The guitar hook was stolen straight out of George Harrison's "I Want To Tell You" Beatles song.

It certainly was. The closing bars are a straight copy The song has always been credited to Alan Lancaster but it's actually a cover of an old Spirit song from 1969. This one: I presume it was written by Randy California although I'm not 100% certain about that. Whoever wrote it, it's a great track.

Credits with Quo aren't always reliable. Apart from the all band members credits there's obviously more Rossi/Young tunes credited to the others - as an example Francis mentions Softer Ride in the book .. And I remember the discussions on the old mb when members wouldn't believe that Pip Williams had actually written Bad Company as Alan claimed it was his, till Pip explained he still had the demos for proof. (The Alan remembers everything correct while everybody else is wrong phenomenon stroke again ) Now the song - Time To Fly - is stuck in my head ..

snakelady, I can fully appreciate songs being allocated round or the actual writers maybe being mixed up a bit but this is a song written and recorded by an entirely different band! I suspect it's down to the old music publishers or their old label just getting it wrong. Given that Spirit were American I'm surprised there hasn't been a law suit along the line somewhere. The track was unreleased and first appeared on the Fresh Quota 10" mini album in 1981 and seems to have been dragged from the vaults by PYE Records (or PRT they might have become by then). A couple of the recordings on it were so rare the album actually charted in the UK. I think Quo make a great job of it. It suits Francis's vocals at the time to a 'T'.

I knew we couldn't agree on a Quo tune. It's actually this Time (For Me) To Fly that's going round in my head (I've listened to the record last night) and you'll hate it :

The sort you get on all manner of compilations when Mother's Day comes round
