Some gigs are memorable because they mark a memorable time in Quo's career (like a concert of the End of the Road Tour of 84, or one of the FF reunion gigs), other gigs seem ordinary by themselves but stand out from a personal point of view. I for one remember the Famous in the last Century Tour, when Quo played the Gelsenkirchen Amphitheatre. It was my only open-air Quo concert ever, and the venue had a very nice atmosphere with good views of the stage and freight ships passing by on the canal behind it. The volume wasn't too loud and the sound was good, too. It was the tour where Paul Hirsh stepped in for Andy who took a year off Quo to be with his wife who was terminally ill. I remember that I was slightly worried that Andy might not come back at all. Paul Hirsh did a good job indeed, but still I hoped I would see Andy again on stage. Here's a pic of the wonderful venue:

There's another gig that stands out in my memories, but not in a good way. I think it was on the Pictures Exposed Tour when Quo came to my home town. By that time my ears had already been suffering for a while and so I decided that a good view of the stage would be more important to me than the supposedly best position sound-wise, as I would have to wear effective ear plugs anyway. So I decided for a seat on a balcony on Rick's side very close to the stage. I had a very good view onto the stage from above, but I couldn't enjoy the concert at all, because the sound was a catastrophe. It was just plain noise, hardly any voices or instruments identifiable. I even risked to do without the ear plugs for a short while, but even that didn't help. I was utterly disappointed, it felt like watching a video with the volume turned off and replaced by the noise from within a steel plant. So I had no joy and still collected some further damage to my ears. That was when I decided that my Quo concert days from then on would only be with a Live DVD in my living room...
BUT: now there's hope for an acoustic tour and maybe one more chance to watch Quo live without risking further ear damage or just plain noise instead of a decent live sound.

I've only ever been to one outdoor gig as well, the Out In The Green event on Loreley in 1986, which was notable for the return of Quo. Only I had no idea back then about End Of The Road, the band disbanding and reforming, as I had lost interest in them at the start of the 80s. This is a pic of the venue - though not from the Quo gig: We were sat right in the middle for the other acts. For Quo I got up and was stood in front of the stage (that extension didn't exist back then) although I was still barely able to walk .. Guess I've got to add a word of warning for you Ingo: I don't know about the Roundhouse, but the acoustic gig in Stuttgart was loud. Not as loud as usual, so I didn't wear ear protection for a change, but it couldn't have been any louder and I would have. So I guess it might work for you, but only with Oropax firmly inserted. This is where I saw Quo play for the first time - Ludwigshafen, Eberthalle. They played there throughout the 70s (last saw them there in 81). Guess what I found as well, when I searched for 'photo ludwigshafen Eberthalle' ?

Quo missed my 18th birthday by six months, Kursaal. Notable gigs in Quo's career? Well, I'm not sure. When I saw Andy play live with them for the first time and Francis introduced him as their new keyboard player? When Pete Kircher had replaced John Coghlan and I saw him play with the band live for the first time? I remember it well. I mean, all the gigs are about the memories I have. I don't know about the band's, though. Loreley, now that's some venue. Too many people for my liking, but quite spectacular. I saw Quo in February 1976, too, Kathrin. But even 38 years ago, I was one day ahead of you. But I paid the same amount of money for the ticket. And it even looked the same, except for the town printed on it. Have you seen the wonderful photos here: www.facebook.com/pages/Status-Quo-all-over-the-world/1411416622407173I can hardly wait now! I didn't see them in Feb. 76, but the tickets from the following years looked the same and I merely found that one online (think it was in 79 when they started to use the standard Quo font for tickets). I only became a fan with the WSOL single and that must've been summer/autumn 76. I'd have been too young anyway for my parents to allow me to go to a gig, they were rather conservative in that respect (unlike us - dragging our kids along to Quo gigs from the tender age of 5. :lolflg: )

My dad is absolutely and completely tone deaf ! He's never been to a rock gig in all of his life and could never understand what's so great about them . So no chance of him even driving me (that's why I had to convert my mum to Quo later). It was the dad of a friend who'd come along .. Interestingly my 78 ticket still looked like the one above, only the colours were different. This font was sold as a patch as well and I've managed to get my oldest boy one for his jeans jacket. It looks so great ! I'd have given my right arm (well, nearly) for one back then, but alas it wasn't to be ..

I seem to remember Quo had sound issues, but otherwise it was a great festival indeed. It's a shame no footage exists as all Out In The Green vids I've seen so far are from Dinkelsbühl.

I remember there was a problem indeed. If I'm right, they failed completely the intro of Little Lady and had to start the song all over again. I must have this concert on audio-tape somewhere, so I can check this if you want to... Unfortunately ARD didn't film this concert at the Loreley like they used to do for Rockpalast.

Yes, there are other Belgians around :xmas:. Well, they normally come twice a year to our little country (since 2010) .... except for this year : only 1 concert (Frantic Four last March ).

Well, if we both remember it chances are they had indeed sound problems, so no need to waste time with checking . And yep, it's a real shame it wasn't filmed and thus is lost for posterity. Hubby (he wasn't hubby back then though) was really impressed with Rory's performance as well. Something else I noticed were lot's of people wearing Quo's Back t-shirts ..

OOPS: they came twice this year too: forgot all about the concert in Oostende on 18 July .... better stop watching those Frantic Four pictures because they are messing with my brain:lolflg: We were lucky in Ostend as right after the concert we were asked to leave the premises as there was a storm coming....

Apart from the obvious FF concerts (best I've ever been to, nothing will ever beat them 7 concerts) there have been some quite memorable ones for me. But here's a quick run through why (apart from them being FF) they were special to me: Manchester 06.03.13 - The date should be enough - first time in 32 years. Glasgow 10.03.13 - My meet and greet (best day of my life) and seing Quo in mighty and legendary Glasgow. London 16.03.13 - First FF gig with my dad, in Quos living room. Stuttgart 21.03.14 - FF in our living room - who would've ever thought this? London 28./29.03.14 - It's FF in Hammersmith, what am I supposed to say? Dublin 12.04.14 - The Final Fling (hopefully not). Not as quick as I thought, but here we go - Aalen, Greuthalle, 04.10.2005: My first ever Quo gig, together with my dad. Will never forget this feeling when the lights went down and the drone started. I was literally shaking, I think my heart skipped a few beats...and then Ricky hammered out the intro to Caroline. Only time (apart from Dublin this year) my eyes were quiet wet at a Quo gig. - Siegen, 26.10.2007: Got Ricks wristband - do I need to tell you more? It spent the night, still soaking wet, on my pillow next to me - Braunschweig, 14.11.2008: First and only time I got to the first row, I skipped school to be there in time. (quite a long travel to Braunschweig from Stuttgart...) - London, 13.12.2008: First foreign gig for me. Present for my 18th birthday. One weekend in London and seeing Quo in their hometown on saturday evening with a damn great "seat" - 3rd row in front of Francis. Oh, as we talk about Francis: The last gig (for me) with his ponytail!!! Still miss it... - Luxemburg, 23.05.2010: Travelled by bus - filled with approx. 50 other Quo fans from all over Germany. What a ride! - Amsterdam, 21.11.2012: Wanted to see the Quo so badly there. Again, birthday present, this time for my 22nd one. Them Dutch are mad - and that's more than positive. - London, 22.10.2014: Obvious, isn't it? First time they played acoustically - and what a treat that was. (Stuttgart two days later was great as well, but the Roundhouse gets the nod over it) Nice to recall some of these gigs. All of my 44 Quo gigs were special in a way and without a doubt great. But these 14 are the standout ones for me.
