I have to confess, I'm probably getting old (probably?
) but I'm not missing going to gigs. Not just Quo gigs I hasten to add.
Me & Mrs Mortified are off to see Rod Stewart at Edinburgh Castle in a couple of weeks but that's at her behest because she's never seen him live. We then have Rhino's Revenge in October (twice) and Francis in November.
But I did notice during the Quo gig last December that my heart just wasn't in it as much as it has been. Maybe it was the seats, which weren't great, or maybe it has become just too familiar. It's taken long enough!
This has absolutely nothing to do with the band. They performed superbly on the night. And a sell-out crowd were well up for it. Covid and lockdown has a lot to do with it I think. I got out of the habit for 5 years and the enthusiasm doesn't seem to have come back.
But who knows? Next time might be different. I tend to miss the absence of new material more than anything. But that's been dwindling for a while now. 2 albums of new material in 11 years now with no sign of any more due to "
there's no money in it". A sad indictment of something; the music industry itself? Band attitude? Age?
Only Rhino and Leon seem to have any drive left for making new music for it's own sake.
Bl00dy hell, this post is beginning to sound really depressing
Better have another coffee. Perk me up. Old people, eh?
