Well what a night that was.
I've got the albums, joined their rather nutty facebook page, and prepared myself for my first ever Ghost gig (or ritual as the rather more fanatical fans call it). I won't go into a massive review of it but I have to say it is one of the best gigs I have ever been too. Great stage set up, tight band and brilliant front man in Tobias Forge (Cardinal Copia). I left wanting more and that's really all you can ask of any gig.
Brilliant.

My stepdaughter alerted me to Ghost a while back. I think she said they are a sort of hybrid made up of members of other Swedish metal bands but they've sort of become popular by default or accident. She may be embellishing their history to give them the air of mystery they crave Believe it or not, the first thing I listened to by them was their cover of the Eurythmics' Missionary Man which is actually very good, if quite straightforward. They played Wacken this year as well. Coincidentally. From what I've seen online their merch is spectacularly good - and varied. Glad you enjoyed the gig, John. I haven't really witnessed anyone 'new' that's blown me away in a long time. I envy you!

I haven't really witnessed anyone 'new' that's blown me away in a long time. I envy you! They do throw in the odd cover version such as I'm a Marionette (Abba), It's a Sin (Pet Shop Boys) and Avalanche (Leonard Cohen). Not sure that they are a hybrid of other Swedish metal bands, but the main driving force is a guy called Tobias Forge who used to be in a few bands before Ghost. Even from up high in the top circle at the Albert Hall the show was spectacular. The are more hard rock than metal I would say, but then genre wise it doesn't really matter to me. On the latest album there is an instrumental called Miasma which I think would sit well with many a progressive rock classic.
