I've always liked this song, the tune and the lyrics. They have a few others that I'm partial to too. This could prove to be an interesting and diverse thread @inna I remember that song but I'd never have guessed who recorded it. For some reason, the line "Wonder what's cooking at the palace tonight? Mm stew and beans" always stayed with me. Don't know why

This is my very favourite single of the 80's. They were one hit wonders but I loved this and still do. The album which spawned it is excellent as well. I think it's actually featured in that "Atomic Blonde" movie which was out last year. Very good thread, @inna.

From 1980 (I think). Think Frankie is vastly underrated.

I'm going to stick another two up; one here from the 80's and another over in the 70's thread. From a rather fine gentleman performer. This one with what you might call a 'classic' video. If you're a bloke. If you're a girlie, go check Shania Twain. Also great. Magnificent and timeless.

@inna, I don’t know why I typed that wrong lyric. I watched the video and then proceeded to to type palace instead of house. Of course it’s house, can’t explain that mistake. Give me a hundred lines Miss. mortified Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn’t realised that I had used that phrase repeatedly. I must do better. Better give me a hundred lines for that too.

Liked this even before I knew that Francis co-produced it.

I would I just realised last night that in these types of threads in the past, I have used f** s*** r***** rather a lot and I hadn't really noticed that until you highlighted it above. Re Kylie, that's my secret out now

Aah, "for some reason".... Never gave it a thought, smokie . I never even noticed! I was just highlighting Inna's phrase and putting my slant on it. As for Ms Minogue. That's actually true. Me and a couple of mates from work tripped through to Glasgow for a bit of a laugh but it turned out she was actually excellent. Put on a great show. Only then, though, did we realise that (for some reason ) she was a gay icon. A discussion for another day perhaps but why do some women performers become gay icons?

This turned up on a repeat of TOTP on TV last night. A collector's item! They are still a very good band and this is the performance that was on. Great stuff.

I'm sorry, snakelady , but that is dreadful! An assault on the ears. I've not heard of her. Is it a her? I'm never 100 sure these days. I'm never EVER playing that again. I never said you should listen to that. All I did was mention she (yep, she's a 'she' ) - and especially with that song - was a gay icon. I remember a Brösel comic (you'll have no idea who he is, worth googling ..), two blokes arm im arm, beer in the other hand singing it, but just couldn't find it on tinternet. Marianne Rosenberg was actually quite popular during the Hitparade days back in the 70s. Funnily enough larger parts of today's youth like a similar style of music. Shrinks have explained it with them trying to rebel against their parents music. What do you do when your parents listen to rock and metal and similar and there's a chance you meet them at gigs ? You return to what your (great-)grandparents loved and your parents hated, obviously ..

What do you do when your parents listen to rock and metal and similar and there's a chance you meet them at gigs ? You return to what your (great-)grandparents loved and your parents hated, obviously .. Urban/r&b/rap and varieties of each completely dominate nowadays. Almost every download song that charts is in that style. Certainly in the UK. It's actually quite boring. Justin Timberlake is performing the half time show at the Superbowl this year and Bruno Mars and Black Eyed Peas both did it recently which sort of emphasises the point. I was just thinking the other night when watching a repeat of TOTP that the sheer variety in the 70's and 80's in particular was so refreshing, whether I liked a song or not. Killing Joke were followed by Howard Jones, Aswad, Ashford & Simpson and Barbara Dickson! I know it sounds old but nowadays I can't tell my Kate Perry from my Taylor Swift As my dad used to say to me, "it all sounds the same". Maybe it is an age thing
