No, not yet another dodgy cover version I decided to fill a huge gap in Mrs Mortified's education and downloaded the box set of that genius TV prog, Life On Mars. I remembered that the music was also superb throughout but I'd forgotten that Quo had a track in there. Heard it last night (episode 5 or 6 - can't remember). But how often have you EVER heard Good Thinking on telly? Apart from the obvious brilliance of the wonderful parody of 70's British cop shows, the music in it - especially in the earlier episodes - was pretty obscure. Not the artists; they were all well known. But the tracks chosen. So the Quo song wasn't Paper Plane or Caroline but a track that was an obscure B-side on a failed single! Also in there were Rat Bat Blue and Lazy by Deep Purple, Cagey Cretins by Blue Öyster Cult and The Rocker by Thin Lizzy. Amongst many others. Someone did their homework. Or they were simply an old git like me 2006 it was broadcast. I didn't appreciate it was that long ago Anyway, I thought I'd share If you've never seen the programme, it's seriously recommended.

I remember one of the episodes, where they drove on to a football pitch and in the background there was a block of flats covered in satellite dishes But as you say Mortified, an excellent series :

I never actually caught the follow-up, Ashes To Ashes, but I'll give that a go when this lot is done.

Never heard of the TV prog, so when noticing the topic title I assumed some early collaboration/connection with Bowie had surfaced.

Last night's episode gave us (amongst others) The Rock and Devil's Answer by Atomic Rooster but also See My Baby Jive by Wizzard and a couple of old Bowie songs. It's like a pub quiz trying to recognise them all! Great fun It was a very British programme and almost a one-off with a strange time-travelling (but in a coma) storyline. A detective from 2006 ends up as a detective in 1973 after being hit by a car. OK, OK. It's hard to explain in a sentence or two!

I got the complete series on DVD that was given away with the News Of The World Sunday news paper. I'll have to give them another watch. I didn't think the sequal 'Ashes to Ashes' was half as good.

Started Ashes To Ashes last night. The same but different. A policewoman is transported back to 1981. So we got Tubeway Army, Visage etc. But all recognisable hits as opposed to obscure album tracks. A lazier approach. Oh, and I'm In Love With A German Film Star by The Passions. I'd forgotten all about that one! And now everyone has shades as opposed to a moustache Still some great one-liners in it.
