I spotted that there is a six page feature on the Butlins 1990 gig in the current issue (15 Aug/Sep) of Rock Candy Magazine. So thought a thread that alerted people to when there are features on the band in magazines might be appreciated. Other than online, www.rockcandymag.com/ I think you can only get the magazine in WH Smith.

I'd recommend anybody who can read German to get the current issue of eclipsed, for the review and the double-page interview, but for those who can't, I've translated the relevant parts "back" to English (I've left out the bits about Andy's solo album and his involvement with Pink Floyd):
Michael Lorant: Francis, we've got 30 minutes of interview time, that means: I'll ask a question, you don't answer it, as usual, but go on talking for 28 minutes.
Francis Rossi: Then I'll skip my talk time and ask YOU a question...
ML: I'm listening.
FR: What do you think of "Backbone"? Really crappy or quite alright?
ML: Much better than most of what's been released under the name Status Quo in the last few decades. But it still doesn't have the level of the 70s Quo albums.
FR: (laughs) In the 70s I used to be more capable with other things, too. [comment from me: I assume this is one of his usual sex jokes, although it's not quite clear.]
ML: A lot does remind me of your 70s albums, though.
FR: That surprises me, since we used the newest gadgetry. You're the first to say that. Then again, you also claimed that my duet album wasn't country but rather more folky.
ML: Which it mostly is.
FR: The truth is sometimes boring.
ML: What did you enjoy most about working on "Backbone"?
FR: Working with the producer.
ML: You've produced it yourself.
Andy Bown: He was a friendly dictator.
FR: I hate having to tell people what I want. That's why I produced myself.
AB: The 70s comparison probably stems from the fact that the album doesn't sound so overloaded and overproduced, but very clear and straight.
ML: It's the first studio album with new songs without Rick Parfitt, who passed away in 2016. How does that feel?
AB: When a friend dies, it's always hard to carry on without him. But the last few years with Richie on rhythm guitar have also given us a kick up the backside.
FR: Our current drummer Leon Cave wasn't on the last album "Quid Pro Quo" yet. A lot was new for us on this album. I miss Rick on a personal level, but I'm not really sure that he, if he was still alive, would still want to play with Quo or if Quo would still exist. There had been things creeping in that weren't always good for the band. I'm not excluding myself from that at all. Because of Richie, who's a huge Rick Parfitt fan, we all had to work hard to keep up with this powerhouse.
ML: The songs come from the old songwriting team Rossi and Bob Young, but the album also has ideas by Malone and you, Andy.
AB: It's a real band album, when in fact we didn't even intend to record an album. We met in Francis' home studio and wanted to see if we could still record new ideas. From the beginning, there was a good creative atmosphere.
FR: I had hoped we'd still have an album with new songs in us. And I quickly had an idea how the whole thing should sound. The ideas by Richie or Andy fitted well with my ideas. Although I work with Bob in the traditional way: Two people are sitting in one room and developing a song together. Richie mails me his idea, I add my part to it, and after some back-and-forth a song is finished.

Well, he was asked a bit about the reissue, and about his Pink Floyd connection (eclipsed did start out as a PF fanzine, after all...). Not sure if they also reviewed the album again - I know they did it back then in 2011.

I've listened to the reissue in the meantime and while I didn't hear a PF connection, it certainly reminded me of early Bowie (Hunky Dory ..) in places.

No, I mean that Andy played with Pink Floyd on The Wall tour, The Final Cut and Roger Waters' first solo album The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. They asked him a bit about that history. He also said when Quo postponed the NTL tour in order to let him do the Wall shows, he says it was the final point where he really felt like an actual part of Quo and not just some unnecessary extra.

That's interesting, have never heard it before, certainly not at the time .. One of the reasons why it's always good to have one of the other guys interviewed as well and not just Francis. He should've asked when we're going to get an autobiography from Andy as well.

Dang. New issue of GoodTimes (German bimonthly magazine) just arrived in my mailbox and it's an eye-opener. Double page spread, Francis interview on the left, Richie on the right. Francis wants to play five new songs! (Although he claims the songs they're already playing live are "Backbone" and "Backing Off"... what the hell, Frame!!!!!! ) He also says he cannot imagine not playing Caroline, HYB, BOTE, Oriental (!) and ITAN... And once again he talks explicitly about wanting Backbone to sound less compressed than its predecessors. Apparently the boss of the label (I assume edel records, who incidentally have a notorious track record of putting out CDs compressed to death any beyond?) was astounded when he heard the tracks and said "you can hear the air in the tom-toms".
