I think we all agree that 90% of the set list is almost set in stone now. Those of us who have seen them dozens, if not hundreds, of times. And are ever so slightly bored with it. Those who haven't seen them that often presumably don't even notice. There are people out there who undoubtedly still get excited when Down Down or Whatever You Want crank up. It's probably why they go in the first place! As a slight parallel, I went to see UFO a couple of years ago and I was pretty chuffed that they played Doctor Doctor. There will have been UFO diehards down the front who headed to the bar I haven't seen Quo this year and its likely now that I won't. Maybe I'll go ballistic during Rockin' when I do see eventually them again its the main reason ive not gone too any quo gig in yrs (except the ff gigs) is the setlist, dont get excited by the same old set ,last one was in nottingham with 10cc as supporting act who i enjoyed more than quo the place was pretty full until the interval before quo came on,then it was half empty people left i though for drinks ect but no thay didnt come back i was gutted it was rushed made to sit down by security staff aswell and the sound just audible left in the middle of rocking all over the world the worst quo gig ive been too

Quo will probably say that they've always been like that, that they've never changed the set much from the start - apart from the one time when they switched from psychedelia to rock. Only it does make a big difference when we go to Quo gigs these days. While we still had heard it only a handful of times in the 70s, so it still sounded fresh, we've heard it dozens if not 100s of times by now. And they might have introduced merely 2-3 new songs from a new album then same as they do now for the most part and then dropped them again. But at least they had a new album out every year, which meant 2-3 different songs during every new tour even if 90% stayed the same. I'm aware that they obviously experimented a bit more during the 90s, but I can't comment on that, as I didn't saw them again till 2002. The general pattern stayed the same for most of the band's existence though. Even the reunion tours followed that pattern. The set list was nearly the same to when they played together in the 70s with only two new songs introduced - ASS&W and BEL. It merely sounded fresh, because we hadn't heard it in decades. Even during the second part of the set, when they mainly played songs that have been in the current line-ups set till recently or are still in, it starts to sound stale to me and I can't help but compare .. To put it into perspective: what we're waiting, hoping (!) for seems to be a miracle no less. Some divine inspiration to become as daring, innovative and exciting as they've last been over 45 years ago. 45+ years .. says it all ..

But at least they had a new album out every year, which meant 2-3 different songs during every new tour even if 90% stayed the same. That's quite a pertinent point actually. A new album every year (or less) meant one or two new songs (very often only the one to be fair) coming and going (see what I did there?) in the set for every tour. Once the albums became less frequent, the new songs weren't there to put in and Quo have so rarely gone back the way to include previously unplayed material in the set. Always a shame I think. So here we are. The set for the reunion tours was fresh up to a point. But, like you say, it did include around 9 songs that were being played by the current band or had been performed within the last few years. Some will say it was WHO played them that mattered. Some of us would not

It's not a question of the set staying the same for me. If they continued to play the same set from 82/84 I would be a very happy bunny.
For me the excitement has declined at the same rate as the set evolved into what it is now, and the change in the audience.
It may well be the same people turning up, and we've all just got older and less inclined to 'get into it', but all I know is that I will enjoy myself more at a convention gig, watching tribute bands, and re-living 'the good old days' - which is what tends to happen more than watching Status Quo, which is a more sedate evening out.

I haven't seen a tribute band since Hilly and State of Quo a few years back. It was in The Towler near Bury. We made a special trip from Edinburgh and it was great fun. I don't even travel that far to see Quo now! Funnily enough, we do travel to see Rhino's Revenge. Its a more unpredictable night and even contains Quo songs that Quo will never play! I think it probably is an age thing, combined with familiarity. I still get a kick out of a Quo gig especially at the start and just beyond. But by the time In The Army Now cranks up and I know exactly what the next 5 songs are going to be, I get a bit restless No point in moaning about it. It is what it is and I either go or I don't. Plenty people still do, so the incentive for them to radically change anything isn't there. However, I still think there is a greater (and selfish) emphasis placed on a professional or flawless performance than there is in surprising some of the, eh, "punters". The second reunion tour set list proved that to me. The irony is, the only way they could have improved the 2013 tour would have been to completely change the set. I presume some would disagree.

This weekend, Status Quo are headlining one night at CarFest South. It is near enough that I could go there and back in a day and sleep in my own bed. Also, one of my employees will be there with her family and it would be great to join them. However, I simply cannot bring myself to spend the time and money to see the same old setlist. Mr Mortified, you really should go to a convention or two. You would have a great time and it would be good to see you as well.

Not that many, but enough that I was able to enjoy the gig - see my Rottweil report. And the band performance is really that, a tight band performing. If you give them a chance, you won't be disappointed .

I gave them a chance at Hammersmith last December. (I'm sure my report is here somewhere.)
I saw a band playing supremely well and a crowd having a fantastic time.
I was bored out of my mind.
I will always be a Status Quo fan, but I do not intend to see them live again.

I likewise don't intend seeing S. Quo again... the last time for me was at Liverpool the day before Ricks death. However I'm off to McV, Diamond and Minehead... as well as numerous other Quo tribute bands playing 1 nighters.

No more Francis Rossi's Quo for me, I'll just go and see John Coghlans Quo, when his band are in London next. I'm looking forward to the Minehead convention in September 2019 and having a drink & chat with like minded people, talking all things Quo. I'm impressed with what I've seen on you tube, of the Dutch tribute band Status Quotes, that are appearing at the convention.

I've never been to the McVention. Or Butlins at Minehead. 3 days of non-stop Quo would drive me nuts What ??? I love it. I did McVention a few years back and I really enjoyed it although on the second night, when yet another one of the bands launched into Paper Plane I did find myself wishing that they'd coordinate amongst themselves a bit more and not all play the same songs. PP is a cracker but six times in two evenings Minehead is a long old trek for me. If my wife was into Quo it would be far more likely to happen but in reality she can't stand Quo, (the aforementioned two nights of repetitive Quo she endured probably didn't help). I do tend to enjoy tribs though. JCQ isn't for me, the tempo is to slow for my ears but it's great that he's out there doing his thing and he seems to have a very solid fan base. As for Quo, I'd like to think I'll see them again. My passion for going to see them isn't the same as it was once, many reasons I'm sure, some absolutely nothing to do with the band. My sister saw them at Car Fest this weekend just gone and said they were very good. My nephew, who's only 10 saw them for the first time there and he thoroughly enjoyed them apparently. Quite some achievement to still be finding new fans some 50 years or so after they started. If there's a gig within 20 miles or so I'll definitely go, be it Quo or a trib.

I've not seen Quo live for a few years now, can't quite remember exactly what year it was. Bloody old age doesn't come by itself 😄 I'm slowly warming to the idea of watching the band again sometime just to see what Richie is like if I'm honest.
