And Oh Baby. (There's also a ITAN video out there, but I leave that to someone else to put up here, because I don't like it that much ) Good to see how much Leon is into it and is interacting with the band. Dorsn't look to me as a mere hired session drummer some keep calling him.

Seems a lot of filming went on in Krefeld - thanks for putting these up, Ingo. I've read about this next set change .. I hate the song along with its pendant TW . Thought it was a great idea when they dropped both two years ago and came up with the new start of C, PP, HYB - best part of the whole set. Why, oh why if they feel the need to change it yet again, can't they play a newer song instead ??!! Put R'N'R'N'Y back in ! That won't need any additional rehearsals either, is a very good live song and hasn't been done to death in contrast to SBYBIL. I could despair about this band and their attitude towards their set. :confused4:

I do prefer SBYBIL over PP. I think it just has more drive, and that's important at the start of the gig. RNRNY can't quite achieve that, me thinks. Don't despair Kathrin. Maybe at Mannheim the band will come up with yet another variation of the set list - and maybe that time you'll approve it With the German Tour not being an overly long one, I'm surprised how many subtle changes they have tried out during this tour. Maybe they are testing tjings fir the forthcoming UK tour.

Our friend Inna would be somewhere in that crowd ( but probably more on Rick's side )

Hopefully following another triumphant gig at Mannheim tonight, the German Tour will end in Freiburg on December 2nd. Freiburg is located in the far south-western corner of Germany close to the Schwarzwald (Black Forrest), in fact it's the southern-most city (220,000 inhabitants) of Germany. The majestic Rhine may pass a few kilometres away but there's also a lot of water running through the old town. (These runnels are called "Bächle") Although I've only been there twice, I have fallen in love with the beautiful old town. Freiburg has a well-known university (with 25,000 students) that is located right in the old town. It was the first German city to have a Mayor from the Green Party (2002 and still running). Freiburg is also known for its warm climate. Whenever you see the national wheather forecast, the Freiburg area seems to be at least one degree warmer than the rest of the country.

The venue of the Freiburg gig is a hall within a modern exhibition centre. The Rothausarena has a capacity of up to 9,000 people.

I did indeed have a fantastic time, we all had ! - and actually I don't think I'm up to writing a report just yet .. maybe I should leave that to the guy who doesn't drink Glühwein and who managed to miss Lou Gramm .. . But then again ..

OK so here it is, my usual short and to the point report: A Quo gig on a Monday proved to be quite the organisational challenge, despite us living relatively close to Mannheim and hubby even working there. Especially as we had planned to be there early for a visit to the Christmas market with Michael and Sandra. As mentioned elsewhere already, the Rosengarten isn't exactly your standard rock venue, but rather posh - even the security wore blue suits and ties and didn't check for - well whatever they normally check for at the entrance - a first for a Quo gig. So I spent the time waiting for my oldest son to return home trying to make myself look a bit posh as well - no jeans, but tight fitting studded white pants, bit of make-up .. you get the idea. With our youngest coming from his boarding school from more or less the opposite direction, he had to take the train and tram and we all met on the free Luisenpark parking lot at 5pm, just outside the environment protection zone that the inner city of Mannheim constitutes these days - and which I'm not allowed to enter with my car, as I don't have a green sticker (it's a turbo diesel, not new and thus considered 'dirty' ). So on we drove in hubby's car up close to the venue where we found us another free parking space, courtesy of hubby's employer. A quick phone call to Sandra had us agreeing on a place to meet - the entrance of the Christmas market - and that's what were we met a few minutes later. It was lovely to see them again and as none of us had had a bite to eat for hours, it was decided that we'd introduce them into the finer art of German Christmas market food. Naturally we had to start with a Glühwein (kind of mulled wine) to warm us up from inside. Being a girl with fine taste Sandra loved it just like me. Micheal though .. the less said, the better . Next on the list was the BBQ and everybody had rolls with steaks or meatballs with onions or bratwurst. Then a bit of window shopping and to finish it all off nicely something sweet for dessert - in our case crêpes with chocolate or apple sauce filling. Then it was time for Michael and Sandra to return to their hotel, while we headed to the curling plastic slope ( no ice available, but it did look the part) that had been rented for the afternoon by hubby's company. After a short visit to the car to store things and for my oldest to change into the patched denim jacket we finally entered the venue. Coats were left at the wardrobe, seats were found easily - second row, me right in front of the drumkit - and then we waited for our British friends to return .. Well .. they didn't, at least not in time to see Lou Gramm perform, but I leave it to Michael to come up with an explanation/excuse for it. Now who had mentioned Lou Gramm had sound problems, his singing wasn't up to standard anymore or he didn't play Urgent on this tour ? The sound was brilliant throughout (the venue is built for it !), Lou's singing was outstanding - he may have gone through tough times, but his voice is still strong - and he did play all the hits including Urgent. In fact apart from his opener I knew every single song, starting with Cold As Ice as second song. The audience was into the performance fast and he repeatedly received well deserved and generous rounds of applause especially for Juke Box Hero. We even got Hotblooded for an encore. With the stage relatively small for a rock gig, there wasn't a curtain and the gear of Lou's band had to be carried out of the hall through the front aisle. Still it took less than 25min. till everything was ready for Quo. In the meantime two more seats in front of my men had been occupied - Michael and Sandra had finally arrived .. We didn't get the 'Rick starts Caroline riff outlined behind curtain and then curtain drops' start, due to a lack of curtain. The band simply strolled onto the stage, picked up their guitars and in typical Quo stance Rick started in front of the amps. As with Lou Gramm the Quo sound was great as well, albeit considerably louder. No problem though with ear protection. The set was the same as in Krefeld - Caroline followed by SBYBIL and Rain and later Little Lady straight into Hold You Back with no MOTT. Rick looked indeed slender and healthy again and was fit as a fiddle -as were the rest of the guys. Great playing by all of them, my death metal son was especially impressed with Leon's drumming and him using a double base ( :dunce: ). Prior to the gig I had been worrying how a German audience would react to an all seated venue - we've never had that before at a rock gig - and if I was expected to remain seated to not block someone else's view. Indeed during Lou Gramm's performance everybody stayed in their seats even when clapping along and only after the songs people would get up for a round of applause. So I did the same basically. Quo came on though and the first chords of Caroline had just about hit me and I was up singing and dancing and headbanging. I just can't sit through a Quo gig, impossible, I've got to get up and move. The guys in front of me and to my left saw it differently and remained glued to their seats throughout the gig. They were the exception though, nearly everybody downstairs as well as up on the balconies was up on their feet. Still it made me feel slightly exposed: I had the perfect view towards the band, mainly Francis, who was stood right in front of me nearly, but that went for the other way round as well. So a bit of flirting and joking went on with the guys - when f.e. Rick sang 'you got a wiggle when you walk' I'd wiggle my bum, which made him smile .. Only when at the end of the gig Francis pointed to the place beside him on stage and gestured I should come - I shook my head and refused to. I mean - what was I expected to do, stand there looking awkward ?! I'm not that bold and he took me completely by surprise. :oo: We only got the short encore - no Juniors Wailing or Burning Bridges, but it was a great gig anyway. Oh Baby, Blue Eyed Lady and Railroad fitted in really well and I thought Francis played longer solos than in recent years. Great drum solo by Leon as well. . Then it was all over and after a (non-alcoholic) drink we had to say our goodbyes rather quickly, as today was a normal work day and even the boy at the boarding school had to write a class test (hope it went well ). Hm, was that short and to the point enough, I wonder ? :dunce:

Thanks for the nice report Kathrin. Good to see that - despite your initial lack of enthusiasm due to the setlist - you had a great time and enjoyed the gig that much.

Thanks guys Well, Ingo, there are a few songs in the set I can't stand - the start with SBYBIL and Rain following Caroline is kind of an anti-climax for me (as opposed to the great threesome they played the last two tours), but as they played them anyway .. I could've sat down sulking, but instead decided to make the most of it. There are a few more songs I don't like - CUOY, BFM, WYW, RAOTW and the encore, but basically it's the same as with the albums. I skip tracks on every single one of them - doesn't mean they can't be me favourite albums though despite it. I am selective like that .

Nice pics, though not Germany anymore .. Maybe we're going to get a Dutch thread including gig report from Rosi on Friday ? .. and surely our British members will then come up with their own thread once the band hits home turf ! :bss: :rr-hbg:

Thanks for that, I like the way the security bloke looks at his watch wondering, how long is there to go, at the end of Blue Eyed Lady.. :haha:
