This was their only UK appearance on this their 50th anniversary. And they ROCKED! Complete with furry guitars! They played about 90-100 minutes (not dissimilar to Quo), and were certainly good for it, but another couple wouldn't have hurt. No guest appearances :-( but Jeff Beck got his name dropped in there somewhere. A guset appearance by him could have been quite interesting. I was on the south side, high up but close enough not to have to rely on video screens to see the band. I could see Frank Beard hitting drums and symbols, and the sound was a split second later. SET LIST
1. Got Me Under Pressure 2. I Thank You (Sam & Dave cover) 3. Waitin' for the Bus 4. Jesus Just Left Chicago 5. Gimme All Your Lovin' 6. Pearl Necklace 7. I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide 8. I Gotsta Get Paid 9. My Head's in Mississippi 10. Sixteen Tons (Merle Travis cover) 11. Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers 12. Just Got Paid 13. Sharp Dressed Man 14. Legs Encore: 1. La Grange 2. Tush Encore 2: 1. Jailhouse Rock (Elvis Presley cover)

Great stuff. I haven't seen ZZ Top since 1983 (the only time that I can recall them coming to Scotland) but been a fan for decades. Nice balanced set that. The old and the relatively new. Jeff Beck has made an appearance with them before, playing on Sixteen Tons which might have been what they were referring to. Pity he wasn't there as well. An artist I'd love to see live. ZZ Top will be a bit like Quo. A case of catch them while you still can!

Exactly the same setlist as on all the other gigs - including the Bietigheim gig I went to.
And they use backing tracks, not just percussion and synths, but at least 1/3 or Billy's vocals are not sung live at all.
I'm not saying it's bad but it could be better. The band seem content with what they're doing.

Oh No! I never knew Truly the end of an era. ZZ Top have remained the same trio since they started back in the 60's. This is up there with Bon Scott, Alex Harvey and even Rick Parfitt for me. Awful.

It was a gut punch for sure. He had to leave the tour because of a medical problem (and didn't look well in clips from his last gig) but I didn't expect him to just go and die

This is so sad - I was constantly looking for dates to try and see them in recent years. Sadly it wasn't to be and now, never will be.

Yeah, I know how I felt about Quo's future when Rick died. Quo was officially over in my mind. And look where we are now! Still, it sounds like a very hard proposition. By the way, Dusty was just ten days older than Francis is.

RIP Dusty, another good one gone.
Bloody frightening when members of the bands you grew up with start to pass.

I say i saw them…. wedged so tightly into the bar by bodies i only caught glimpses now & again. On the plus side, getting a beer wasnt an issue…& they sounded brilliant ! RIP Dusty…

RIP Dusty, another good one gone. Bloody frightening when members of the bands you grew up with start to pass. It's been happening with increasing regularity for a few years now. Before, if someone passed in the music business, it was an unusual event. Bon Scott, Phil Lynott etc. etc. Now it's a regular occurrence simply by virtue of the passage of time. There's barely a band left that I liked in the 70's where everyone is still alive! In fact, off the top off my head, I think Judas Priest might be the only one. And, even then, I think Glenn Tipton has MS.

Didn't like any of them so they were never considered I couldn't actually tell you the full line ups of either Genesis or Supertramp. Actually, Supertramp were OK. I liked one or two singles along the way and the Crime of the Century album was half decent but I wouldn't have called myself a fan.
