Was watching the Rock Till You Drop film on YouTube and noticed around that period Rossi wore his guitar a lot higher which just didnโt look right for some reason. Roll back to 1982 it was a lot lower, and in more recent times itโs probably somewhere between the 2. Any theory as to why it has varied? Attachments:

As I'm not a guitarist I wouldn't know the actual impact on playing, but in general I know it does have effects on the posture. The guitar does have some weight after all, so there'll be consequences for the back, shoulders .. even if it does take years or decades even to notice. Maybe for that reason it simply felt better for him. Later when he started working out and strengthen his muscles the problems could've disappeared again and he was able to choose a position he felt was more natural. All mere speculation of course ..

It's to do with accuracy whilst playing. The higher it is, the easier things become to play... I'd say around this period his guitar playing improved massively

I preferred the position of it being propped up next to drum riser on a guitar stand.
Does that count ๐๐

Mrs Mortified said last week there was a Facebook article saying that it was up for auction at Sotheby's soon. Not sure precisely when. But the reserve price is (gulp - wait for it) ยฃ100,000!! :oo: They hope to make ยฃ150,000. Or in Germany, almost โฌ176,000. I actually always thought he broke it up but that's obviously not the case. I'd make a bid but I'm a bit strapped just now what with Christmas and all

Does anybody know ?ย There's a thread about the green tele on the other board. As Morty says, its going up for auction soon at Bonhams. I saw it on the wall in his studio in an interview he did earlier this year. Rumour has it the proceeds are going to Nordorf Robbins, but that's unconfirmed. Rumour has it that Rick's wife still has his white tele. It would be nice if the proceeds from Francis' do go to charity....it would also have been nice if the 2 guitars ended up displayed somewhere together. But it doesn't look like that will happen.

Agree ! Guess though that's just us nostalgic Quo fans. Francis had probably been annoyed with the thing going out of tune all the time for quite a few years already, before he finally decided enough's enough. In the end it was merely a tool for him, if a very important one. Maybe the relationship can be compared to a car you've bought because you liked it. And then you drive it for years and it becomes more than just a thing for you. At some point the repairs start though, then they become more frequent and expensive and in the end there's no point anymore clinging on to it and you actually feel happy and relieved with your brand new car and all the nice features the old one didn't have .. I assume Rick's guitar is kept by the wife for the young son to treasure as a piece of remembrance for a father he never actually got to know. So IMO it would only appear up for auction if they were desperate for the money - which I hope won't happen, for the sake of the kid.

I'd say around this period his guitar playing improved massively On the other hand, having it hung lower makes you get into the groove more easily. Look at Billy Gibbons.... waaaay down! There's a rather famous story in Keith Richards' autobiography. Apparently he told John Lennon to hang his guitar lower. Next time he saw him, it was a tiny bit lower... and then Keith apparently said "That's why you can't roll. You can only rock". Or something to the effect.
