I have to confess, I was never a fan but it's another one gone There was a good documentary on him the other night on BBC 4; one I've seen before. It covered his career up until a couple of years ago. It seems his popularity in America waned very quickly but in the UK and Europe he remained almost as popular as ever. RIP, Mr Loaf.

I watched that too, Friday night. I was a bit taken aback by the nature of some of the performances - how that young woman could be mauled and slobbered over by him I cannot understand! Plus it was so sexual. I know I must sound like a bit of a prude and I'm really not, and I enjoyed the music side of things, but some of the antics on stage were a bit much.

I think the performance you're probably talking about was the one on the "Old Grey Whistle Test". I remember watching that at the time (late 70's or so) and thinking it wasn't really for me. All a bit too close to a "musical" for my tastes. Meat Loaf always was. I was probably in my late teens so never really bothered about the whole "slobbering" thing And, to be fair, the woman singer, when she spoke about it, wasn't bothered either. All part of the act. But I hope she was well paid! This was one of the performances that really made Meat Loaf take off in the UK. That and more particularly a video for the Bat Out Of Hell song. Both were on the Whistle Test. UK music programmes (although there were only really two) did have quite an influence back then. Bowie ( Starman) and Alice Cooper ( School's Out) on TOTP also being good examples.
