I always hated the album apart from a few tracks, but I put it on the car when I was going to walk the dog this morning and Im ashamed to say I actually enjoyed listening to it.
One thing that did stand out was how bad Good Golly Miss Molly is and also on the songs where Rossi and Parfitt are harmonising together, it shows how well it works. Claudette from a voice perspective sounds awesome. There is definitely an Everlys influence in their harmonies, intentional or not.

If this is an attempt to get some of us to re-appraise the album, it may be doomed to failure Actually, if I'm really honest, I don't think I've ever played the album all the way through. Maybe when I first got it but I don't think so. That's the problem with covers albums. If you didn't like the original songs - and whoever is covering them sticks largely to the original arrangements - they become a bit pointless to the listener. Incidentally, I see you were in the car when walking the dog. Can I just say that's the height of laziness

Can I just say that's the height of laziness I actually only played it for the title track as I woke up with it in my head and just left the rest playing. And I was driving to the riverside ya cheeky wotsit. Anyway if I want to trap the lead in the boot and drive slowly round the lanes of Hampshire that’s my business 😊😊

Can't stand the album myself... The production [Paxman] is piss poor like all the albums from the early 2000's. Not sure why he had an obsession with putting delay on the vocals and pulling the life out of any songs recorded... and to think there are some people that don't like Pip's production Sorry Mike, but you weren't and aren't right for Quo. They somehow managed to make a boring song like "Rock N' Me" even worse.

There actually are a few good covers on this album though IMO - most notably When I'm Dead And Gone. It's probably my favourite out of the three covers albums (Riffs suffers from the Quo re-re-re .. recordings with I fought The Law the best tune for me and Don't Stop was a gimmick and not Quo). Having said that, I can't stand any of the covers albums and wish they had never recorded even a single one. So I doubt even the best possible production could've saved them.

As soon as I saw the sleeve of this album in HMV or wherever it was, I was immediately on the defensive - with myself. " Give it a chance" I mused. " Don't be so superficial" I chided myself. First impressions, eh? Maybe there's something in it Best thing to come out of this whole project was the live version of Forty-Five Hundred Times/Rain from the Shepherd's Bush gig which we got with the single, Old Time Rock 'n' Roll. Anyone still able to play those old CD Roms we got back in them there days with the videos on them?

I remember deciding that if they were going to bow to record company pressure to do cover albums, that I was going to let the record company know thrown together cover albums for easy money was not what I wanted as a fan, so I refused to purchase it. Clearly my protest didn’t work as a third covers album subsequently came along.
But I do remember watching them perform Hound Dog on some TV show, and it was pretty clear there and then that I made the correct choice in not purchasing.
At a later date a friend picked up a copy in a bargain bin for a couple of pounds, and gave it to me. It really is quite bad.

My protest started way earlier: I never bought Don't Stop and never will. Nobody has mentioned the FITLC playback gig video yet. Maybe I shouldn't have either. Watched it exactly once.

I was told by someone who was there and also read at the time that once they'd finished filming the Famous In The Last Century bit, the gig that followed was outstanding. Judging by the crowd participation during Forty-Five Hundred Times, it certainly sounded like it! Maybe that's something they should release. I'm sure it must be lying gathering dust somewhere.

Did they not do the same with the Don't Stop playback, one set miming to the album and another playing live afterwards. Assume as they had the cameras there for the playback that they would have taken the opportunity to film the subsequent gigs at both. So yes, you'd have thought there is two gigs lying in the vaults of professional quality that could be released.

Although no live tracks have ever had a sniff of the outside world as far as I know. Funnily enough, these events don't seem that long ago but the most recent of the two is nearly 20 years ago! :oo:

They played FBI with Brian May and he came on during the encore. This wont ever see the light of day as the footage is nowhere to be seen and the multitracks were wiped by Rossi (supposedly) and used by Little Egypt to record their album on. Butlins 1990 gig is also missing.

I’ve actually completely changed my opinion of it now, it’s become my favourite Quo album of all time. Far better than anything the FF have ever done, the only thing that could have improved it was if Rhino sang ALL the vocals on the album. 😁😁

I think there are some good things on the album such as Way Down, Old Time Rock n Roll, When I'm Dead and Gone and a couple of others. The playback gig for the album was fun and the live show after was brilliant. The crowd were certainly up for it. I think this was the one when I dropped a certain young Beth from a great height after trying to lift her onto my shoulders for a better view. Was funny at the time, but I think she was hurting the next day.

If it isn't, then just ignore me. I get these daft notions based on a rapidly failing memory

I'm still holding out hope that there's possibly a Beta SP copy of the Brixton Live Set, as that's how a lot of stuff has survived. There's also the rehearsal footage for the Brixton gig, which can be seen during the VHS intro before Proud Mary starts, which is nowhere to be found... but the audio reels exist for that as far as I know
