So here's the second covers album. Obviously it couldn't be avoided as the first one had been too successful.
I prefer it over DS, which isn't saying much, I know, but beside a few real duffers like Hound Dog, there are actually some covers I think are very good (When I'm Dead And Gone ..). Enough actually that I do listen to the album from time to time. From a timing perspective it wasn't quite as bad as DS either, as we had been waiting for that for years, while at the time of release of FITLC UTI was still relatively new and I mostly listened to this till HT arrived. The same went for Riffs then, but we aren't quite there yet.
The FITLC playback video though is the worst video they've ever done. Why one of, if not the best live band ever had to record a gig with playback is completely beyond me. I'll never watch that again !

Never really listened to the whole thing, but from what I've heard, it's incredibly sh*te...
Rock 'N' Me is a pretty bland / boring song already but some how Quo managed to make an even worse version of it

I now only play 3 tracks; the opener plus OTRR and WID&G which I love. The original was a semi-stomping mandolin driven 12 bar derivative which I still enjoy listening to and this cover does it more than justice. Sadly, however, the rest of this album is pretty dreadful imo, with Hound Dog a stand out stinker. When they "played" the album at Shepherd's Bush I overheard someone in the interval before the live set describe it as forgettable. Sadly, it's so bad that I can't. Next!!

None for me.
Been a long time since I listened to it but I recall enjoying it when it first came out. Even bought the video of the concert they did alongside it. I like some songs more than others and I would say 'Hound Dog' is perhaps a weaker track but I'd listen to it without skipping.
I'm the same with all the covers albums, good music played well, what's not to like? Granted it's never going to go down in Quo history alongside 'Hello' or 'Live' but I don't dislike any of them.

Only four fans have voiced their opinions so far and they're as different as can be. These differences in taste and perception are fascinating - and wonderful. This diversity is what has brought mankind as far as it has come. We should cherish it.

Surprised that I chose only to skip 3 songs - Memphis Tennessee, Good Golly Miss Molly and Hound Dog. I don't mind the album too much. I think the title track could have been great as one complete song. Missed a trick there and possibly a hit single. I prefer Quo's version of Dead and Gone to the original. Great time at the launch event. Dropped Beth from a great height when she was perched on my shoulders!

Fitl Century, Old Time RnR, Memphis, Dead n Gone and Chicago are the only ones for me. I haven’t heard a full version of FILC but I believe it was a B side, is it on YouTube or anything?

I like Old Time Rock 'n' Roll. Rave On. Roll Over Beethoven (but I do like Buddy and Chuck anyway).
I can listen to Way down, Sweet Home Chicago and Mony Mony if need be but I'd gladly skip the rest.
This isn't one of my favourites and I remember worrying when I heard Francis describe it as "a party album."
Thought that was ominous.

I never bought FITLC when it was released, was pretty put off by them doing another covers album after a really good original album in UTI. For me it was putting sales and publicity ahead of music, which depressed me a bit. I wanted them to go back to the attitude they had coming out of the Pye era, playing the music they wanted and not worrying about fashion or what was in vogue.
I got the Mony Mony single which I thought was reasonable and I quite liked Andy’s track, FITLC. Also purchased the 2nd single, Old Time Rock ‘N Roll, which I wasn’t particularly fanatical about, just an okay tune that didn’t really grab me, but on the other hand didn’t repel me either. Other than that all I knew from the album was Hound Dog after having the unfortunate experience of seeing them perform it on a TV show. It was appalling and I thought at that moment Quo had hit absolute rock bottom with that song, unfortunately they went on to prove me wrong at later points.
A few years later I got given the album as a present and found it to be as bad as expected, CD got filed on a shelf and has barely been listened to since, to such an extent that I don’t really know what is on it out with the tracks I’ve previously mentioned.
To me it was a pretty low point in the bands career, I never bought the VHS/DVD of the playback of the launch gig either. The only thing around that time I did like was the BBC documentary on the band, that was pretty good viewing.

I wonder if they had some kind of deal with Universal...
They left Universal (or whoever they were with at the time that got bought out by Universal) around the mid 90s or so and then joined Sanctuary Music (I think)... The only albums released under universal after that were the Covers albums released by Universal TV
Quo didn't want to do Riffs (or as it was first called Rockin' All Over The Riffs), and that's why the rerecorded a few of their older songs... Apparently they also rerecorded Down Down (From an interview around early 2003) but that wasn't released on the album

The thing about this album for me is not the songs but the production. UTI has been tarted up since, but it, this one, HT, Riffs and to an extent TPAOY (very slight improvement) have suffered massively from the Mike Paxman 'all the acoustics of a shoe box' production. He made Quo sound *tiny* and completely lacking in power. Very bad. Polite Quo.

I vaguely remember they were forced to record both FITLC and Riffs against their own wishes due to contractual obligations. Must've been mentioned in interviews and probably the bios too. Both Rick and Francis recalled that FITLC had Francis utterly depressed and close to giving up while Rick was more pragmatic about it. Think it was a time when it was really difficult for older acts to get a record deal at all and maybe that's why they had to do the company hopping as well.

I think after the "success" of Don't Stop, they thought they could bring in the same amount of success with a follow up covers album, which didn't work. Don't Stop - No.2 in Charts Position Famous In The Last Century - No.19 in Charts Position Riffs - No.44 in Charts Position I don't think Mike Paxman should have become Quo's producer... every album he produced sounds weak, and IMO they all need remixing.

Had to listen to David Walker explaining how we were getting free t-shirts because he listened when we complained about the ticket price!. Hmmm. The short live set afterwards was good, and DWMT reappeared in the set. and it turned out to be the curly blonde one's last gig with Quo. I didn't move far from the right hand side of the bar. Great view from there even if they did stop serving when the band were on stage! Very definitely a game of two halves that night.

I skip almost everything. I have (semi)regularly played 4 tracks; Old Time Rock And Roll, Way Down, When I'm Dead And Gone and Sweet Home Chicago. They didn't actually do outstanding versions of any of these songs tending to almost mimic the originals but they were all passable. Incidentally, Woodedz used to do a cracking live version of Sweet Home Chicago with Freddie superb on guitar. I also used to love the original McGuinness Flint single and I remember way back (1971 or thereabouts maybe?) my dad bought it. And he never bought music! :oo: He just wasn't interested. The title track, for me, is pretty awful and one of those that name drops people and/or songs from the past. Not my thing. As a passing comment, much like Get Back on the previous covers album, they absolutely murdered Once Bitten Twice Shy. Two classic songs that Quo should have been great at. Alas.... They also nicked ELO's version of Roll Over Beethoven right from the opening bars. We get it, Francis. You like Jeff Lynne This is the worst of the three covers albums for me, which puts it very far down the pecking order of Quo albums generally, pretty much by default. I wasn't at the gig but I can tell from the marvellous (if short) version of Forty Five Hundred Times how good the live set - and the crowd - was. Quo's worst covers album = one of Quo's worst ever albums.

Hi, Per from Sweden here. I'm new to this board but was a long time member to the old board (I even became a "4500 Timer" as far as I remember). I have never heard this album, not the other two cover albums either. As I understood the band didn't want to do these albums, therefore I decided that I never should buy them or listen to them either. It seems that I haven't missed so much, have I?

Hi Per, I do remember the name well from the old mb, welcome. I've never bought Don't Stop either, rarely ever listen to a handful of tunes from this one and never listen to Riffs - so a wise decision to stay away from the covers albums IMO.
