For the first time in a long time, I listened to the album earlier this morning and had forgotten what a fantastic album it is. Not a bad track on the album for me and definitely a Quo classic IMO.

Been a while since I listened to it all the way through. I've never been 100% mad on Living On An Island, although the album version at least has a superb outro to save it from total AOR blandness. Otherwise, it's all good. And Breaking Away is an all time favourite of mine. Maybe the last time they did something that long with numerous changes in tempo. Always looked forward to the album closer. And then Rock 'n' Roll came along and everything changed forever

Yea, I go with that, a solid album all round. I thought it was a kind of return to basics after the experimental production work on the previous two albums. I particularly liked the breeziness and irreverence of both “Who Asked You” and “Rockin’ On” whilst “Breaking Away” is a bluesy plod back over time with a touch of self-deprecation (Old Men In Boys Clothes – ha!); thankfully not a lot has changed in so far as them being a good time band with tongue in cheek.

It bordered on being a concept album. The lyrics throughout - by everyone - pretty much dealt with being constantly on the road. And hating every minute. At the time, I thought we were close to the band packing it in. But they've thrown in the odd song ever since having a pop at the lifestyle ( Take Me Away or Like A Zombie for example) and still write about it occasionally. But now we get songs like The Bubble where they extol the virtues of it all. Age, eh?

I know we all have different ears but to me Living on an Island always was far more than just AOR. I mean those lyrics... "smiling for the public eye, when your body say you wanna die" - oof! It's a dark song even if it takes a lighter turn with the getting high business.
Also, the middle 8 with the key change is simply beautiful writing. I know somebody pointed out how their first big hits (POMM and Ice in the Sun, even if that was a cover) both had great middle 8s, and LOAI stands shoulder to shoulder with those.

It’s not a favourite of mine, I like some of the songs but the overall feel of the album is a bit tired and jaded. I guess that fits in with what Morty is saying.
