Unbelievable. A band with the stature off Quo playing support in the UK, it’s degrading!!! It must be a big pay day ....Back in 86 as special guests to Queen was exceptable & the co headlining shows with Rod Stewart were really good, not Lynryd Skynnrd though, they’ve only had moderate success here & are not an house hold name. Maybe this is where Rossi’s Quo are in 2018.....any means to top their pensions up!!!

It would be interesting to get some info from the band's management as to why Quo are supporting in the UK? Skynyrd aren't a big band here so while the combination of the 2 bands is sound, the headline/support thing just seems arse about face.

WTF??
The only thing I can think on this is that they are trying to win over the rock audience with the new band. But it should at least be a double header like they did with Purple in Australia.
Oh and it probably pays well too..

Tell everyone that they're still here. But Lynyrd Skynyrd? Really?

It's a business decision? Their audience demographics are most likely very similar?
The only difference might be that Skynyrd have been a self-proclaimed tribute act since 1987. They're legends worldwide, although one of the reasons for that is very unfortunate. There's only 4 gigs in the UK. Their management are aware they're no longer "a big band here".
And it does say "With Special Guest..." It's a special gig for Skynyrd. Not sure i see the problem here. I probably won't go once i see the ticket price, but it's a great double bill IMO. Especially if you like nostalgia.

I actually got a text about this from my sister as I was fighting my way across London yesterday (long, dull story). She was asking if I was interested. I came home to the official e-mail from FTMO. It does seems an odd one. Quo as support in the UK to a band who are hardly in the same category popularity wise. This isn't Alabama So we have to assume that the pay day is a good one. Easy money if you like. The Glasgow venue is also huge. Way too large for Skynyrd I'd have thought. But maybe I'm underestimating their pull. Anyway, the tickets aren't wildly expensive so I'm mulling it over. And I've never seen Skynyrd, although I'm not a massive fan.

It's a 'farewell tour' - they tend to sell far better than standard tours, especially with acts that don't tour frequently. Just so that people can say I've seen them .. Maybe it's the fact Quo merely have to play for an hour or even less and for the same money as usual ? They still shouldn't do it and I'd not go to any of these gigs either.

Back in work today after a long weekend away. Just realised the picture I posted in my original post showing the gig dates doesn't appear on the laptop, but shows fine when viewed via my mobile, apologies for any confusion!
I'm very much a casual when it comes to Skynyrd but I think 'Freebird' and 'Sweet Home Alabama' are epic songs, no doubt I'll enjoy most of the rest. I'm not really fussed who supports who, it's a chance to see two great bands in one evening, that'll do for me.
In a bizarre twist though we're seeing the Eagles in Manchester on 26 June, Quo/Skynyrd in Manchester on 27 June and Westlife in Manchester on 28 June. Me thinks we'll be looking at a short vacation in Manchester for those few days.

The negotiation around attending the Quo/Skynyrd gig involved me agreeing to going to see.............. The Spice Girls!I kid you not. Oh and have a guess as to what month in 2019 they're playing the Etihad, in Manchester........? Couldn't make it up

Yeah, sis did say that available tickets were very good. She even saw front row earlier this morning. The irony of that when comparing it with a Quo seated tour is not lost on either of us! Different management, different promoter, less fleecing evidently.

Yeah, I hate when Quo do the ticketmaster platinum thing.
I don’t think they benefit as a band as I’m sure they will be offered a fee for a tour and they will get it no matter how many or what tickets are sold

I'm kinda surprised that Lynyrd Shynyrd are not more popular with Quo fans - personally I do like the older stuff at least! Check out the Pronounced.... album! It seems there is only one original member there as well! I can kinda see it might be seen as a come down for Quo, but would have thought it will make a good night... They've fixed it now but yesterday, the days of the week for the shows was wrong on the Quo site - I think it was Tuesday 30th June for the Brum gig instead of the Sunday!!

I've only ever owned one album and that was Second Helping but I think I just seem to like my 'Southern' rock in very small doses. I think they first came to prominence over here supporting Golden Earring around 1974. Although film of a festival appearance of them doing Freebird on the "Old Grey Whistle Test" back in the mid-70's didn't do them any harm. I remember that well and it made me check them out. I don't see this as a come down for Quo particularly. It just seems an odd thing to do given their vintage and popularity. Having said that, I for one have been clamouring for the sort of rock packages they tend to get on mainland Europe so maybe things like this will be more regular in the UK from now on.

I think the issue is that Quo are not co- headlining, they are special guests of a band who aren’t more popular than them in the UK- it sends out a negative message I feel.
A tour where they got equal billing would have been different in terms of prevention and also length of set.
It looks like a comedown as up until two years ago, Quo were pulling in around 5000 at the Hydro as the headline act.
That saids, shoild he a decent night out !

2 years ago someone Very important was only temporarily absent from the band at the time, would they get 5000 in their current state?...

In retrospect, these large venues have probably been chosen because of the 'package'. Is that Birmingham venue the same one as it always is? Does it just keep changing it's name? In other words, is it the old NEC? I lose track! I can't tell my Motorpoints from my Barclaycards anymore

Yeah - it's the NEC!
