I'm off to see the the spoken tour on Saturday without really knowing what to expect. I've puposly avioded the threads. I've got thinking recently about which Francis will turn up. He often talks about 'being him' when he is on stage (with the band) - the 'cocky so un so' and I think in interveiws he may be more the 'normal' him who perhaps tries a bit too hard to say things to be a bit controversal. He doesn't seem as genuinely funny as he is when he's 'being him'.So, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens - I hope he is on good form :-)

I have read a few reviews so I have an idea of what to expect, which probably isn't that far removed from what I thought before reading them. I'm looking forward to it. Really hope you enjoy it, looking forward to reading your report P.S. Please don't be surprised or offended if there are a few 'older' folk in attendance. Quo began back in the 60's so it's kinda understandable. You're not a 'proper' fan unless you were there way back when but you're also not allowed to still be a fan if you're of an age where you were there, way back when. Confused, I know I am!

It's largely 'him'. That Francis Rossi alter ego that you get on stage but, to be fair, he does talk seriously about a number of things (interesting take on Live Aid for example). Although not really in any depth.
It's strange and something I've never noticed before but there was a sort of shyness about him. When he was walking off stage, for example, he did so as if he had taken off the mask or the actor's make-up. He just slipped away barely noticing the standing ovation he got. But he's been in the business, more or less at the top, for over 50 years. He's seen it all. He was the same once he'd signed the last book. He stood up and walked off quietly while they all tidied up. Dare I say it, he even looked a little vulnerable without his bandmates round him to bounce off.
That's just an observation that could be way off the mark. That's the thing with the 'real' Francis. We just don't know. And how he likes it I have no doubt.

If you're talking about the book he wrote with Rick... then as I looked after them both on that tour I can tell you Francis hated doing the signings and Rick loved them. Francis just wanted to get to the venue for that nights gig and do some excercises whilst Rick more than likely wanted a nap after the excesive drinking the previous evening.

I was actually talking about the final book of the signing session at the theatre after the show but I think you've confirmed what I've always suspected; that he doesn't like the mingling with the fans thing. But also appreciates that it's part of the job. He's also very good at it and is able to 'front' it out. Respect for that.

Cool that sounds good. Really looking forward to it now. I don't think Francis has come across to well on the couple of times I've heard him. He does be able to switch to his alter ego quite easily. The banter on stage is usually good fun. I'll review the show and maybe the book and the album and maybe even the Bonnie Tyler duet next week. Ok. I'll do the duet now - in the two 2 tracks on the album. Some of it is dire though (imvho).

Looking forward to your review(s) - Enjoy the show mortified - He's utterly professional, so would want to keep his routine to give the fans a good show. And I don't think it's mingling with the fans he doesn't enjoy, but rather the fact that he can't be himself when he's with the fans. He's too different compared to their vast majority though and if you've got to act for too long it becomes exhausting.
