That could potentially be very interesting and a great night out. I'd feel monumentally hacked off though if I went and all I heard was the same old tales and one liners. I won't be travelling all that way for it but if it went on the road and there was one somewhere near me I'd go along.
Wonder if he'll pick up a guitar and noodle? I quite like the clips on one of the DVD's where he's being interviewed and picks up an acoustic guitar to play snippets of songs.

I would expect it to be well rehearsed and doubt there will be many revelations for us diehards.
For example, when chatting to Mick Wall at the convention last year, he told me that Rick absolutely hated Francis, but they kept up their matey camaraderie for the sake of the business.
I'd be very surprised if it will be a warts 'n' all chat, but would be very refreshing if it were.

Interesting when you consider that the same thing was being planned for Rick. Dartford is a bit too far to travel but if there are other dates nearer to home, I'd give it a go. May 2019 might, just might, be significant. There could be a solo album out or about to come out. Timing is everything. Or so those in the 'biz' tell us I doubt we'll get a warts and all account of anything really, although it would be bizarre - and very disappointing - if he ignored the elephant in the room completely. Call me old fashioned but I prefer music - and more particularly new music - to chat. What a weirdo, eh?

Ah yes, of course: Frame will be turning 70 in May 2019! Do we see a pattern here?

That ties in with what Patty said in her book in the 1990s - Rick couldn’t stand Francis but Francis had a real affection for Rick . Yet Francis always gets the flak

I do find it strange when I hear that Rick hated Frame, I can understand they weren't best friends but surely they still must have had a reasonable friendship, deep down at least?

I do find it strange when I hear that Rick hated Frame, I can understand they weren't best friends but surely they still must have had a reasonable friendship, deep down at least? Guess there was a lot of envy involved. Rick did struggle for position with Alan - and behind Francis ! - as far back as the 70s. He talks about it in the XSAA book .. Then Francis got his act together, kept his house and generally was far more disciplined, while Rick failed yet another marriage, kept blowing his money .. and despite the double act stayed the main man within the band. That's a lot to be envious of and after decades Rick may have been sick and tired of it. I'd not call it hate though and I'd assume it wasn't mutual. Francis may have had enough of Rick's unreliable and undisciplined ways, but he still saw him as the little brother he had always been - at least at the time the bios were written. Returning to the topic - I like the name "I Talk Too Much" and I guess, if it's going to be anything like this: link it'll be highly entertaining.

The personal relationships between members of the band is something we'll never fully understand or appreciate because each of them will tell it from their own point of view. As we all do. Even if they contradict each other, it will all feel like the truth to them. It will all BE the truth to them.
Had Rick been given the opportunity to do the same thing, I might have gone simply because he was no longer in the band. Because Francis still is, I'm not so sure. I don't know about anyone else but it really always has been about Quo for me. Not Francis or any one member. Not even when it was the 'double act'.

looks to be tied in with an Autobiography. Amazon have that as coming out in April 19. If he is doing a tour of it and it is anywhere near me I'll go.

People talk too much in general, don't they? This dismantling of certain members of my once much-beloved band has apparently become 'in vogue' and makes me want to give up on message boards altogether. Rick hated Francis. Francis was (is) a dictator who bullied the others into doing things his way. Francis and Rick were back stabbers. Rick was lazy and wouldn't appear at rehearsals. Rick didn't write enough songs. He was a burden to the others. His guitar parts on half of the studio albums were played by someone else. Writing credits were given to him out of sheer compassion. His voice was 'shot', so his vocals were technically enhanced in the studio. He was envious of Francis. Rick and Francis never liked each other and put on an act all through the years.
And so on and so on. Status Quo have never been a band, just an illusion. Agree with all you say rhere, not sure bout the last sentence.

Make it so. PLEASE!

@inna, that is the perfect summation of Status Quo message boards since I first joined one in 2002. You may retire gracefully. Your work is done.

Actually, when I think about it, the fact that I've been on one Quo message board or another for 16 years is just a little bit scary. And a bit too sad for comfort It's the only small concession to social media I actually indulge in. Probably because it's the only subject that I half know anything about

I agree with you there, may not have been best pals any more but I’m not sure there was a hatred there. You only have to look at them when they were at the brewery’s filming and the Dog Trust videos, there’s no hate or contempt there. Either that or they’re very good actors and we all know that they aren’t, just watch Bull Quo to confirm that....

Looks like the contract Simon Porter got for Rick has been passed on to Francis then .. It would explain why this 'an evening with ..' is done with Mick Wall. He was co-author for XSAA and I'd hazard a guess he's co-author with the new one 'I talk too much' (?) too. Not sure Francis would want to actually do this, but I'd assume it's a contractual thing - same as with the album in the mid-80s maybe ? I do wonder what the difference will be though (apart from another decade) compared to XSAA ? I wasn't sure it was a good idea Rick writing another one and I'm not sure it's a good one with Francis either. Will have to wait and see ..

Regarding the initial topic. I hope this does spin out to be more than a one off and come closer to the Midlands - I guess that purely depends on demand - if there is a chance for someone to make money they it will have legs!! I certainly wouldn't expect to hear anything earth shatteringly new - I'd assume some topics will be ignored or skimped and others replayed for the umpenth time. I guess we would here about insecure little show offs but hope no cotton buds would be harmed in the making of the 'show'! Actually aren't cotton buds going to be banned - is that purely to stop Francis ding his party peace or is it really for environmental reasons?? I would just like to hear some stories that we possibly haven't heard - there must be 4500 of them which I'm sure Francis (as long as he is the mood for it) would deliver very well to make an entertaining evening. I would certainly hope that he'd have an acoustic with him for some a pickin' and a grinnin' although no Rockin' or Caroline PLEASE!!! I think it would be a good eving out!
Having said all of that, if Francis is just having to do it because there was a contract in place with a promotor for Rick then I'd be concerned that it would just be treated as the bare minimum to honour contracts and Francis' heart might not be in it. same with a book - if he's got to do a book then I wouldn't hold my breath for much. As has been already said is there much more to hear from Francis? Certainly there is the events of the last couple of years but I'm not convinced that this is a period of time that he would talk about. Of course, I'd still buy the book!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't John do this some years ago - or at least, wasn't it on the cards? May be shelved?

I got an email from FTMO with the dates on Thursday. Nothing anywhere near me. I think Harrogate is the furthest north the tour is coming.

I am interested in going but not enough to pay extra for the front rows. Box office of the nearest Midlands venue was shut when I rang yesterday so will try again Tuesday. The online bookings for premium seats weren't exactly going like hot cakes on Friday. Alan and John had plenty to say for themselves at the Convention in October so it will be interesting to hear Francis's take on things. As for Francis's heart not being in it, from my observations once he is committed to something he gives 100%.

I honestly cannot think of anything worse. Record a new album and tour that please!!! Flooding, earthquakes, a new Ed Sheeran album .. ? Obviously the band already is recording a new album (see insider's posts) and are going to tour it next year. How much of it remains to be seen .. And I've got to say, I'm really looking forward to it. I assume this is Francis honouring the treaties Simon Porter signed for Rick and which are now used to promote Francis' solo album, which has been waiting for release for years now. So we've got to simply look at it as something additional, not instead of - and I'm fine with that
