Surprised nobody mentioned it before:
www.rockmeetsclassic.de/de/home.htmlI will be at Mannheim, really looking forward to seeing Francis again, as I can't/don't want to etc. see him with the so called Quo.

Thanks nino and @inna, there's mention of this on the official web site too. No doubt the usual suspects will be foaming at the mouth at this news

I've checked who else will be on - guys from the Hooters, Saga - both bands have supported Quo before .. I've no idea who Gotthard are and although I own Breakfast In America like everybody else, I', not much into Supertramp. Guess Francis does it, because he heard positive feedback from various sources, most notably Rick, and it will be paid well. Personally I'd much prefer him doing a solo tour again, playing his solo stuff and the Quo songs he loves and that are never even considered for the band's set. All those songs that I love too .. Do I want to hear him sing and play RAOTW, DD or ITAN for the 374th time ? NO !! So will I buy tickets ? Probably not, although the venue nino has already mentioned - the Rosengarten/Mannheim - is close by and a really nice venue. smokie - I haven't been to München for many years, but lots to see there (including a great footie team ). On the RMC homepage they're saying that these are merely the first dates that go on sale and more will be added, so you might want to wait a little while longer with buying tickets if your region/city hasn't been included yet.

Francis is the only act I'd be interested in. Even the two from Supertramp I don't think are the main men.
But, as Her Snakeness says, do we want to hear Rockin.... or Army.... again and again?

My enthusiasm for this has since waned after reading the replies above. It's made me realise that this package isn't really aimed at us, it's aimed at the folk who would be tempted to go and see "Francis Rossi from Status Quo". It's a pity really as I've always had a notion to visit Munich and I'm guessing The Olympiahalle is part of the Olympiapark which was built for the 1972 games and also used in the '74 World Cup. Always wanted to see that complex. snakelady, think that's a really good point actually. I'd much rather see an FR solo tour as opposed to the hits being bashed out again. Rhino is planning gigs next year, I think I'll make and effort to see one of those instead

'Sudden other commitments' - is there anything you're thinking of or just a general remark @inna ?

If I'd booked tickets to see Francis perform in Germany, including flights and hotels, then suddenly 'other commitments' got in the way and he wasn't there, I might be just a little vexed I imagine he'll be committed to it contract wise but who knows how these things work?

I'd certainly feel the same - even without the flights and hotel .. Speculating about the songs that will be played: The Hooters - All You Zombies, Johnny B, And We Danced Saga - Wind Him Up, On The Loose Supertramp - Give A Little Bit. Logical Song, School, It's raining Again Gotthard - don't know a single song Could actually be quite entertaining ..

Didn't The Hooters do Satellite? I'd have thought that was a given. Or am I thinking of a different band? I'm no expert Incidentally, does any classical stuff get played at these things? Sort of Rock Me Amadeus meets Roll Over Beethoven

It's always good to have an expert around who has actually attended a show in previous years @inna (I'd not have known about Satellite either)

I've been to four so far. Does that make me an expert, then? Compared to the rest of us - definitely !

Logical Song, School, It's raining Again Gotthard - don't know a single song Could actually be quite entertaining .. "Heaven" is the only song I know by Gotthard, but it was quite a big hit (it's a power ballad). Would seem fixed. Problem with some of the Hooters songs is that they are a 2 vocalist band as well and Rob Hyman is the one who usually sings "Johnny B" for instance... As for the rest - that would be pretty boring to be honest. Saga and Supertramp have several tracks that could work wonderfully with strings - "Fool's Overture", "If Everyone Was Listening", "Rudy" (Supertramp); "Time to Go", anything off "Generation 13" (Saga)... In the current issue of Rock It!, there is a title story about RMC. Francis will be playing seven songs (usually it's six, he wished to perform one more) and "surprises are not impossible". He also said he won't be singing Rick's songs, out of respect. It's different when he's playing with Quo because "that is basically his band as well".

Sort of Rock Me Amadeus meets Roll Over Beethoven I'm sure Eric Bazilian did All You Zombies, Johnny B., One of Us and 500 Miles on the RMC tour in 2012 or 2013. He played a variety of instruments that night, not only his guitar, but also a flute and I think a mandoline and the melodica. He was really amazing. Hopefully, if they do 500 Miles, he'll also play da harp

And We Danced is not a particular favourite of mine (though it's OK in my book), but Karla with a K proves you can make an accordion work in a rock context. I actually posted it in some other thread here a while ago! 25 Hours a Day should appeal to any Quo fan with its jigs

Maybe I should reconsider my attitude towards that ? Not because of the Quo songs, although '7 songs' and 'surprises' does sound promising, but for the rest ? Concerts are nearly sold out already though ..
Guess the 7 Quo songs: Down Down, RAOTW, ITAN and .. ? Dirty Water would certainly work, In My Chair would be great .. Maybe the Quo songs Francis played on his solo tour are a hint and show the direction of his considerations ?

Seven songs each? Now that would be a novelty. They usually do four songs each and then get together for the grand finale. I don't think Francis will play anything the audience doesn't know as it's not solely a Quo audience. That's not what RMC is about. It's a "greatest hits" night. Obviously it's just Francis, who's allowed to do 7 songs - going by frozenhero's answer to my post ^^ How many songs did Rick sing ?

the headliner has always a few more songs in 2015 Rick had 5, mentioned above, and Ian Gillan had 6, plus Smoke on the Water as the finale, so that makes 7 for the headliner.

Surely they will do RAOTW for the finale?

yep, RAOTW is the finale with everybody

I don't know the event (like you do), but I guess they won't all do 7 songs, but Francis gets the most songs because he's the headline act (according to the poster). Like you say, the rest will probably do 4 each, and Francis was given 6 and asked to do 7.
I would think Caroline will be one of them. I suppose he will look at which songs were bigger hits in Germany (and any other countries they might be playing in).

That was popular on the continent/Germany? Think it's a favourite of Francis too
