We did toy with going. Even got as far as booking a hotel. But finances and a house move put paid to it. Glad it was a good one though.

I'm glad the people who went enjoyed what seems a good gig. For me, I enjoyed the DVD of the Milton Keynes Bowl gig 34 years to the day previous.

I was also toying with going but in the end decided not to.
Did Col & Tramper go?
Would be interested to hear their take on it.

Found this. Half decent quality as well. A couple of points here. Francis Rossi and Andy Bown make this band look like a bunch of old wrinklies. Its time FR bowed out and handed the band over to Rhino, so a new lead vocalist needs to be found. As for AB he should be banned from coming from behind his keyboard or given the boot. Maybe then, just maybe, that band might regain a bit of credibility.

You are right, How dare Andy Bown step from behind the keyboards a sing a song he wrote the majority of, for a band band he’s been in for 40 years. Disgusting🙂

Disgusting🙂 It doesn't matter, the band needs freshening up. Its like a joke watching them couple of pensioners trying to bounce about the place when it is clear to see the spring is out of their step. FR should retire and hand over and as stated AB should stay behind the keyboard out of sight. Rossi is now better suited to stuff like he done at St Lukes as a solo artist, all a bit softer. This business of him trying to stay a rocker is just silly now.

Trying to avoid the subject matter by drawing others into it and making comparisons doesn't wash. I was not comparing to anything, simply commenting on what I had watched on the video. The band needs freshening up.

The band needs freshening up. You did mention you don't like it because of wrinklies playing and the fact nobody played the keyboard so I was directly responding to that. You can't say the band needs freshening up and at the same time say you enjoyed the reunion as it were with a combined age higher than the current band. That's at least contradicting, I won't use other words ..

Whether the band (not for me) or the set list (yes for me) needs freshening up, the bottom line is people enjoyed themselves. Credibility doesn't come into it. Never did except for those who care about it. Credibility, such as it is, has rarely been offered to Quo by anyone other than their own fans. If they've lost it in the eyes of some, they have gained or maintained it in the eyes of others. As a man approaching the wrinkly stage himself, I am deeply offended by the suggestion that I should stay tucked away behind my instrument of choice. Which, incidentally, would be the tuba Oom pah pah….

That's at least contradicting, I won't use other words .. When I watch that video I know what I see and what my first thoughts are, a pair of old duffers!! I wasn't referring to nobody playing the keys at all, quite the opposite, he should be behind the keys where he belongs and largely out of sight, not prancing about in that embarrassing fashion. He is like FR swinging the leg back and forward in joke fashion. Don't know why you choose to keep making reference to the FF Reunions and trying to make comparisons, nearly 4.5 yrs have passed and even if Rick was still with us I don't think there are many who would still think FF is a viable proposition (other than for an occasional bit of nostalgia of course). If you ask me the Richie fella seems restrained and it is ironic that Rhino who endured much stick about not being suited to the bands image is now probably the best suited. The band should be handed over to him and freshened up with a new front man and AB should get back on his perch and stay there.

I was also toying with going but in the end decided not to. Did Col & Tramper go? Would be interested to hear their take on it. Col certainly said he was going. I haven't heard from him yet though. I most certainly went, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. No real surprises on the set-list, which is always my gripe. Same opener, a choice of two for the second song (SBYBIL this time). How good would it be if ROLD popped up after Caroline? And as soon as you get ITAN you know what the next song is, every single one.Now for the contentious bit, vocally they are far stronger than they have been for years, they are also tighter. Getting Andy away for the keys during WYW improves the sound of it considerably. Highlights were Hold You Back, Backwater, Softer Ride, Little Lady and the lack of Creepin' Up On You. So, good band, good gig, stale set. Roll on Kendal

So the highlights of the set are the tracks that are over 40 years old.

Let's compare the current set to the one from 34 years ago...
Caroline (Still in the set) Paper Plane Roll Over Lay Down (Still in the set) Backwater (Still in the set) / Just Take Me Little Lady (Still in the set) Don't Drive My Car Whatever You Want (Still in the set) Mystery Medley (Still in the set "Mystery Song, Railroad, Wild Side Of Life) Hold You Back (Still in the set) Rockin' All Over The World (Still in the set) Over The Edge Dirty Water Forty Five Hundred Times Big Fat Mama Don't Waste My Time Roadhouse Blues What You're Proposing (Still in the set *Part of medley*) Rain (Still in the set) Down Down (Still in the set) Bye Bye Johnny (Still in the set)
and that's a setlist of 21 songs, only one Medley
Current set is 18 songs long with 2 medleys, and only 4 post '86 tracks (Army, Bridges, The Oriental and Beginning Of The End)
Play times;- Army - 1654 times Bridges - 711 times Oriental - 1003 times BOTE - 665 times
A song released in 2002 has almost been played as many times as a song from 1986 and more times than a song released in '88, but it doesn't seem to be coming out of the set any time soon.
The set seriously needs changing, but that won't happen as it has to "flow", yet the current Proposin' Medley doesn't flow at all and hasn't since they started playing the current version, whenever that was

Guess that counts as still fresh .. And I completely agree about the Posin' Medley - in all its versions. If they think that flows, then everything should be possible .. Wasn't aware the Mystery medley was back in. I thought they'd play a full Mystery Song now and everything else had been dropped years ago - but then I thought Rain had finally been laid to rest as well and replaced with Don't Drive My Car ? (although that wouldn't make much of a difference for me as I can't stand that either and in all its guises) When you think about it, the band has always been the same. They already had that static set in the 70s. And back then they had a new album out every year, so actually more chances for change, but like today one or two new songs were introduced for one tour - then most of the time dropped again straight away. Even with the FF reunion - what did they do - use the Live album as template and merely add a handful of others, despite their great back catalogue. The most daring set they've ever come up with was actually the acoustic set, including new opener And It's Better now and new closer Burning Bridges ! Surely that's one of the reasons why it was so popular with many fans. We're starved for set changes (that deserve the name) ..

I think we all agree that 90% of the set list is almost set in stone now. Those of us who have seen them dozens, if not hundreds, of times. And are ever so slightly bored with it. Those who haven't seen them that often presumably don't even notice. There are people out there who undoubtedly still get excited when Down Down or Whatever You Want crank up. It's probably why they go in the first place! As a slight parallel, I went to see UFO a couple of years ago and I was pretty chuffed that they played Doctor Doctor. There will have been UFO diehards down the front who headed to the bar I haven't seen Quo this year and its likely now that I won't. Maybe I'll go ballistic during Rockin' when I do see eventually them again
