Now on radio 2s C play list (2 or 3 plays per day) I would like to see Better take care or Face the music released as a promotion for Backbone....

It's an insipid song in my view. A hybrid of The Party Ain't Over Yet and Gone Thru The Slips.

I don’t know what Radio 2 see in this dull, bland song.
I honestly thought they’d be all over Better Take Care

Each to their own but I can definitely hear the vocal melody from TPAOY in this one and it has a similar feel to Gone Thru the Slips in the guitar parts. Bland and mediocre song in my view.

I'm starting to prefer it over Better Take Care, but that means, it's a grower and takes quite some time to really get that appreciation. Which in turn means it's not radio friendly and 2-3 plays/day won't change much in the listeners' perception. I'd have thought that radio would rather go for the tunes that grab you straight away - like Liberty Lane and Backbone - or as follow-ups Face The Music or Better Take Care. Someone will have thought something though choosing it, even if I don't get it ..

To me it's a cross between Looking Out 4 Caroline and Beginning of the End! But not nearly as good as BOTE. My least favourite track on the album along with Backing Off. Even if I like the lyrics.

FTM or BTC would have been my choice for second singles!

Running Out of Time is also my least favourite track on the album (not including Crazy Crazy). I never skip it though! I still give it 7 out of 10.

I can actually see a slight comparison with Gone Thru The Slips in the way the melody runs.
I don't mind it as a track - I don't mind any on the album - but it's not one you would say grabs you on first listen. Which I guess is what airplay is supposed to do.
Incidentally, is it the radio station/programme that chooses the song or is the song provided to them? Just wondering.

Not sure, but we have thought for a while that Radio 2 has a big say in what Quo releases as a single. I thought they've released some fairly heavy singles over the last few albums, and yet Running out of time seems to have gone back the other way. As well as Better Take Care, I think they could have considered Falling off the World too. They should (imo) release Face the Music and rerelease the album with that track on it....maybe next year before the tour! And they could throw in a couple of live tracks (LL and CMSS) from the album. I know it won't happen though (and probably isn't worth it financially), I'm just fantasizing.

I thought they sort of chose the lighter route with Better Than That and The Winner as well. Someone somewhere obviously thinks lighter is better commercially. When it comes to Quo, I don't actually think it makes any difference.
I'm one of those naïve individuals who thinks a single or song chosen for airplay should be representative of the album as a whole. They rarely are or ever have been. Not for a long time anyway.

The new video is on the official website. Quite inventive actually. And one of those 'lyric' videos that are, ahem, trending these days First time I've listened to the song in a few weeks. I rather enjoyed it. It's still reminiscent to me of Falling In Falling Out and Gone Thru The Slips. A sort of hybrid of both with something of it's own identity thrown in.

I heard it on R2 last week and it sounded quite good, better than I remember. Still not single material for me tho. 😁

Watched all the videos from the album today and this is probably the best video of the three for me. Shame the song isn’t as good as the other 2 😁
