Went to Newcastle last night to see the very superb UFO, who have often been "my other band" throughout my musical journey (said a pretentious ****).
Their tours for the last ten years or so have had a happy habit of having two UK legs, usually about a year apart.
So it was with touch of a heavy heart, and hope of another day, that I saw them last night. Tight, loud and with a great set-list. Six or seven " songs that they have to play" but we got Makin' Moves, We Belong To The Night, Venus and a couple of tracks from recent albums and over tracks have gone in and out of the set-list over the tour.
They are using two openers, Let It Roll and Mother Mary, so you don't know the set from the start.
It's a great idea. Someone else ought to try it.
I hope I get another chance seem them.
Class act.

We are of one mind I think. They've always been there tucked just in behind Quo as a favourite band. Along with one or two others of course. Was this Phil Mogg's swansong? Is he still there? I know he'd said he was jacking it in. I saw them in Edinburgh about 2½ years ago. I suspect I won't see them again. They were superb - as always. I can't recall the set now but I do remember Makin' Moves because I wasn't expecting it. Long Gone was in there as well. I remember explaining to Mrs Mortified - who knew nothing whatsoever about them - that Rock Bottom was their Forty Five Hundred Times and Doctor Doctor was their Rockin'. Just to try and give it some context I even remember how I discovered UFO as a teenager. Very prominent adverts for Phenomenon in the music papers. It had a striking album sleeve - as did most UFO records. And Alan Freeman playing Rock Bottom once on his Saturday afternoon radio show. I was hooked. I even bought a No Heavy Petting t-shirt at that last gig. It's never off my back. Thank you for stirring the memories

Went to see them at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh last Friday night, a very good gig, Mogg is still in good voice, though he certainly isn’t running around the stage these days. Most of that was left to the younger bass player, who had some really cool trousers I thought. I’d like to know where he gets them, as I certainly never see them in either Sainsbury’s Tu range or George at Asda ...
Played all their famous tunes and a sprinkling of more obscure stuff. Was disappointed that they played Venus from the Walk on Water album as they have done it the previous two or three times I’ve seen them, and it is such a good album, would love to have heard one of the other tracks from it.
At the end of the gig Phill Mogg went and rang the pub bell that they had on top of one of the amps, and so that was last orders for them in Edinburgh. But I’ve still got the CDs to enjoy their music in the future.

How did I miss that? I'll be honest, I haven't been hugely impressed by their last 3 albums ( Seven Deadly, A Conspiracy of Stars and especially The Salentino Cuts) but everything before that with Schenker and Vinnie Moore I've loved. Phil Mogg's voice has barely changed in 45 years! He's certainly not packing it in because he can't sing anymore

Shame you missed it, was a good gig, sold out as well.
I also went to the gig they played their in 2016 and saw Schenker there that year as well. Currently it appears to be the best venue for gigs in Edinburgh.
