After getting a new deck for me birthday, I somehow decided to give Quid Pro Quo a spin.
I don't know why as it's album I've never listened to all the way through in one go.
To be fair I find it a bit samey (Quo songs samey???) and some lyrics are a bit twee and grating (Leave a Little Light On for instance).
It's not a bad album by any means but I found one song I really like, My Old Ways. Reminds me of about 14 other Quo songs, I thinks it's roots may be from I Should Have Known from the 1982 album and the echos are still in I Don't Want To Hurt You Anymore from (ISOTFC), which was almost a classic.
What a massive ear worm!!

Mr col, I'm with you on this one. When I first heard it, my immediate reaction was that it was this millennium's I Should Have Known - a song I like a lot and, for me, easily the best on the so-so album that spawned it. Just as a very slight criticism - let's call it an observation - My Old Ways has one of those moments where there is an irritating change of key (and tempo) in the middle to allow for the main guitar solo. They do that quite a lot and I have always found it an annoying distraction in an otherwise great track. As for I Don't Wanna Hurt You Anymore, yep, a classic for me. Although (there's always a but ) the original pre-release demo that was floating around was even better. Messrs Rossi and Young at their best. And a rare word of praise for the Rossi-Frost combination who gave us I Should Have Known. You can tell it's raining.

Mr mortified, the only thing that stops I Don't Want To Hurt You Anymore from being a classic, is the over use of the little drum trick, like the extra riff in Mean Girl is used twice and leaves you wanted more, it's repeated once too often and loses half a mark. I totally agree regarding the demo version, it was far better without the extra layer of keyboards. Regarding that "other" trick of the key change for a solo, totally, overused and often not required.

Sorry but can’t really see what you mean with My Old Ways but I completely understand you on I Don’t Wanna Hurt You. It’s a corker as far as I’m concerned 👍

I'm with craydarr on this one. It's ok-ish IMO but nothing special. I don't skip it like the aforementioned Leave A Little Light on, Reality Cheque or The Winner, but there are far better tunes on QPQ. I Don’t Wanna Hurt You is great - but then, most of the album is.

I just had to listen to My Old Ways on YouTube to remind myself what it sounds like! I get what you mean about reminding you of I Should Have Known. I'd also add in Gravy Train to the comparisons. It's that sledgehammer / piledriver rhythm that gives all those songs that feeling of relentless attack.
I love I Don't Wanna Hurt You - where can I hear this demo you mention?

Yeah, I hate the middle section of My Old Ways- it completely kills the momentum of the song

There was an mp3 pre-release copy of 5 of the tracks kicking about but I had mine on an old PC. I put them on CD at the time but no idea where that is now or if I even still have it. I might have a rummage. Ali and I took it to Sweden and used it in the hire car that summer. Played it endlessly on our travels to the gigs. All 5 tracks ( Beginning of the End, Pennsylvania Blues Tonight, I Don't Wanna Hurt You Anymore, Alright and Electric Arena) were all more or less the same as the final album versions but I Don't Wanna Hurt.... didn't have the keyboard/synth tinkering away behind the main riff. It was obviously added later, I think by Pip. The difference wasn't huge but quite noticeable when the album came out a few months later.

The song closes QPQ quite nicely but it's not one of its best tracks IMO. I do like the strange, almost ZZ Top-ish fadeout ending (think "La Grange").

Apparently 'La Grange' is going to be one of the bonus tracks on the Deluxe version of In The Army Now album getting released later this year...

Just checked the collector's page and, sure enough, deluxe editions of 4 albums coming out the same day as the new live albums. No track listing though. I'll see what I can find. Wish my mum still gave me pocket money

It's what it was called on the bootleg index, so I called it that in my draft tracklistings. According to Quoincidence it's not really La Grange. happens
