So here's the at the time much celebrated Heavy Traffic. Shouldn't be too difficult to turn that into an 8-track vinyl, I suppose - numerous very good tunes on it, but definitely some fillers as well. We shall see if we can agree which is which. Participation could still be better, but obviously some still have difficulties with the number 8. As in not 6, 7 or any other number. And if you merely like 2 and can't stand the rest, point blindly, throw a dart .. but somehow find 6 more fillers ( col, .. ) So come on, give us your essential HT !

That was actually easy. Money Don't Matter might be a master piece though, but as it's not included on my album version, I've never heard it. Just a shame I had to leave out Green.

The first 7 tracks plus Rhythm of Life does it for me. The rest of the self penned material would have been good b-sides while I wouldn't have ever released JSD.

I found this one quite difficult because the only track I'm not keen on is I Don't Remember Anymore. The remaining 13 songs I either like or I love! A renaissance of an album for Quo. And for many of us. Their popularity took off again (not that it had waned that much) and the tour was outstanding. They rode that wave right through the rest of the noughties and beyond. I know that we're all fed up with The Oriental and Creepin' now but at the time they were part of a seriously good album that got good promotion and re-established airplay on the radio. The title track was played during afternoon drive time slots extensively but no decision was taken to release it as a single. An opportunity lost in my view. I juggled between Green and Jam Side Down. I plumped for Green but there wasn't much in it. A passing mention about The Madness which will hopefully appear on any future deluxe version. A brilliant track that I still love to this day. It has hints of both Kylie and The Beachboys. Only Quo could pull that one off

Jam Side Down may have been the wrong choice of single - first single at least - but there's no denying the video is great. IMO Heavy Traffic would've been much more representative for the album and it definitely is catchy as well (why it was dropped from the set again nearly straight away is anyone's guess .. ). I'm surprised Creepin' gets that many votes though. Never could stand the song, but considering the number of songs Rick wrote for this album (or not ..), it probably couldn't be avoided to be included in the live set and then had to stay, so Rick had his share.

I actually liked Jam Side Down and could never understand why it never made it into the set. It was a reasonable hit in the UK. Their biggest for many years at the time. I never actually listed the 8 tracks for the fictitious vinyl album so here they are: The Oriental Creepin' Up On You Heavy Traffic Solid Gold Green Diggin Burt Bacharach Do It Again Another Day

Interesting that Blues and Rhythm isn't a mainstay. I always thought that was a real favourite; just not with me I do like the track but I found that Francis's little guitar interruptions, especially during the outro, get in the way of Rick's driving rhythm which, for me, is the basis of the whole track.

What I don't get is why I Don't Remember Anymore is so unpopular. It's a great little tune and the lyrics make me smile every time I hear the chorus with the TV line. Just imagine Andy behaving like that ..

One of dozens they seem to have done over the years (a la Queenie, Goodbye Baby and numerous Chuck Berry covers). Some better than others.

Actually I'm not sure any of those you've mentioned was ever meant be a parody .. Whether they're meant to be or not, I think they're largely perceived as parodies. And unquestionably influenced by Chuck Berry's style. No bad thing to be fair. I remember a comment on the official message board back in the day where someone said (in relation to Goodbye Baby) they'd out-Chucked Chuck. And I can see precisely what they meant. I find I Don't Remember Anymore to be in that vein but without Quo's usual added power and drive. Don't get me wrong, it's OK. It just doesn't make the top 8. Or the top 13 for that matter

A fantastic album, best since WYW in my opinion. Listened to it repeatedly for many weeks when it was released. In fact I haven’t listened so intense on a new album by any artist since my early teens. If I have to pick only eight I’ll go for the first six ones, Diggin’ Burt Bacharach and Rhythm of Life, but there are more favourites.
One big question: where’s the vinyl? QPQ will be released for the fourth time (original release, white vinyl, pic disc, and now blue vinyl) in april, but still no HT.... Unbelievable!

I'm only guessing here, but around the time they'd been switching record companies quite a lot, so maybe it's a question of the wrong company holding the rights ? That album would certainly improve with proper remixing as well, as these days it sounds thin and dull to me. Personally I'd insert two albums that had been great since WYW: HT's predecessor UTI, which was the returning to form album for me, plus the one brilliant album in the wilderness years - RTYD. Otherwise I loved most of HT too. What I do remember about HT is, that for once the whole mb nearly had this positive vibe and no old vs. new bickering was going on for a while. The gigs of the time were great as well and just added to the general positive and optimistic atmosphere.

Yes I agree that RTYD and UTI also are great albums, but if I would make a ranking list HT would win over them (IMO of course). Believe it or not but I didnt hear UTI until after HT! I had totally lost interest for new Quo-stuff for some years, but my interest returned in full when I first bought the Rockers Rollin 4cd box set and then HT. This also became the return for me as a concert goer. A new friend of mine who I started travel to the concerts together with kept saying that I absolutely had to check out UTI. It took him a while to convince me, but when I finally bought it I immediately realised that he was right; UTI is a great album! But still not as great as HT😁

I was putting the new FTMO away this morning and the Heavy Traffic issue was sitting on the top of the rest. So I picked it up and had a browse at the pages where the band go through the tracks one by one. Quite interesting reading. Rhino says that the demo of Green is fantastic and much better than the final version. He also mentions the Francis song I Cried which morphed into the title track. I'd forgotten about that. I agree with snakelady though. It's just about the only album that hasn't been given the vinyl treatment. None of those around that time have when I think about it ( Famous...., Heavy Traffic, Riffs). Presumably Universal don't have enough albums to put in a box set. Under The Influence came out on vinyl on it's own a couple of years back but that was Eagle Records as I recall. But Heavy Traffic is an obvious stand-out for another release. Remastering is a given. Has been for a while.

If I recall correctly, those few albums are not on the same sublabel as the previous ones. That's also why, I was told, a deluxe edition is a bit unlikely. As much as I'd want one.
