Fancied a bit of Quo while I’m chilling so I put on the Live @ Wacken DVD and I realised that no matter how many times I hear Softer Ride Live I still love it.
The version on the Wacken dvd is particularly good, loads of power and great harmonies from the band.
Any others from elsewhere?
Actually can I add that I like the Wacken dvd, cranked up loud it sounds great. 🙂

I've not watched that DVD yet or even listened to the album. I think I became tired of all the live stuff coming out after a while. Because it was all so similar.
But I agree with you 100%; I never tire of hearing Softer Ride when its in the set. Another that appears intermittently that I can always listen to is In My Chair.

Probably goes against the grain, but I love In The Army Now live.

Probably goes against the grain, but I love In The Army Now live. To be fair it is a good version on the Wacken dvd but I wouldn’t choose it. Each to their own tho. Actually I still quite like Beginning of the End and The Oriental, but I know some people will slate me for that. I do think they should change them out tho.

I think ITAN suffers a bit from the fact that it's too high for Francis these days - and it changes keys halfway through! But at Wacken the crowd of course does a great job of singing the chorus.
Softer Ride is a real oddity. Not just because it was a Piledriver era b-side that turned into a Hello! album track, but also because it's a FF song the FF almost never played live - setlist.fm records one instance in 1972, the first outing following that was in 1995! So although it's been played quite a bit since then (all of 1996 to 1998, once in 1999, a couple of times from 2001 to 2003, from 2008 to 2012 and then again from 2016 onwards, not counting acoustic concerts), this might be part of the reason why it still sounds fresh.
When Francis can be bothered to play the solos well, ROLD is still effective.

Loved ROLD in it's original format, especially when it used to immediately follow Caroline as the set openers. Not so keen when Rossi messes with it, but it's still a powerhouse of the set.

'Don't waste my time' from the 1990 Butlins gig, a cracking version with a 'no bending strings Francis' at his best.

Probably goes against the grain, but I love In The Army Now live. I think it only goes against the grain with the vocal minority who always seem to suck the joy out of anything ! It’s always one of their popular songs live and was a huge hit not just here but in Europe. I’m with you - I like it ! It’s also their most popular song going by YouTube views .

The first time I heard it at a gig , 95ish , I couldn’t believe how load it was when the drums came crashing in at the start !

The first time I heard it at a gig , 95ish , I couldn’t believe how load it was when the drums came crashing in at the start ! I completely agree. When they started the intro, I nearly wet myself. And I was nearly 40! Now I nearly wet myself simply because I'm a lot older but that's another story As for In The Army Now, I really liked it when I first heard it. It was different and I think it showed the band in a new light. One that I liked. But I am tired of it now. I suspect they are as well - just as they must be with Rockin' and several others. Personally, there would be less chance of becoming tired of anything if they'd only shake the set up - substantially! - every couple of years. Just as an example, I've seen The Stones 4 times now. I've heard Jumping Jack Flash, Satisfaction, Tumbling Dice, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, Brown Sugar and Honky Tonk Women but only the once! Familiarity can breed contempt. However, I also appreciate that unfamiliarity can lead to a downturn in the atmosphere, especially with what I am reluctant to call a 'modern' Quo audience. We need two bands!! One for the masses and one for, well, whatever it is we're called

Has to be Big Fat Mama for me. It has always sounded great live, a live masterpiece in my ears!

It cranked up immediately after the medley by which time I was gasping for air and sweating like.... well, you can fill in the blank with your own version

If Quo could play several times in a row at the same venue, they could advertise one of the shows as for the discerning fans and one for the casual concertgoers.

Roll Over Lay Down & Don't Waste My Time Good choices, although it would be nice if they rested ROLD from time to time. I find it strange that with some of the classic non essential songs like you have mentioned, why they don’t have a certain number and then rotate them on a nightly or tour basis and then leave a bit more room for oddball / fan favourites. It would also keep it a bit more fresh for them as well.
