A flyer popped through my door this morning telling me about the Todd in the Hole Festival taking place in Todd Green, Stevenage, Herts on the weekend of 14, 15 16 July 2023. So what? Well, among the main acts is one Rick Parfitt Jr and RPJ band. Festival details: toddinthehole.co.uk/#welcomeRPJ and band: toddinthehole.co.uk/festival-events/rpj/RPJ website: rpjband.co.uk/
I don't fancy a festival weekend of cover acts, and from what I've seen RPJ Band is another one of those. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. Maybe that's the way it is in live music these days, as there's nothing new coming through to replace the 'old guard'.

I've only ever seen RPJ once (supporting Quo as it happened) and entertaining as he and his band were, it was basically all covers. It's a pity because he has a good voice. I'm not sure how much music he's released. The only material I've come across was a single back in about 2007, but that was also a cover; of Tears For Fears Sowing The Seeds of Love. It was pretty good though. I'm not sure how you get new music out there now. I mean, quality music of real craft. Some of it seems to now come from YouTubers sitting in their kitchen getting 2 million 'hits' for strumming a guitar and winsomely singing of their angst. Maybe this is the true extension and legacy of punk. A sort of anyone can do it attitude with the platforms on which to display their talents. The media that is, not the shoes
