What can I say about QPQ .. ? From today's POV it was the last studio album with new songs, but its release already seems ages ago. Well, 7 years is quite some time and so much has happened since. Imagine in the 70s Quo would've recorded Piledriver followed by a gap till WYW ! Maybe with a live and an acoustic album in between, although they'd have lacked the songs for it. Absolutely impossible back then !
I never take the CD along in the car either. There're some absolutely fantastic tunes on QPQ, but equally quite a number of songs I can't stand. Basically an album of extremes - not that many songs I'd simply consider standard or average. So the good is listened to on the computer and the bad is avoided. Thinking about it now I can't even remember the sleeve design or art work, things that had been so important once.
At the time it seemed quite strange too that the production was so fragmented. By then Rick had already moved to Spain with his young family and recording as a band obviously suffered in consequence. Not everybody may have played on every song it seems ..
As this thread is about the negatives first of all I've got to mention CD2 with the live recordings. If ever a CD was completely superfluous .. It definitely wasn't a bonus as it contained no additional value. We know why ITAN was rerecorded - good cause and maybe included on the album to boost the number of sales, but I never listen to it. Title of worst original song and by far goes to Reality Cheque. What were they thinking writing these lyrics ?!

I'll be honest, I really liked this album when it came out. The fragmented methods of recording and production have only come to light since then but I don't think it made much difference. I only ever skipped In The Army Now 2010. Over familiarity with the original is probably the main reason for that. As for it being a 'good cause', that's really a matter of opinion. An opinion not everyone shares. And turning the entire meaning of the song on it's head form the original left a bit of a sour taste. For me, there are at least two bona fide classics on the album; Two Way Traffic and Dust To Gold. Both are outstanding. There are several other very good tracks with only really The Winner and Can't See For Looking being a little under par compared to the rest. But they're still playable. Reality Cheque has always had a bit of a bad press on message boards. I'm genuinely not sure why. It has a nice, lazy blues riff and lyrics that make me smile. I have always assumed they were written by Rhino but I don't know for sure. I like it. So there Alan Crook's contribution with Any Way You Like It is excellent. There is some superb Hammond work on that by Andy. All in all, the album maintained the genuine studio quality we've had from the band since 1999. There are quite long periods between albums of new material now. I just hope the next one is as good as the last few.

There are some outstanding tracks for me on this album, but I agree with Francis and overall it too much of the same tempo. Frozen Hero, Moving On, Better Than That, Lets Rock, Dust To Gold and Two Way Traffic are as good as anything Quo have EVER done in my book. Anyway You Like It, The Winner, All About You, My Old Ways and Army 2010 are the skippers and everything else is OK. As snakelady says its incredible to think this is now 7 years old, when you think what has happened since and what they have released since. Overall a good album from me, equally as good as some of the 70's albums but not quite as good as ISOTFC.

The first new Quo album I bought after getting back into the band. I was very pleasantly surprised when I first heard it and I really like this album. I only ever skip army.
I don’t care how it was recorded, I think it’s a very good album and would be more than happy with something similar from the next offering.

.. Overall a good album from me, equally as good as some of the 70's albums but not quite as good as ISOTFC. That line about sums it up for me as well. It's certainly better than Heat actually. People tend to go on about fillers, but compared to the aforementioned IYCSTH album e.g., that definitely contained more fillers than anything else and with short albums, there's not enough left then to make more than an EP out of it as opposed to QPQ. A number of great songs on that, but it lacks the diversity of Fourth Chord. And who's voted for Frozen Hero ?! :oo:

If you cut out some of the chaff on QPQ and made it into a 10 track album, then I would argue that this is as good an album as Quo, as to me that is one of the weaker 70’s albums. (Tin hat time)

(Tin hat time) Inspired by this post of yours I've just started a new thread - and noticed the gap since the last original album isn't quite as long as I made it out to be: I had forgotten about Bula Quo in 2013.

OK, I'm gonna some pelters for this.
QPQ is an album I've only been able to listen to all the way through once, and that was very recently.
The first three songs are belters, although it took me a while to get over the opening lyrics on Two Way Traffic.
R&R&Y is more in the Quo Pop vein, but I like it, a lot.
Dust To Gold is brilliant, how to be "rock" without the "Dud-De-Duh-De-Duh", strangely Nine Inch Nails influenced.
If you had asked me about three months ago that would've be me, however I have discovered My Old Ways is listenable.
Let's Rock had the drive and the sound, however I am unable to get passed the banal, cliched, lazy lyrics. Many good tunes have been ruined this way, I tend to avoid most songs with "Rock" in the title, the Ramones Rockaway Beach being about the only exception, because that is about "Rock".
So four tracks to listen to, back to the days of an EP then.
The next album just has to be better, doesn't it?

Come on, keep voting please. Surely more than 14 members possess the album or at least know the songs ..

Beside You In Time being a case in point. I don't imagine Dust To Gold was influenced by it but you just never know. You don't know what individual members were listening to. This was a Rossi/Bown/Edwards composition. All manner of influences would have been at work.

I love this album, although I agree that a bit more sonic variety (and less of that annoying cymbal mush!) would've been better. I only voted for three original tunes; Better Than That (which sounds like a lazy ELO copy attempt), Anyway You Like It (which has some blah lyrics and just doesn't really go anywhere) and The Winner (which really doesn't sound like it was well suited for Quo). Also ITAN 2010 but that isn't really part of the 'album' in my thinking.
I like the live tracks on disc 2 but I do wish they had selected some of the more unusual tunes that were played in 2009-2010.
