Not to Winchester, no. That's like the Azores from this far north Troon remains a possibility, although maybe a little in doubt due to family circumstances. It will be a blast, I promise.

I did see him there a cpl yrs ago and it was great, he had his 2 sons in the band then. They were a great band. My brother is coming and it’s his first time, he’s looking forward to it. Hope you get to go Morty old bean .. 🙂🙂

Interesting venue The Railway in Winchester, I saw Rhino there a couple of years ago before his RR2 album came out and its basically a room above a pub. The pub is nice but I'm not too keen on the live music room, it holds about 120 people but there was probably about 90 max in there on Saturday.
He has a great band for a 3 piece, they are all top class players who seem to get on very well and are having alot of fun. Rhino actually used the word "Fun" a few times throughout the evening as it isn't a slick and polished set like the Quo do, he had a set list by his side and picked it up to decide what to do next. Which gave it an air of being very loose and spontaneous, which was refreshing.
He played a good mix of songs mainly from his 2nd album, things like Secretary, My Name Is Stan, One Note Blues and Busy Doin Nothin, with only a couple form his 1st album. Mixed in were quite a few Quo tracks, like Gravy Train, Bad News, Belavista Man and Lucinda, he also played Quo covered tracks like Born to be Wild, Once Bitten Twice Shy and Old Time Rock n Roll.
They also played a couple of Beatles tracks in Obla Di Obla Da and Back in the USSR. He did struggle at times with his voice and Jim the guitarist also sang lead on 1 or 2 songs ( I can't remember) as he said he was trying to rest his voice.
There was a new track played twice called "Your never to Old to Rock and Roll", basically because they played it mid way through the set and it went down really well due to "lead and respond" chorus, he then decided to repeat it at the end as the crowd wanted more and they'd basically ran out of songs. Its a typical Rhino song really and is very catchy
After they had finished he walked straight into the crowd and spent ages having selfies taken and signing things for people, I was trying to have a chat but didn't as I couldn't stick around too long and there was a long que to see him.
It was a great night, my brother travelled 200 miles to see him and he said it was worth it, he wasn't the longest travelled person there as some people had travelled from Belgium and I think from their reaction they enjoyed it.
I thinks its a shame he isn't playing to more people really as its a great night out and we know he isn't the best vocalist, but they are a great band playing good time Rock n Roll and clearly loving it.
Sorry for my ramblings, but I hope you get the idea of the evening.

Be good to hear the new song. Haven't heard that. I've never heard him do Once Bitten Twice Shy either. The rest, apart from the Beatles songs, is standard Rhino fare. Always great value. Ta for the report

Thanks for the detailed report (I do enjoy reading them too ) - sounds like you had a great time The Quo covers aren't exactly my cup of of tea and somehow it seems they're all keen on OTRR. I don't quite get what they see in that song I travelled to Scotland for Francis' solo gig, so I can understand why they'd travel from Belgium. Going by your report it was worth it. That girl who put up the video has numerous good Quo-related videos up and obviously follows them a lot too (think she's not British either).

Actually, it was in the Quo set for quite a while in the early 2000's. I don't mind it that much. Put it this way, compared to most other tracks on Famous In The Last Century....

Yep, he did play it on both his solo tours. It gave all three guitarists the chance to do a little guitar solo. The only song he dropped was Here I Go, Paul Hirsh's favourite. Till this report I wasn't aware Rhino likes it as well. Andy never toured his solo album the way Rhino and Francis have done. Strange when you think about it .. (would he have included it as well I wonder ).

I like Bob Seger's original. Francis singing it sounds lame to me... especially when it gets to "funky soul", nothing funky about the delivery at all!

I also meant to mention how fit and well Rhino looks. Not that it's that important but he looks 10 years younger (and more) than he did 10 years ago! If that's what giving up wine does to you (or cutting down) I'm jumping on his wagon

He hasn't given up the wine though, as he called out twice for a glass in the 2nd half of the set. With the 2nd glass the guy from behind the bar left the bottle with him.
