But not that surprising. Quo are taking part in those 80's retro festivals now ("Rewind" this summer for example). It's obviously a lucrative market for them and a falling off a log job with a shortened hit-filled set. Good luck to them. I couldn't stand/sit through a lot of what comes on before them. Tom Bailey has just released a terrific new solo album but being billed as "Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey" pretty much sums up the ethos needed to get the right attention and sell tickets for these things. Black Lace's Conga Party? Oh goodie

Very 80s indeed - obviously there are a lot of promoters around these days who got into Quo during the 80s and equalise them with ITAN.

I would hate to be one of the technical crew on these kind of festivals. My ears would commit suicide.

The thing is, there was some good stuff in the 80's. Unfortunately, these festivals seem to be mainly made up of one hit wonders. Although I appreciate not exclusively. But I mean, what else are Chesney Hawkes or Betty Boo going to sing? It's just an observation but Quo seem to be the only act doing these festivals that could undertake a successful tour in their own right. Certainly the only act that could play an arena. A real bonus for the promoters that. Do we ever see Depeche Mode, U2, Duran Duran or The Cure at these festivals? Nope, but we will get "ABC's Martin Fry", "Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley" and "The Communards Jimmy Sommerville". Quo are keeping some strange bedfellows these days.

You good argue that Quo seem as equally out of place at a heavy metal festival in Europe, but for some reason that seems acceptable to a lot of people. Musical snobbery perhaps? I was as surprised as anyone to see Quo on this type of festival but it isn't like they haven't done similar ones in recent years. One thing to remember is that there are a lot of people go to these and chances are quite a few probably liked Quo back in the day and kind of forgot about them over the years. This way the band get to remind people that they still exist, which in the end cant be a bad thing. Also from reviews of previous ones it does seem like they do go down fantastically well, so again not a bad thing. In the end it makes some sense, even if a lot of fans don't understand or don't like it. It's a big thing for these festivals to have a band like Quo top the bill.

There is an element of musical snobbery involved (especially with me coz I'm like that ). These festivals are very popular - or seem to be - and they are on the increase. For now anyway. I suppose I'd look at it differently if the line ups contained much more successful acts from the period and who still had something to offer. But any acts/bands from the 80's who are still performing and recording regularly with any degree of success simply don't appear at these things. But I suspect I'm missing the point entirely and taking it all too seriously. As usual

I bet Jimmy Somerville never thought he'd end up in bed with Francis Rossi either...
