I didn't expect that one. A very positive review despite the setlist being all old warhorses and not even particularly long (hey, why not add some bonus tracks from other shows?).
(At the end there's also a negative remark about Down Down & Dignified, stating that one should stay away from that CD!)

I haven't watched it although Quo's performance - or at least part of it - was shown on Sky Arts here in the UK back in the summer.
They did what they did and what they always do. Play well, play the hits, go down a storm, move on.
To Quo fans, there's nothing new here to get our teeth into. It's an opportunistic release no doubt filling a contractual gap. The Albert Hall gig I'd have preferred on DVD personally. But then the TV cameras with a supporting production company weren't at that. Wacken is much more convenient. Like Montreux was.
Two more live albums to add to the nearly 40 released since 2008. With a relatively static set list over 10 years. Whatever any journalist says about it is academic. Certainly to me. But always nice to get praise.

I should emphasise that this isn't a criticism of the band in any way. It's a very successful formula and they are making a tidy living out of it I'm sure. It's just that there is nothing to get the juices flowing for the long serving Quo fan. The only thing that would do that I suppose is an album of new material (on the way we're told) and some changes to the set (likely to be a consequence of that new album). But as I have said on numerous occasions (well, once or twice ) I and others like me are not the market. The target audience. The demograph. And other modern expressions for courting mainly the compilation loving public. I'm included in that market. Of course I am. Every little £10.99 counts It's just I won't be missed if I keep my money in my pocket. I think the band sound great. But the band have always sounded great to me. Whether they agree with that or not.

So what do people on here think of the DVD or rather Quo's performance at Wacken, then? What's your verdict? I was there, they sounded great, working more as a band and not a group of individuals than they have in decades, crowd absolutely loved them. Next year should excite even a lot of jaded old guard with new material and "new old" material in the set list.

Well, the review did state that the performance was more exciting than Quo had been in the last few years with Rick, Francis' playing and stage presence especially so. I'll reserve judgement until I've heard/seen it for myself.
Uriah Heep's new record, "Living the Dream", is album of the month, by the way... rather unusual to have bands of that generation being chosen for the magazine's highlights!

I had a quick listen to that. It's OK. I'm not crazy on the vocals. They're very sort of early 80's. But it is good to see long standing acts get some credit for a change.

Just watching the dvd and it's excellent. Anyone who thinks the band lack power should watch it. Powerful and hard rocking. Leon's drumming is excellent throughout and Richie is fantastic. The 3 old boys are in top notch form too. Much better than I expected and while it has nothing new it ticks more boxes for me than a lot of Quo live dvds.

I had avoided getting it due to the setlist, until I heard a Rain and BOTE on a shuffle on the Amazon echo. So I bought it.
I have watched it today and enjoyed it, BOTE, Rain, Softer Ride and BBJ are all very good, but on other songs I thought the sound was a little too clean. As previously stated the band do seem to be enjoying themselves and interacting very well.
If only there was a few different songs on there.....

If only there was a few different songs on there..... A small thing like that (to me anyway) would make such a difference. But then I've been thinking that for about as long as I can remember. I actually watched the 'sample' on iTunes yesterday while I was flicking through others. They just give you the start - about 30 seconds of Caroline - but it does look and sound very good. It's certainly been cleaned up since Sky Arts broadcast it. Although that's maybe my old telly's kerrap speakers

This summer they played these few different songs, it made such a difference - the gigs were outstanding - and you didn't go. And to make it worse, this time, when it would've been worth it for a change, we didn't get a single live recording ..
