For the first time in ages I've been listening to both albums tonight one after the other.
Prior to it I had thought they were both very good with Fourth Chord just slightly ahead because of its greater diversity.
I was wrong. Fourth Chord is much better, not only because it's more diverse, but because it's a lot more creative too. And while QPQ is good, the solos, the little arrangement bits, the sound .. all speak in favour of ISOTFC and make it a great album IMO. I had forgotten how much I enjoy it !
So I thought I'd start this very simple poll to see what you think.

This is trickier than I thought. I'd have said in the past Quid Pro Quo without really thinking. I'd still pick that one but it's a closer run thing than I expected. I think two things swing it for me; the production and the sheer consistency of the first 10 tracks on Quid Pro Quo, which is almost unrivalled by ANY Quo album. Don't get me wrong, Pip's production is good. I just find it a little too fussy and multi-layered in places for the Quo that I like to hear. And Fourth Chord has Electric Arena, Saddling Up and Tongue Tied.
I rest my case

Yes, 3x big plus and one of the reasons it is better - so wonderful diversified I rest my case ..

ISOTFC for me. Great mix of songs. Personally I love Saddlin' Up and also the chilled out vibe of Electric Arena. Pennsylvania Blues is excellent as is Beginning of the End.

Still listen to QPQ occasionally & genuinely love some of the tracks. ISOTFC hasn't been near the stereo in the last few years.

I have to give them equal ranking because today I might prefer one and tomorrow the other. My choices are not fixed in stone but vary with my mood and circumstances. Both very good albums worth repeated listens.

I also voted "both", although if I had to choose I'd gravitate a bit more towards ISOTFC. Composition-wise, I think the differences are marginal except for Rick being a bit more present on QPQ. ISOTFC does have better production, although both are too compressed, at least on CD.

Interesting .. merely 10 votes might not be representative though.

Interesting .. merely 10 votes might not be representative though. That's practically a full turnout landslide on here

Every once in a while I dig out ISOTFC and hope it grows on me but it never does..much prefer TPAOY or Under The Influence.
QPQ would win for me.
It seems a lot of folk really rate ISOTFC so I get frustrated that I can't rave over it..just feel they had run out of petrol and were trying some different ideas here and there that didn't come off.
Still if we all liked the same things it would be a boring old world.

I like both albums but I think Fourth Chord has more good songs on it than Quid Pro Quo, My Little Heartbreaker is a personal favourite.

So, I voted a while ago, but thought I'd share my reason, and for that I had revisit the albums again as I forgotten the reason I love all the albums since Under The Influence, they've been pretty consistent since then, I remember first listening to fourth chord, and I loved the production and creativity on the album, they sounded fresh and younger than they were, with the Quid album, I found the solos were more creative, not your typical Francis thing, which had balls. so I base my decision on how many (in my view as everyones is different) outstanding songs are on them, and for me Fourth Chord has 8 and Quid has 6, but both only have one song I skip every time (saddling up and any way you like it)

The first three songs plus 'Moving On' are about 7/10 to 9/10. All the other songs are below 5/10 to me.
ISOTFC are a more diverse album with all sorts of songs and musical directions and have a much better evenness.
