I do like Chris Rea. Never managed to see him live. I suspect it's not going to happen now.

Saw him on the Whitehouse and Mortimer fishing show (Bob Mortimer and Chris Rea are from the same neck of the woods) and Chriss looked really poor. Never been into his music (Driving Home for Christmas is brilliant!) but I admire his change of direction and attitude when told he had a life treatening illness i.e. deciding to play the kind f music he wanted to rather than what the record company demanded.

Yeah, I saw him interviewed recently and he looked thin and not very well at all. Maybe he just looked old. He's 70 now and been through a fair bit with his health. I got the Blue Guitars box set for Christmas when it came out some years back and it's a brilliant observation of where the blues came from and how they evolved. 11 CD's worth! It also contains Chris Rea's own artwork for each

As I just watched Manfred Mann's Earth Band on the Baloise Session, I had to correct the thread title...
I like some of Chris' music - mostly the grittier stuff. The album versions of "The Road to Hell" and "Auberge" are brilliant songs, and I still find it amazing that he managed to get a full-on blues-rock song into the regular radio rotation and onto some big TV shows just a few years ago ("Still So Far To Go").
