This may be completely weird to most of you, but I guess all of our German board members will have a smile on their face watching the video Kathrin has just put on. Edit: just noticed that this message is at the top of page 3 of this thread. The video I am talking about is at the very bottom of page 2 Oh, those Germans! No, I won't watch it, no way. If I do, the song will stay with me for the rest of the day and all of the night, like an ear worm. :dunce: My kids were fans of Jim & Lukas', so I've got my fair share of them in books, plays, the music,... over the years. Same here - my boys have all the books .. shall I put up a link to the techno version for you :lolflg: ?

Thanx for putting up both videos, Inna. Unfortunately, there's no real comparison possible due to the poor recording of the Kiel gig. Or maybe that's even not so unfortunate, because if both videos had the same quality we might start fighting about which one is better So I'll concentrate on the Kiel video: The song works better than I thought. It seems very energetic and with heavy drums. With Leon singing the second voice to Francis's lead voice that's a first with Quo. Although it's not that easy to recognize Leon in the mix, it works quite well, I think. Would love to hear a proper recording of that. But to answer Inna's question: I think no further singer required if Leon's voice is up in the mix. Rick seemed in very good mood. Posing confidently in front of the audience, obviously enjoying it. And something must have dropped on Francis' head during the song. Even Rick noticed it and came over for having a look and a laugh So, Kathrin & Inna, even if they don't play MOTT, this is one you can look forward to.

Kiel seems to be the gig with the most filming going on. Here's Hold you Back for you:

I know, I know, I know, the Medley is not everyone's cuppa tea, but I think it just works fine in this video and the band seem to be in top form. A long version of Railroad included btw. Francis especially is obviously enjoying himself. And now we know that Andrew loves "Erbsen-Soup"

Same here - my boys have all the books .. shall I put up a link to the techno version for you :lolflg: ? No, thanks. Regarding BEL, I'd say there's a second singing voice missing. What do you think? There is a second voice singing - Leon. Actually I prefer it like this. I don't think Alan's and Francis' voices suit each other that well. It's the one thing I don't like about the FF version. Edit: I see Ingo has already mentioned Leon .. and thanks for the videos, Ingo

I'm not sure how much of these clips I should watch. Might take the shine off it a little, less than two weeks to Glasgow.
Germany looks spectacular though. Thanks for posting all the pictures.
Never been to Germany but I really want to visit now after seeing these photos.

Never been to Germany but I really want to visit now after seeing these photos. Mind you, we only selected the best glossy sunshiny pics. Germany looks much less attractive on a grey autumn day. But I don't wanna put you off coming here. Seen through the eyes of a tourist (German or from abroad), Germany surely is beautiful in places.

I've read somewhere that LL has been moved and is part of the medley again, same as always, but don't know if that has been Kiel or Schwerin or wherever ? :dunce: Well, you'll be the first to actually see them live from all of us - that's going to end all speculations

Very good stuff for those of you who love the song (like Kathrin ). I'm a bit divided. I love the solo part, really do, but if I could I would transplant it to another song, because the rest of Oh Baby doesn't appeal to me.

It never stood out for me either as long as it was merely an album track, but after hearing it live, I very much appreciate it now. It has such a great heaviness and drive

I love it actually - and I'm NOT into techno - but think they caught the essence of the song quite well Next on Quo's list will be Krefeld - quite the trip from Augsburg .. Krefeld is considerably smaller, but still has a few picturesque places:

This is the Erfurt setlist that was posted on the German MB: Caroline Paper Plane Little Lady Rain Hold you back Beginnig of the End Oh Baby Proposing-Medley Big fat Mama Oriental Creepin' up on you Blue eyed Lady In the Army Drum-Solo Roll over lay down Down Down Whatever you want Rockin' all over the World Rock'n Roll Music / Bye Bye Johnny As far as I can see they dropped MOTT last Saturday. Let's wait and see what they're playing tonight at Saarbrücken. And Burning Bridges was out again, R'n'R Music back in. They had better play MOTT at Mannheim.
Don't want a riot breaking out behind us

There's a gig report up on the German mb about Augsburg - overall there have been only very few reports put up (either people don't go or they don't scribble ..). It looks like everybody who has commented so far thought that Lou Gramm was a great support and well received. Quo seem to have overcome their sound problems. No mention of the set (yet), thus no mention whether MOTT is back in or not (I seriously doubt it though). Encore seems to still merely consist of the R'n'R Music snippet plus BBJ snippet, which IMO isn't worthy to be called encore ..
I've just per chance (or rather per hubby tidying up) rediscovered my set list from 2002: They still played considerably longer then and even more interesting - ROLD and DD were still in different places in the set, so merely WYW and RAOTW at the end plus a longer encore with Anniversary Waltz.

The news about the set is disappointing.
I know it s difficult but I had hoped that they would have given the thing a shake.
OK, perhaps I have seen the band too many times over the years but when you hear The Oriental, then you can guess that Creepin Up on You will be next.
The same applies to Roll Over Lay Down, you could almost put money on what the next three songs will be.
If that's the encore, then why bother?
Bands like The Rolling Stones alter their set depending if they are playing a stadium, a theatre or an arena. I really don't know why Quo's set remains so static
On the plus side though, Germany just gets looking better and better. Golf courses too? Can it get any better?

There are people more qualified than me to present Mannheim (notably Kathrin, I guess ) and the water tower has already been mentioned. But as I have neglected this thread a bit recently, I thought I could add a few facts about Mannheim, where Quo will be playing on December 1st. I have been there a couple of times without really falling in love with the town, although it's supposed to be the nicer half of the sister-towns of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim seperated by the Rhine. Funnily enough the two towns - although so close - belong to different federal states (Mannheim is in Baden-Württemberg, Ludwigshafen is in Rheinpland-Pfalz) with the Rhine being the invisible border. Mannheim (300,000 inhabitants) has one of the largest Baroque Palaces in Europe. The complete front has a total length of over 400 metres: One unique feature of Mannheim is its grid-shaped city center. The streets do not have names but just letters (A, B, C,...), so a street address in Mannheim could be as simple as "D4". The grid was first planned in 1600 and survived in its basic structure until today. The venue itself is the Congress Centre, right next to the water tower (Wasserturm, bottom right on the above map). Its more traditional name is Rosengarten, and it was first built in 1900/1903: Quo will play the Mozartsaal, an all seated concert hall with room for approx. 2,300 spectators.

Seems I included too many pictures into the above message. Whenever I save it, one of the pictures vanishes. :dunce: So here's the picture of the Mannheim Palace I wanted to include above: And a bit of text is missing from the above message, too, i.e. my comment on the picture of the destroyed palace: many of Germany's most impressive buildings in their current state are not as old as they seem, because they had to be restored after WW II.

I don't think I've ever been to Mannheim. But I've been to Heidelberg and Worms. Great photos again, Ingo. The thing about the grid is quite interesting. Was the town drawn on a piece of paper, similar to NYC's Avenues and Streets? Yes, it seems so, and about 200 years before the grid of Manhattan was planned.

Mannheim is a rather new town and the inner city - grid and ring road - was designed to fit the Schloß (which isn't worth a visit as it's rather bland inside and home to part of the university these days). If you want to visit a really beautiful Rokoko layout - French and English gardens and palace - you better go to the nearby Schwetzingen. There are street names within the grid actually, though not many. The main axises have names: the east-west one is Breite Straße and the north-south one starting at the water tower are the Planken. Both are nearly completely pedestrian zones. Additionally the one-way streets each side of the Planken have names as well - Kunststraße on the west side and Freßgasse on the east side. The Rosengarten pic you've put up isn't the actual venue. It's merely the old part which indeed is used mainly as a conference center. The big halls - Mozartsaal and Musensaal are in the new Rosengarten. That's the modern structure behind the old Rosengarten, which you can see is connected to the neighbouring Dorint-Hotel via glass sky-walk The by far biggest venue in Mannheim is the SAP-Arena, home to our ice-hockey team Adler Mannheim as well as the handball team Rhein-Neckar Löwen. Quo wouldn't even get close to filling it though hence have never played there:

Some Krefeld clips coming up now. First here's the opener once from the balcony and once from within the crowd on ground floor. @ Inna: don't watch the end of the first clip, unless you want to know about a potential set list change in Lingen tonight

Here's Blue-eyed Lady. The sound is very good, I think. I wish Leon's voice would be up more in the mix, it seems to be quite good (maybe there's a risk of too much interference from the drums and cymbals through hos voice micro?) Francis is playing his solo immacultely And look at Rick's bewildered face as Rhino messes up his bass lines completely
