There's one pairing left to vote on - at least while Quo haven't recorded yet another album to put up against Backbone that is .. . The only two acoustic albums Quo have ever recorded and it couldn't be any clearer for me. While I've loved A1 from the word go, I've tried to first like A2 and then to at least figure out why A2 just doesn't appeal to me, but all the reasoning can't actually explain why. I just don't like it - and that's a fact. So which Aquostic album is it that you prefer ?

A2 is more imaginative to me and has the deeper cuts.
Do i *really* like it though? No.

One would have been enough. A1 was a new concept for Quo which caught the public imagination, while A2 was just more of the same (although it's version of Dear John improved the original IMO). After years of Quo fans suggesting an acoustic album would be great, it turns out that, maybe they didn't really want one after all. An itch scratched, as someone said about something else... Anyway , A1 for me, which i really like

Can't say at the moment. Tough decision. Not a big fan of either, but I gravitate a bit towards A2.

The first one wins hands down for me.
There was a novelty factor about it being truely different.
There was a great build up with the chat about the cover in the media long before it’s release.
There was as the whole buzz of the Roundhouse gig and it’s live broadcast in red button and radio 2.
And I loved the sense of “ how will these tracks sound?”.
I love And It’s Better Now - I never cared for it on Hello.
All the pieces fell into place.
For the second one, all the buzz had gone. And somehow it lost its charm.

Can’t say I ever play either anymore but the first was better.
As others have said....one was enough.

I actually listened to the second album fairly recently and it was better than I remembered. The new songs were nothing to write home about - a bit non-descript really - but there was still some good stuff on there. For example, for me, Lover Of The Human Race, Little Dreamer and A Mess Of Blues (in particular!) were better than the originals. And That's A Fact and Hold You Back were superb. But the first album had that extra spark; some real magic. There have obviously been whispers about the difficulties in recording the second album and I think it came across. It lacked enthusiasm and any sort of edge. So it's …. Stripped Bare for me. I actually think it's a wonderful album, especially the first half and a bit more. Only one thing missing from both - In My Chair!! It was crying out for an acoustic version.

I completely agree with you, In My Chair would've been great especially seeing Francis perform it on his talky shows. I liked both albums and they both have their fair share of duff songs, the songs on Stripped bare I don't think they should have done, but I get they had to though were 'Caroline' I would've just done the shuffle version and not switch it back halfway through, Rockin' and whatever you want, enough said lol, Burning Bridges on this was just crap in my opinion. Aquostic 2? the new songs didn't really hit the right note with me although I do quite like 'One Of Everything', Ricks voice on Ice in the Sun was just awful which is a shame. But I know it's controversial but I did live the new version of Roll Over Lay Down and In The Army Now and I've always loved 'Lover of the Human Race'

Time to move this to the Past Cups .. Obviously we have a new Quo album in the meantime, but nothing to set it up against. So we shall continue with the winners and Backbone gets a pass. flawed and frozenhero - I've just recently seen an interview about the making of A1 and in it Rick says it's the tempo changes in Carolines he loves about it. Gotta say, I agree with him. Inevitably puts a smile on my face every time I listen to it, just like the start of a regular Quo gig.

I think I'd mind it less if the song was done with more power, but as it's recorded, it just sounds like a thinned out version of the live arrangement...
