Hi peeps, it’s been a while since joined in on here, I’m currently spending the evening watching definitive hits dvd, and wondered if anyone noticed on the Dear John video, that the guy on the merchandise stand looks like mr John Coghlan, would this be a secret dig at him as this would be the first single without him?

Never spotted that. Haven't seen it in a while. I do remember the young male actor in it, the main character, went on to bigger and better things. Well, bigger things anyway

The expression on his face is similar to that of JC.

I’d never noticed that and, as I hadn’t seen it in ages, I fished it out the ‘Rockin’ Through The Years’ video……what a great clip it was and a real trip down memory lane. I agree it looks like JC so it could have been a dig by the management of the day who presided over a particularly forgettable period of Quo history. Pure speculation I suppose as to whether it was deliberate or coincidental but an interesting question.

I noticed it years ago, always bugged me and will probably continue to do so

The single is a praise to JC, for great services from the early years up to then.

Somehow I doubt that.

Quo didn't even write it so I suspect a tribute to Spud was unlikely And, although lyrically it was a bit ropey, always preferred the B-side myself.

Well, I think it's some sort of 'tribute' to John, why include a song on an album so soon after his departure called Dear John if not?? I'm just guessing here of course..

The question is whether the song was already demoed or otherwise prepare prior to John storming out of the studio...
