God i am thick!! Just realised when listening to this in the car this morning what the song is actually about. So 2 political-ish songs on one Quo album. That's a first

Welcome to the non-political/environmental, listen to the music before even considering the lyrics - if at all! - club You're not the only one to be put right. I played the John David track quite a lot and still didn't twig These people put their heart and soul into songs and this old duffer doesn't even listen properly

It was quite a remarkable moment when I realized what it was about and started reading the lyrics (thank God they still include printed lyrics, good on Quo!). Not quite as close as, I don't know, hearing Backwater in 1974, but not bad either

Obviously I'm in a minority here, as lyrics are important to me. So I noticed what they were about straight away - same as with Running Out Of Time or every other tune on the album (although some are a little cryptic).

I listened to the John David original several times before hearing the Quo version. The chorus has exactly the same progression and is in the same key as Seeet Home Alabama.
It's not really my cup of tea but I prefer the John David track as it's a slightly slower tempo and has a little more space than Quo's rather busy version. Rossi's guitar solo is decent but the vocals on Quo's BTC show the limitations of its singers and just how much Rick Parfitt at his best is missed by this incarnation of the band.

So I noticed what they were about straight away - same as with Running Out Of Time or every other tune on the album (although some are a little cryptic). Stop showing off ππ The thing with me is - I'm not able to hear bass lines or drum fills or some such stuff, so I'm not able to distinguish between Quo bass players e.g., but I've always listened to lyrics - and if I don't like them for some reason, I don't like the song. I remember there was this tune, Rain In May, of which I found the lyrics too stupid to even consider to further listen to the song. I don't like Don't Drive My Car because of the lyrics and I thought You Don't Own Me showed a nasty character streak, because, while the divorce may not have been a smooth one, his former wife never got the chance to respond similarly and he knew it. Then there are lyrics where I can't figure out what they're about and that have me intrigued about it. Hold You Back was a case in point - till I read it was about songwriting. I don't know why that is, why I can't just take the music and simply consider lyrics words to compliment it. It's obviously just how I'm wired that lyrics and music are inseparable for me.
