I thought I'd just quickly set up the next album poll so we can move on a little further with those and there's something to discuss.
I'll add my thoughts on it later, when I've got a bit more time for it. It'll be an overwhelmingly positive comment I can already tell you though.

I hadn't played the album for a while, so my choice might change when I play it later, while watching the T20 cricket final

A good album this one, a really good album.
Sonically it reminds me of the WYW album and seems to work well as an album.
The tracks I like least are Pennsylvania Blues Tonight, Electric Arena and Gravy Train, which is nowhere as good as Rhinos' demo.
Some of the versions on the "unmixed" tracks are even better, especially I Don't Wanna Hurt You Anymore and Beginning Of The End, which are two cracking tracks.
There are three or four on this one that stand up to most of the Quo cannon.
Love it.

Unlike most, I didn't rate this album as highly as it's predecessor, although it was still very good. I have always skipped the same three tracks from the word go; Electric Arena, Saddling Up and Tongue Tied. I simply don't like any of them. Electric Arena has real potential; a potential almost realised with Francis's live version which knocks spots of the studio one. The guitar on ….Fourth Chord isn't right. Tonally I mean. It's like nails down a blackboard. Saddling Up has a half decent, bog standard blues riff at the outset but I'm really not sure about where the song goes after that. Lyrically quirky I suppose but it still doesn't give it any charm. With Tongue Tied, I just find the melody and chord progression bland. But that's me being over-analytical. It just does nothing for me as a track. Me and ballads all over really. Just how it is. Figure Of Eight is OK with Quo trying to re-create former jig glories but I wish I could skip the spoken " what could possibly go wrong?". Bit naff that The rest of the album is very good indeed with (for me) a superb trinity in the middle with the wonderful My Little Heartbreaker, You're The One For Me (sorry @inna ) and Hold Me. Three absolute crackers with Francis excelling on each one. And all three having different composers. Speaks volumes about this wonderful band. Entirely different production and arrangement wise from any other studio album during the noughties for obvious reasons. Nice variety of material throughout. Shocking sleeve

When I got back into Quo around 2010/11 I steadily downloaded all of Quo’s albums apart from the first two off iTunes.
I’d either owned or heard all the seventies stuff before as a kid so it was great to revisit these albums again.
I was pretty horrified by everything they did after NTL up to UTI, but was very pleasantly surprised by all the albums from then until QPQ.
I like this album very much and don’t skip any tracks.

Figure of Eight, hold Me and You’re the one for Me are the only ones I skip.
I like this one, but it’s not all killer. Gravy Train, Bad News, BOTE, Heartbreaker, I Don’t Wanna Hurt U, I Ain’t Wastin My Time & Pensilvania Blues are the standouts for me, with the rest somewhere in between the two groups.
If I had to choose between this and QPQ, I would always go with this album because of the light n shade on this.

Only three songs on this one that I liked enough to put them on my MP3 player for regular listening when at work or on the bus. My Little Heartbreaker, Hold Me and Sadlling Up. I did quite like, Beginning of the End, when the album was first released, but haven't played it in a long time.
I did enjoy hearing Electric Arena on Rossi's solo tour.

I like this album a lot (though it was quite a while since I listened to it lately), for me there's only one obvious skipper: I Dont Wanna Hurt You Anymore

I'm actually surprised that out of the two Rick songs Hold Me gets less votes than Alright. Yes, both choruses are relatively simple, but IMO, while Hold On isn't a bad song, Alright is the better rock song and would've gone down far better in the live set too instead of Gravy Train.

I missed this thread! Shame since this is one of my favourite Quo albums. With Tongue Tied, I just find the melody and chord progression bland. But that's me being over-analytical. It just does nothing for me as a track. Me and ballads all over really. Just how it is. Agree on Tongue Tied, disagree on the rest. The guitar intro on "Electric Arena" was one of those "wow" moments when I first heard the album (swiftly followed by the sheer aggression of "Gravy Train" and those circles of chords in "Figure of Eight" - that is actually my favourite trilogy of songs on the album). And "Saddling Up" to me only suffers from a slight arrangement mistake: They bring in the guitar solo way too early, so the rest of the track can't really develop any further. But other than that, I really enjoy it, including the priceless "cactus face" line and Francis singing much lower than usual. I'm actually surprised that out of the two Rick songs Hold Me gets less votes than Alright. Yes, both choruses are relatively simple, but IMO, while Hold On isn't a bad song, Alright is the better rock song and would've gone down far better in the live set too instead of Gravy Train. Hold On by Yes isn't a bad song, Hold On by Santana also I've recently tried playing "Alright" and I lost interest even before the first chorus, whereas "Hold Me" manages to sustain my interest. So, if I had to choose, I'd always go for "Hold Me" also because minor key rock songs aren't so typical for Quo and it has a great build-up, too. "Alright" is... alright, hence its title

Tongue Tied and Electric Arena are my favourite tracks but I think that choice is influenced by repeated viewings of the Live at St. Lukes DVD.
And the lyrics of TT resonate because I'm so old.
I'm just dreaming of a time long ago
I'm just dreaming of the past
I've been feeling that there's not long to go
Why does living go so fast?
