Well I have never really rated the album that much, but this and Back to Back seemed to have the most interesting bonus material. Knowing it was mainly rehearsal stuff I though this would be a good listen, but WTF!! for the most part it is torturous. The only good parts are when they mess about with their own material such as Dustpipe. This will now be put on the shelf to gather dust.

It's the rehearsal material we got on CD a few years ago I assume ? Rick singing Babyface and suchlike stuff with WSOL the outstanding tune ?

Well that is something that I have been looking forward to checking out as I haven't heard any of it before. I suppose now if I am going in with low expectations then I might be pleasantly surprised ... Be a while before I get it though, not wishing to purchase the album again, I've put it on my Christmas list ...

The rehearsal material has a novelty value only. It's not the sort of thing to listen to if you're wanting to put some music on. Actually, rehearsing is too organised a word for it. They were just larking about. Not one of those 'rehearsed' made it into the set back then. There was no medley remember.
I'm presuming they had very little else to put on a deluxe version of the album. A live set has already been released in the shape of the deluxe NEC issue. Another one would have been pretty pointless.

Be a while before I get it though, not wishing to purchase the album again, I've put it on my Christmas list ... It's like mortified says. Nothing to do with rehearsals, the band just messes around - well, Rick and Francis do, none of the others ever as much as utters a word. What's it supposed to be is anyone's guess. I'm not a musician, but I doubt there's any musical sense in this. It's certainly entertaining to listen to, at least in parts .. the band wasting away studio time IMO. Someone once speculated it was done so the new boy Pete got to know them better - but nobody ever talks to him or even mentions him. We don't know exactly when it was recorded either. 1982 seems wrong though .. They had better concentrated on the album(s) at hand and maybe it(they) wouldn't have turned out that awful.

Where they mess around with their own material it sounds pretty good in places but the rest, while not expecting it to be top notch, is still pretty bad. I agree with Mortified though that it is certainly better than having another concert recording.

Arguably, it's worth it for Francis calling out the key changes of "Stay The Night" to Alan as they rehearse it, and you're left thinking, what a load of tedious drivel. Funny though, in a morbid kind of way.

There is something about Francisโs solo in Unspoken Words that sounds absolutely fantastic to my ears, sounds full of, dare I say, soul..:-) The really heavy part of Umleitung is ๐๐๐๐๐

It is my 2nd favourite Quo bootleg (after the 1973 BBC live concert).

I don't have this deluxe album, but I've heard the rehersals and I do find parts of them very entertaining! I've always assumed they were for Pete Kirchers benefit so '82 would make sense. There are a number of times where Francis will say something like "He's got it" which I've assumed were directed towards Pete. I'm surprised we don't know when they were recorded!! Obviously at least Francis and Rick 'were in good moods' ;-) but I like the bits of Rick not being able to get through Baby Face for example. I like Ebony Eyes (which a band called Fumble did a good version of). As mentioned the chord changes for Through The Night are interesting - I haven't counted them but I believe there are more than 3 chords in there!! ;-) On the flip side though there are parts that are a bit cringe worthy. On the whole though it sounds like a bunch of blokes having a laugh!!

The 2 CD bootleg from 2009 says on the cover that the recordings were from the band's rehearsal sessions at Fair Deal Studios, Brixton, London in March 1982

The 2 CD bootleg from 2009 says on the cover that the recordings were from the band's rehearsal sessions at Fair Deal Studios, Brixton, London in March 1982 And that's wrong... A band would not waste time or money going to rehearse for an hour or so playing songs that aren't in the set. I highly doubt that Marguerita Time and Stay The Night were that developed in early '82 either Cheers

But many of the tracks are simply listed as " Jam Session I, II, IV...." etc. I can't remember what these include. And I'm reluctant to put myself through it again just to find out It sounds like the same session to me. I just think they've maybe been selective with the deluxe release in terms of what they put on it. The only bone of contention is whether or not it actually was - as it says on the bootleg - " 1982 Tour Rehearsals". Probably not. Although Jennifer Warnes' I'm Restless (to give it it's proper title) was recorded and released in 1979. But the inclusion of Stay The Night suggests a pre- Back To Back drug-infused jam. I don't have any of these 4 new deluxe editions yet. Too busy and too skint to go get them. But soon. Definitely soon.

It is the same recording, Universal Music just purposely edited out the embarrassing recordings like 'Baby Face' and 'Restless'.

The band have mentioned plenty of times that they were far too relaxed to be recording an album

But it has never been dated officially and till that happens we can assume it makes the most sense, but don't know for sure. The band has wasted a lot of studio time during those years and I doubt they'd remember much about it. Btw. Nobody has mentioned the choice of songs they played other than their own stuff. Don't you think the choice of songs the guys played when feeling completely relaxed and unobserved does tell us a bit about their musical preferences and if they really were 'rockers at heart' ?

Well, since I'm one of those (partially) responsible for how the release turned out, let me say a few things too... Not one of those 'rehearsed' made it into the set back then. There was no medley remember. Yet, several of the tunes would make it into the Anniversary Waltz several years later... I'm presuming they had very little else to put on a deluxe version of the album. A live set has already been released in the shape of the deluxe NEC issue. Another one would have been pretty pointless. Well, yes, that was the thinking behind it. Now I have to add: it was me who mentioned the rehearsal tapes, but I did not insist that they use them. The Glasgow gig would have been an option too. It would have meant another 3CD set though, and as you say yet another live set. However I do hope it can be released in some other context, at some point. Where they mess around with their own material it sounds pretty good in places but the rest, while not expecting it to be top notch, is still pretty bad. I agree with Mortified though that it is certainly better than having another concert recording. I personally think the first ~10 minutes or so are rather tiring, but afterwards it improves. [/quote]I enjoyed the rehearsal tapes, itโs a bit of fun just like the Hello Quo session at Shepperton. And I just like the fun element like Andy interrupting Blueberry Hill with the RAOTW intro It is the same recording, Universal Music just purposely edited out the embarrassing recordings like 'Baby Face' and 'Restless'. Also with the intention of keeping the length down to one CD. Btw. Nobody has mentioned the choice of songs they played other than their own stuff. Don't you think the choice of songs the guys played when feeling completely relaxed and unobserved does tell us a bit about their musical preferences and if they really were 'rockers at heart' ? Yes, that is something that struck me at some point. Lots of soft pop ballads and the like. Kind of shows how the whole rocker think came relatively late in their musical development and wasn't something they necessarily adhered to at the time (apart from on stage).
