Not a Rush fan to be fair but they are clearly all very talented musicians.
Very Sad Loss ☹️

I was pretty shocked to hear this. Rush are among my favourite bands. Unfortunately I never got to see them live.

I was a bit shocked myself when this news hit. He must have been ill for some time. Or maybe not. I managed to catch Rush a few times. The first time was at Glasgow Apollo in 1978. Presumably it was the Hemispheres tour. I think I have the programme somewhere. Never saw them again after 1983 though. I sort of lost touch with the band after that and only picked things up again with the Test For Echo album. Not sure when that was. Late 90's I think. But I wasn't keen on it. A sad loss though

mortified Apparently he had been battling cancer for about three years. The sad thing is he barely got to enjoy his retirement from the road. Test for Echo is not one of my favourite albums, the predecessor Counterparts is pretty stunning though:

Test for Echo is not one of my favourite albums, the predecessor Counterparts is pretty stunning though: I sort of caught up a little with the advent of mp3 and downloading and went back and checked out things I'd missed. Some great stuff, in fact, like (as you say) Counterparts, Snakes & Arrows and Vapour Trails. I even grabbed the remix they brought out of that last one. Moving Pictures is still one of THE great albums for me. I did have fun in 1981. Quite a few acts released their best albums that year in my opinion Anyway, that's a topic for another day

As said, such a shame he didn’t get more time to enjoy his retirement from touring, as at times reading his books and interviews with the band it seemed like there were times that he wanted to stop before they did.
I only got into Rush post 2000, but was lucky enough to see them three times in Glasgow on the R30 tour, the gig to support Snakes & Arrows and then the Time Machine tour where they played all of Moving Pictures in the second half of the show. They put on a great show, the musicianship was obviously top notch, and of course they just had one great song after another.
I agree that Counterparts is a great album, particularly Everyday Glory, Animate and the instrumental that I forget the name of. For me though, it is the 80s run of albums that I love the most, from Signals to Hold Your Fire. Power Windows is the real highlight and my favourite album by the band. I do also like their 70s prog stuff and post 1990 releases when they went back to the guitar being the main instrument.
I also really enjoyed the books that Peart wrote, shame he never got to do more, something I assume he had probably planned to do post Rush.
