastic riff, I don't think they have done a better song since the WYW album.Miles better than Solid Gold. If it wasn't for the owl imitations it would've got 10. 9,5/10 3.Liberty lane. A good pop song and probably the best single choice. 6,5/10 4.I see you're in some trouble. Another poppy song,a bit too much Thirsty workish for my liking. 4/10 5. Backing off. Sounds like ABBA in the main riff, also hear some Pennsylvania Blues tonight. I'm not sure. 4/10 6.I wanna run away with you. Chugs along nicely.Unmistakeable Quo. A bit of Polly from RTYD. Nice solo. 6/10 7.Backbone. Strange tune.very repetitive, sounds better though than on first listen, eating it's way into your head.6/10 8.Better take care. John Davids song. Sweet home Alabama. I think it's a really good song, nice chorus, good solo and I like it a lot. 7,5/10 9. Falling off the world. Leons effort.Catchy tune, great solo, plods along nicely. 5/10 10. Get out of my head. Young Malones song. He's got a really nice voice,a bit too much of these ooh, ooh, oohs and aah aah aahs. 6/10 11. Running out of time. Nice guitar work, sounds very much like the song 'The party ain't over yet',but much better imho. 7/10. Overall a good album from this lineup,I think Rick would have liked it. The production sounds a bit too much Paxman, would have liked the RTYD production but you can't have everything. Thanks for this effort lads, I think you have done a good job.

Got home from work and found the album waiting for me on vinyl, my first record for my new turntable, what a great way break it in. So this morning's review was based on me just waking up, all I'm going to add now as I've listened to it for the second time, I bloody love it, it's really damn good album and the lads should be proud. Hopefully Francis will find some drive from this to consider doing a follow up at some point, but I'm sure if it sells well then he definitely will want to, cause it's all about success with the main man
