So here's the last studio album with all new tracks (apart from the inevitable and superfluous CD2, which seems to have become standard in recent years). This topic is about negatives, so the film needs mentioning .. And if you think the English version is bad, the German synchronisation is even worse. Imagine them talking with very different voices, Laurel and Hardy style. If you merely look at the CD though and forget about the film, there's surprisingly little that is negative IMO. It's not too long, so no filler tracks, has a lot of variety from rock to pop to ballad to ska even and most of it good to brilliant. Only real negative for me is Rick trying to be Harry Belafonte. Both Rossi/Young tracks are merely average, and the nod to RAOTW at the end of GoGoGo is unnecessary, but otherwise I lala like it .

I completely agree with snakelady. The only real turkey is Mystery Island. Rick's very own Tommy's In Love And the Rossi/Young tracks are probably the next weakest, although both more listenable. The movie? One of the worst ever. Totally - and very bizarrely - out of fashion by about 45 years. I remember going to see Carry On Up The Jungle with a schoolmate back in whenever it was (1970 maybe?) and it was very like that. Even the opening scene was weirdly reminiscent of it! It is by far and away the worst thing Quo have ever been involved in. Artistically anyway. Completely and utterly pointless. But, as we all suspected at the time, there were possibly financial incentives for doing it provided by a grateful Fiji government media department Someone once said money don't matter. Evidently it does.

I had a listen yesterday for the first time since it was released and I have to say it's lots stronger than I remembered! The only song I find a bit weak is Never Leave a Friend Behind. I'll probably get slaughtered for this but I think Mystery Island is quite good (in some corny way), I feel I can tell that Rick really liked it as well. Never seen the film, and by judging from all comments and reviews I've read it looks that I haven't missed anything😊

Second weakest song for me, though by some distance. It's funny because the first time I heard this track it was music only. No singing. And I rather liked the melody! I almost put a grass skirt on I don't know why there was no singing but the very first time I heard it, I was listening on my Kindle Fire via Amazon to see what it was like. I've never been able to repeat the experience. But it's much more recommended than the album/single version

I think the album is really good, apart from the god awful Mystery Island. If they had done the album and not the film and perhaps not released the titla track as the first single (I like it but I can see how the intro would instantly put people off).
GoGoGo, Run and Hide and the incredibly infectious Fiji Time (this would have been a great summer time single) are my favourite tracks.

DJ's saying as they introduced it, " you will never guess who this is".... And unless someone actually knew, they'd have been right.

Yep, shame about Fiji Time - a wasted opportunity IMO. That rhythm just grabs you .. It has just occurred to me that my two favourite tunes from the album have been written by Rhino - Fiji Time and Run And Hide. :oo: Usually it's the other way round - see ISOTFC .. Maybe he's the one whose songwriting suffers the most when he thinks he has to write something suitable for Quo, trying to appeal to the rocker fans ?

Participation could be better .. a lot better !
Got to say though from what can be derived so far that MI is indeed the one weak song from the album, but on the other hand - nearly half of those who've voted don't skip it, obviously.

Obviously nobody else is going to vote on this .. So it's time to move it to the past cups and put up the next one. Considering the speed these polls have, by the time we're through with A2 the new Quo album will probably have been released.

Imagine them talking with very different voices, Laurel and Hardy style. Yeah, I quickly switched to the English original audio plus subtitles. No need for somebody synchronising Francis and Rick...
